He got a slap, but he just couldn't help himself from springing on the opportunity of rekindling their love. Also, he was hesitant in his previous attempts because he didn't want to end up with a broken heart again. You saw fear gripping him in the first scene of this video where he was still sitting on the bed. He wanted to be sure. Brilliant show.
