    I think it's always important to have non-experts test sewing and knitting patterns. Experts can add insight but will often compensate for errors without realising. The novices are often the ones who get a bit unstuck with less than precise instructions and that's how the designer knows something needs to be reworded.

    Looks great. I'm 59 and have been seeing since my mum taught me when i was 4 years old. Treatment for cancer robbed me of all interest in knitting. I think this cardigan will be in my sights this spring

    THIS VIDEO HELPS SO MUCH! I test knit this pattern and was one of the ones that the cardigan grew due to the yarn that I chose regardless of my gauge being spot on. 100% WOOL IS YOUR FRIEND FOR THE MIDLAND! Don't make my mistake friends! Laura you're amazing!

    Finally! I‘ve been waiting for this pattern patiently 😊. I purchased it immediately as I am working on a balaclava hood without a pattern and I am working on garter stitch with short rows (creative mind!) I think I will love ❤ this new construction. Thank you 🙏
    Happy lunar new year 🧧 from Seoul 🎊
    P.S. also thanks for the release sale, I’m glad I didn’t miss it!

    Although I can't start one soon, I purchased the pattern to see how the interesting construction works. I love a challenge! The inventive creativity in garter stitch reminds me of the amazing Elizabeth Zimmermann and her designs, as well as those of her daughter, Meg Swansen. Congratulations!

    I’ve been patiently waiting for the Midland Cardigan! So VERY excited that you put it out to the world! Purchased right away! Am so excited to cast on! PSA: I was so excited I wasn’t thinking, and purchased the pattern through Laura’s website and not through Ravelry. Due to that, the pattern does not show up on my Ravelry library. Laura was so gracious, and will be transferring my purchase to my Ravelry library. She’s amazing! ❤

    Congrats on the new pattern release. I may or may not have been waiting in the early hours with a cup of tea for this episode & pattern release. I dye yarn to order, and one order I accidently picked up the wrong colour combo.... so not what the customer wanted, but I knew I wanted this colourway for myself, but haven't found a pattern to date that would be a perfect partner. Hoping I would get gauge.... and I did! Luckily my family were all still asleep and didn't hear my squeals of joy! I'm fairly experienced, however I hadn't actually knitted a garment with a double knit band until knitting the Hannah cardi for one of my granddaughters recently. It does take so much longer than a normal rib neckband, however, double knit bands elevate and put a beautiful polish to cardigans. I'm off to go cast on.

I've bought the pattern and my yarn, but I also have the pattern and yarn for my Midland Neck since the release, but still haven't got around to knit it, I should start it in the next weeks, I'm so excited! I'm working on a Cable Sweater, so maybe the neck will be great palette cleanse before getting in to this cardigan!

    Laura, it's beautiful. I purchased it before you talked about short tows. The fit is stunning. Have you used Brooklyn Tweed yarns? I'm trying to use stash this year. I have Arbor and tones shelter, and the fingering shelter that I could hold double, the bane slips my mind this moment. Can you suggest one of those if you have used any of those yarns? I've not used the yarns you are talking about. They have always come very highly recommended, as you have. I want to be a good Steward and not buy yarn unless I need extra yarn for a project, not a project altogether. Thanks so much.

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In afraid I havnt used any of those, but as long as they have a high wool content and you can meet gauge I’m sure one of them will be fine! If have a little swatch party and see which works best/you like the most! C

  • @jzswells
    @jzswells 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Wohoo, so looking forward to knitting this cardigan! If we used sock yarn, do you think the nylon might adequately balance out the superwash (in terms of growth)? Or would you still not suggest using superwash 75/25 sock yarn? Am thinking this cardigan would look so amazing in some variegated yarn with the garter, but the bright variegated yarn colors are often superwash!

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I wouldn’t recommend superwash sock yarn no. There are lots of dyers who use non superwash bases though so you should still be able to achieve that look! X

    Is there a full bust adjustment available? Didn't hear that in the video. Maybe I missed it? Seems like it would be helpful since it's a semi-cropped look and a full bust will pull the front up quite a bit otherwise.

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I did forget to mention it! There isn’t an official adjustment but I do talk about it in the pattern! You basically remove rows from the back panel so there is more fabric in the front x

  • @hstahlbrandt

    So inspirational!
    Do you recommend wool yarn for the Midland neck as well? It sits closer to your neck, so I think I’d like to avoid wooly wools if I can for that one!

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I used superwash merino and alpaca for my neck! It can handle the drapier yarns much better, I’d go for the ‘snuggle’ fit neck rather than the relaxed neck! X
