      that's one thing that I tend to shy away from is others doing the reviews or even the official D&D channel as I don't want to go into my reviews with any biased views. Usually after I've had it for a couple of weeks, then I'll start watching others takes on it. I take it wotc's intervew with the team lead was a good vid?

    Love this concept for DM's like myself that love randomization on your campaign. YOu can meticulously plan out VERY DETAIL of your world and campaign, but your players are BOUND to do something off the rails. This gives you the opportunity as you are reavelaing the cards, to create a generalloose outfit of the adventure, for the planning DM, but also ginves a sense of divination/randomness the a sporatic DM can tweak and implement at any time during the adventure. which can still give the players the sense of "THE CARDS WERE RIGHT".
    Absolutely love this concept, and so glad they really leaned into a concept like this. THis will be used for mayn years to come for sure.
    And especially with the new 66 Card Decks! cannot wait!
    Any tips for a content creator starting out in the D&D community??

    And there is the “favorite release of the year” line lol. Yeah I think what I love about this is that it has so many options to be applied in so many different ways. Like I could use it in every campaign I run forever. Plus the puzzles, traps, adventure building with the cards etc etc. This is likely to the the first purchase I make of the alt cover books.

    That’s why the book is so good more magic the gathering based content I long for the days when Hasbro appreciates the value of the dungeons and dragons team and allows them to make something worth while without needing to market magic or cut basically all player content and just make good books like when dungeons and dragons started. The solution to helping wizards of the coasts is hasbro changing board members entirely and prioritize making good products they want to buy for each individual hobby and not burning everything to the ground just for magic cards plain and simple.
    Also if you could perhaps maybe please make a video on Nord games books for 5e I feel some more press for that awesome company would do the hobby some good.

    Tell more about the mechanic for creating a campaign from the cards. And what was that about using Magic cards?

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm working on a video that covers that exact topic; in essence.. there was a card game back in the late 80's, early 90's called Once Upon a Time ( amzn.to/3tDm9LY ) that had a VERY similar mechanic where you used the cards to generate an adventure. The Book of Many Things goes into a lot more depth, but the overall mechanics are still the same. Look for my video on that to come out... I'm aiming for Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      indeed, yes, quite a few folks are realizing that. The mechanics are very basic, and it plays into using the deck as inspiration, but it's also very situational based which lends itself to being placed into almost any setting. Yes, there are monster stat blocks but that's easy enough to adjust.

    My favorite card in the original 5e DoMT was the Comet, which very simply demanded you take on the next monster or group of monsters that cross your path, alone. If you do, and succeed, you instantly levelled up. I really liked this idea because unlike most other cards that either outright gave or took there was a tradeoff that you had the option to buy into. This made it feel the MOST like a tarot card giving you insight into the future rather than just a reality warping effect instantly Thanos-Snapping into existence.
    Unfortunately, I don't know if I like this new flavortext that the card represents the apocalypse. We already have SOOOooo much of that in this game, and I definitely liked the idea of being more a direct challenge to you the wielder to deal with a probably personal conflict given the circumstances rather than some world-ending event that no regular character could conceivably take on alone. It kinda kills the idea that you should be able to fairly succeed since even a regular encounter would always be tough and risky going alone and now there's incentive to make it a demonstrably unfair one instead. Buuuuut I also haven't read the chapter, so I'd want to know more before making any leaps in logic.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      keep in mind that the cards, when drawn, still do exactly as they always have, nothing in that aspect has changed. What this book does is provides information on influences that the deck has had across various things, from monsters to items, even the lands themselves. It also provides alternative ways to _use_ the deck, but the deck and it's cards still function the exact way that it always has.

    • @supersmily5811
      @supersmily5811 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had no interest in this book... but actually now I do. I was looking forward to Planescape, and now I have it, and it all felt very hum drum to me. But this, this looks very interesting! A thieves guild of werewolves? A market on the back of a moondragon where you can get your fortune told? These seem like very interesting hooks that are easy to get the party involved in with any campaign.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ooooh... it harkens back to a 4th edition adventure. The one in this book is good and has plenty of detail, but if you can find the 4th edition one, there is a fair amount of additional background and story that you can lift and place into this one to really flesh it out.

      My understanding is that 80% of the book would be ready to use in Pathfinder. The lore, the DM facing ideas, adventure design, the deck itself easy. Monster stat blocks would need some redesign if you want to keep the power levels comparable. The couple of feats and backgrounds you could ignore or redesign to work in pathfinder. Some of the magic items you might need to tinker with but I would think it is the easiest dnd book to use in pathfinder. Its roots are firmly in AD&D after all the whole book is about reskinning a much loved old school magic item for modern roleplaying.

    It really just feels like it's just a collection of minor stuff that was covered better in other books. A little this, a little that, nothing very useful of any of it. Like the phrase "A jake of all trades, a master of none."

    • @Garlly34
      @Garlly34 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The full saying is “jack of all trades, master of none, but always better than a master of one”. This book seems like a fun toy box for me as a DM, and I’d rather get bits and pieces of different all in one book than buying multiple books all oriented to a single thing.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@gamemasters traps, puzzles, uses for the cards, none of this is new. It might be new for 6e but not new for the game. And the content seems to be fully just a very basic version of all of these, sprinkled in with a bunch of new subclasses and feats to get players interested. While books dedicated to each individual topic would cover it much better. I won't argue over the obvious lore changes or additions because they is just simply additional content if you desire to use it. Otherwise it feels like a primer of work done in better detail by others previously.

      @Doodle1776 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Garlly34 except a single book will give you a lot more value for what you need or want than a book that tries to do everything all at once. That addition that you added to the phrase also isn't in the original one either but added in in modern times to make the phrase sound nicer than it was intended to be or to appease those who want to pretend that being skilled in nothing is better than those who work on being skilled in a specific area; which is far from accurate. As the purpose of the phrase is to point out that someone trying to be everything at once ultimately fails at being good at any of it. I can 100% say with certainty that you could find books on each topic done in a lot more and better detail and pay less or just as much for all of those than for this one book. It's far better to be good at one thing than to half-ass a dozen things. Other phrases that went along with the "Jack of all Trades" one: Jack of all Trades is of no Trade, A Man of Many Trades begs his Bread on Sundays, A Jack of all trades and good at none . The one you quoted apparently doesn't show up un writing until 2007.

      @@Doodle1776 except there are no lore changes to the deck in this book... it even states that the version used in AD&D still exists, that the version in 2e, 3e, 4e, and what we initially saw in 5e still exist (there are, after all, multiple version of the deck of many things) and the one we get in this book is unique unto itself.
      If by this is a primer of work done previously you mean the deck in general, then sure, but at that point, just ignore all of 5e, 4e, 3e, 2e, and ad&d and just jump back to playing the core d&d. I mean, because all of that stuff was just a basic rehash of what came before.. yes?
