I used to collect bird nest also, ( just empties and wind falls ) I had a friend in the Audubon society and id give them to her and her club would meet and inspect them , I love all the different kinds and materials they find to use . this was another fun one with lots of great geology information ! happy holidays see ya on the Next One !

If I snort some of the hot water with an ameba in it what are the odds it eats my brain. 1 in 1, 1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in million? Do we know how common this is I've heard of this happen rarely in the news, like some swimmer gets a brain eating ameba but its rare. But if the spring is full of them the odds may be a lot higher. Makes me not want to go in them if the chances are high. 27:10

In the early to mid ‘70s we used to put our boat in at Cottonwood Cove and boat up to where the creek from the canyon flowed into the Colorado River. It was a great place to beach the boat and spend the night. In those days there was only a rickety old wooden ladder to getup over the cliff on the way to the hot springs pools. It truly is one of the best skinny dipping spots in the country. Unless there is a lot of people there. Like a troop of Boy Scouts invading the area. (I’m not joking). It’s named after the Ring Bolt Rapids which is just downstream from where the creek flows into the Colorado River. Before Hoover Dam was put in it was a real shallow shoal there that the flat bottom paddle wheel boats had to cross. So they installed ring bolts so that the boats could hook a wire rope and winch themselves across the shallow spots.

When you find those basalt rings or balls it means quartz mineralization is present close by.

The only thing, about the garbage, I was taught that if you want to do good deeds, do it without anyone looking, otherwise you are not doing it for a good deed, you are doing it for attention, plus we don’t need an education in cleaning trash, and you won’t stop it from being done.
I love your channel and approach to hiking, rock hounding and just the great outdoors.👍

Such a beautiful place. Thank you for taking us.. I’d be stumbling around always looking at the rocks not the trail 🤷🏻‍♂️. We are always picking up trash when we hike. To many people just don’t care

Great hike report & video, Elley. Loved the narration of the geology on the hike down. Yeah, that top pool is almost too hot to sit in. The canoe or kayak trip down from the dam is also well worth it and an excellent way to get there. You've got to hire a guide company for that trip, but totally worth it. Was there once when people brought candles, and we sat in the hot water with candles lighting the area around. Magical. Also appreciated the admonition about packing out your trash.

@@ElleyKnowsRocks Utah has a couple of areas with hot springs. Also, have you ever been to Devil's Slide? It is a really cool rock formation. The area around the slide has awesome features as well. Utah has fossils and several mines, I did security on the Park City silver mine while they built a museum and adventure down in the mine. They no longer mine for silver but can restart if it becomes feasible. I have collected rocks since I was young and now and then I'll find something interesting. Rocks, crystals and petrified wood. Dad had this bag of iron pyrite in the closet, still there when he died at 86 years old. When we were moving my husband picked up a box and commented "this is heavy, what do you have in it rocks!" I had no choice but to say yes I do. He didn't believe me at first, but the joke was on him.😂😂 not sure if you will get this so posting a copy to a new video.
