      Thank you, that for us is the "secret sauce" for gardening. Knowing a little about a plant's origins, helps to understand what its requirements are likely to be. Then if we are able to replicate (or even go some way towards) creating those conditions, the chances of them thriving and is obviously increases tremendously. Thank you for your kind comment.

    🌸 Beautiful! 🌸Such happy little plants. I love the fragrance of dianthus. Thank you for another educational and inspiring video. I will remember “pinking shears” when it comes time to deadhead. Bold = more blooms! 😉

      Thank you. There's nothing quite like discovering the wafting fragrance of garden pinks!
      To be "down wind" from drifts, concentrated groupings or lines of edging is a special experience that alas, too few people get to enjoy! And now that these are continual bloomers, keep flowering right through the growing seasons - its even better.

    So it’s been over a year since their introduction.
    What has your experience been with these?
    Are the subsequent blooms less floriferous?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Our experience with them continues to be impressive, but like with many other perennials (especially Meadow Sages) the first bouts of flowering will always be strongest, with weaker repeat flushes.
      Thank you for bringing up an important point. Our testing and trialing is on going, and we are continually reviewing the plants that we offer through our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/.
      As you may have noticed in some of David's videos we offer over 2,000 selections, and all of these are continually under review! If we discover a flaw or a better alternative, then the selection is modified and this is happening all the time.
      There are of course many different selections of garden pinks on the market, and more new ones are being developed all the time. So we are refining and adjusting as the information and experience unfolds.
      All that said, we find that the cultural conditions and cultural practices greatly affect the performance and if you haven't come across them yet, we would suggest that you take a little time to catch some of David's other videos here on this channel where he offers extra guidance, tips and suggestions. In particular, take a look at this one entitled " David's Expert Timely Tips // Get The BEST Results With Garden Pinks (Dianthus)" ':th-cam.com/video/SSBx_JIwtdg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B2J3OiinaKI1AzoR. In this one he mentions how plenty of sun, really good drainage, a higher pH, and trimming after flowering are so important.
      There's other helpful videos too, and more coming.... so if you haven't yet subscribed to our channel, you might like to think about it. Because, once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), they will turn up automatically in your feed.
      And, as you find our videos helpful, it would be great if you could kindly share the links with your friends and click the "like" button too, because that will help other people find the information as well.
      Then during the main planting season (spring through late Fall) our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ which are located all over our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, will have all sorts of beautiful, tried and true and cutting edge, top performing selections, including lots of wonderful Dianthus, so be sure to stop in regularly.

    I have 3 large clusters of Firewitch Dianthus. After blooming, and deadheading, how do I trim, or round up the clusters so they continue to thrive? Zone 6b Kingston, Ontario 🇨🇦

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its good to trim off the old flower heads with a sharp pair of shears, that tidies them and sets them up to make a nice ground covering carpet.
      We suggest you check your pH and perhaps give them a light dressing of a slow release fertilizer next spring too.
      Here's a link to another of David's videos that will take you through his recommendations: th-cam.com/video/SSBx_JIwtdg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4TDDa815pvyT7ata in this video he is working on a clump forming selection, but the process for Firewitch is similar except it doesn't rebloom as well as the one David is working on.
      We hope this helps you enjoy your Garden Pinks better.
