Thank you for sharing this. I'm reminded of the prayer of serenity - God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Hello and thank you for sharing…I don’t believe you should feel bad about sleeping a lot over the weekend sometimes we need to rest and recover not just physically but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually…..
I used to stay at home when I took my vacations from work. As I got older, I realized I should use my time off to get away and discover new places. I kind of do that every weekend when I hike. It's good to get away from the same thing every day and enjoy life.
It’s good to be content, grateful, and find happiness in your current situation. Be kind to yourself. Aspire for better, but not at the expense of happiness. Focus on whatever is good and healthy for you.
There is a lot of wisdom in what Buddha says there. We only live once so we must make the best of it. One should be content but ALSO strive for more. What you picture in your mind can be achieved but it will take time.
Hey, its not to anything over the weekend. One of the very best things on the weekend is to do nothing. Its the most relaxing thing to do. Never feel bad about this. Feel good about this. Many people are "obsessed" with dking something. Why? Because everyone else is... Some would say if you need to go to the mall or bar or something that is a waste of time. Be happy to have solitude, its a rare qaulity to even be able to do this. Like a quote i read "dont feel bad about being different in a society that is sick". What you call, doing nothing, is actually probably very healthy. You are meditating in a way, seeking tranquility, in a worl that is crazy. You seem like a good person. Do not feel guilty about dking what many wise people do. Your great 👍.
I play and release music, which brings fulfillment but also anxiety. Trying to be content and also ambitious is a difficult balance to maintain. I find that it is okay to relax and enjoy peace on my weekend. You have a very serene presence that I find very comforting, so thank you. “Become what you are.” Alan Watts

Hello Shika. I am missing your videos. Hope you are well. I hope you can post soon about something of interest to you- Teaching Japanese, interesting foods, thoughts on life, work, Japan, anything... Be well🙏
I get how you feel about the weekend and when people ask what your up to. It can make you feel a bit down when your not doing anything special and it can seem like everyone else is. Don't feel guilty about having a sleep in, its what the weekend is for afterall 😄. Everyone has to be a little selfish in life in order to achieve there goals, it's not necessarily a bad thing. Your last two english speaking video's have really resonated with me. Thank you ⭐
your english is great, i never do anything on weekends either. and dont be too hard on yourself we dont have to be productive all of the time. tell people who ask what you do on the weekends the truth tell then that you rest and take time to chill. we dont have to impress anybody. youre awesome and youre beautiful too.
It's an interesting discourse you bring up. Contentment doesn't mean complacency, contentment is being free from desire, but being free from desire doesn't mean you don't do any work. To work you have the right, but not to the fruits thereof, that is my understanding of contentment
Shika is my spirit animal. 😁 there’s a nuance between “content” and “complacent” content is appreciating what you have in the moment or in the present but we should never be complacent in that things will always be the same. I hope that makes sense. Nothing about wanting to improve or grow is selfish.
Your English felt more fluid. Nice! The best method to learn is to follow your heart and have fun! Laughing at mistakes is an important part of that! Try to use 'a' or 'an' instead of 'one' better. You use 'one' when describing a quantity of something. Keep improving!
I think you can be content/happy with what you have at the moment while trying to improve your life. For example, I don't have the life that I want so I am trying to change it but I also try to find happiness in what I have now.
Thinking is an activity. It is not doing nothing. You are a thinker.. and the world needs as many thinkers as it can get! Ambition is a motivator. This is good. I never had any ambitions except to do the best drawing I could on the paper in front of me.
You have a talent for languages because your English is very good already. So, since you have a desire AND talent it's pretty plain you are on the right path. I think your project here online is interesting, I've run across other people online talking about their life the way you do but there is something quite touching and vulnerable about your presence. A kind of disarming honesty. Hard to describe but there is something special about your presence. I could see you becoming a psychotherapist of some kind. Your presence is very calming and people who are hurting would respond positively to you. Maybe an art therapist? Are you artistic?
In England we deal with deep thoughts like this with humour.. "Life is what happens while you are making other plans." "Wherever you go...There you are!."
Ok here is my take on what you said. First thing if you want to chill, rest or recharge your battery over the weekend then please do so. Maybe you need that because your job is exhausting or worst case you're burned out. And please don't let anyone tell you that you need to do in your free time or private life. The second thing that you should ask yourself is, what do want your life to look like in the next 5-10 years? If you have anything you want or you want to achieve then at least try to get it. Make a small plan if you have to and go for it. If you reflected enough on your life and you think you don't need anything, then everything is fine the way it is. You don't need to do sth you don't want to do. Except maybe marrying a good guy and having kids if you don't already have those. 😉
To answer your question of "which is better? To be content or strive for your goals?" Well that depends on what you want. Sounds like to me that you already know what you want(to pursue your goals) as you stated earlier in your video. However, they'll come a time where maybe you don't have something to pursue and that's fine too(this is where being content comes in) Life is always changing and there will be times in your life when you'll need to decide what areas do you want to pursue your dreams and goals and what areas should you be content in. However, those are decisions you have to decide for yourself. Neither one of the choices is "better" overall. It's really a matter of what's better for you in your current season of life.
Good evening to you Shika ! 😊 Happy Sunday 🌸 Hope you are well ! Well for me I’m going to start with thinking I’m a good cook 🙈 speak and think it into existence ✨🍳🔥🧯
Shika, the phrase of being content with what you have doesn't mean you cannot strive for better. It just means be happy with what you have. Don't let what you have be a negative aspect in your life to where it brings you down. We as humans will always want better, and we will always continue to work hard until we reach our goals. It is better to take a major goal and break into up into smaller more attainable goals. Each one bringing you closer to the ultimate goal. Self-sabotage is a very bad habit. We are our own worst enemies, but you can control the way you feel and react to everything in your life. Definitely be more positive about yourself. You already have a great mind and a will to use it in positive ways. That is why so many believe you to be a very good person. You don't have to try, you just are a good person. Have a wonderful and blessed day. ❤
One reason to be content with what we have, is because at the end of the day, everything on this earth will pass away. Material things, human accomplishments, it will all pass once we breathe our last, or the world itself comes to it's end. (And everyone living in that day, their lives will come to an end) All people agree no matter their beliefs, that this life is temporary. What's most important, as I believe, is for us to fear God and keep His commandments. And this is what He commands of us, that we love Him, and we love each other. Of course, this is what I believe.😎
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
I think it's about being yourself, Shika. The world needs both dreamers who move the world forward and people who simply enjoy daily life. Only your own feelings will tell you which path is best for you. You have your family, friends and your online community here that you created who will support you whichever path you choose. And you're so young, it's ok to try each path for a period of time.🙂
I feel like you would enjoy reading The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It is only over 200 pages and could be another way for you to learn English too! What you said reminded me of a quote from the book. It is still something that I try to keep in mind daily. 「What you refer to as your “life” should more accurately be called your “life situation.” It is psychological time: past and future. Certain things in the past didn’t go the way you wanted them to go. You are still resisting what happened in the past, and now you are resisting what is. Hope is what keeps you going, but hope keeps you focused on the future, and this continued focus perpetuates your denial of the Now and therefore your unhappiness.」
I think I'm more than satisfied with what I have. I don't have much, and don't really want anything. I think it is because I was raised with enough, but was never spoiled. On the other hand, I am always dissatisfied with myself. There's always some stupid mistake I feel like I need to fix, but can't. Or some ability I don't have, but want. I think Shika is the same... and I don't have the answers. But I empathize completely.
For me it’s about balance. I have several goals I am always working towards to make life better but I also want to live in the moment and appreciate what I have and where I am at now. Great video as always.
I agree that it's important to not close ourselves off to the possibilities, but it's also important to prepare ourselves to be ready for when the time comes to embrace them, otherwise we might be unable to overcome what holds us back and let the chance slip by. For me this often applies to relationships. I want to be in one, but I still seem to avoid any chance I get. Concerning the acceptance of what we have, I feel like it's always ok to be happy with what you have and still look towards the horizon to see what else you can find. To live means to grow and change. Staying the same means to be stagnant and the onset of gradual decline.
How you spent the weekend sounds precisely like how I spent mine. And I often wonder if I should act more ambitiously, or try to be more content with what I have. I usually come to the conclusion that both are necessary for a well balanced life. Keep your dreams in mind, but never lose sight of the good fortune you have all around you.
It seems to me that you are practicing your English , making videos for us to watch and exploring the philosophy of others , so I would argue that you are doing much with your weekend . Perhaps life is metaphorically like the sea which fishes swim in but are unaware of its presence . Best wishes from England .🙂
The nice thing is we are all different and we all want to achieve something in life, I suppose that's what makes the human race interesting. I wanted to be a musician when I was very young and that was my career for a long time. What ever you do in Life Shika, do it well and if you can say you did your best then you will be content. My favorite - Vaughan Williams 'The lark ascending' it's a beautiful piece.
Contentment is an important topic and your monolog reminded me of a passage from a poem and because you seem genuinely interested in different perspectives on life i would like to share that passage in which the following is stated: Your provision will not be decreased due to life‘s delays And it cannot be increased due to your haste No sadness lasts forever, nor any happiness And you shall not remain in poverty, or any luxury If in your heart, you possess contentment Then you and those who possess the world are equal I think this is a beautiful reminder so that we do not despair in difficult times but I do not think that contentment means to just sit around and not trying to improve one‘s life. Contentment and ambition do not contradict eachother. You can be content with what you have so that you do not find yourself constantly in a mood of despair but you can also at the same time set new goals to improve your life. Improving your life leads to a position of strength and a position of strength can improve your contentment.
It's good to be content with what you have, but keep trying on continous self improvement. Goals are great to have, but they must be achieved by small incremental steps and not achieved all at one time. Nothing can be done without taking action. So, for example, if more money is desired, make a plan to find a new job that pays more. Start by learning the skills needed for that dream job, start networking with people in that industry and keep moving forward by making an effort. Even if that dream changes, you will have new skills and friends to help you improve. It's really not easy in this life, but it must be done like that.
Shikasan, being content is not a bad thing. Most people, i think, would like their lives to be that way. But, will you be satisfied with that? Wanting to grow is/should be a goal if you want to advance in life. Thinking you'll fail is failure in itself. You recognize this about yourself, and you are wanting to change is good. Life is difficult as is without further complicateing it with our doubts. We're similar in some ways. I was more of a people pleasure in the past. Now, I'm more self-centered. Chillin-out over the weekend is a 'OK ' thing, so don't feel embarrassed about it.
Hey Shika, just some food for thought. You asked the question of whether it's OK to be content with what you have or whether you should sacrifice it to move forward and pursue happiness and I my question back to you is: why do you have to choose? Why is it that you are either content with what you have, or you're unhappy? Being content with what you have is the best time to improve, because you don't need to focus on the aspects of your life you're unhappy with. You can choose to improve on what you want. So if you want improvement in some area of your life, make the change because being content is... Something that only happens for the immediate future. You might move for work and not see your family as much. Your best friend might have children and you can't see them as much. You're right, if you're content with life, you have don't have a need to improve. You don't need to learn English, or pursue a dream because... You're relatively happy with what you have. But that's exactly why you should. hope you're have a great week :)
Hi Shika! I’m sorry you are feeling this way. I am very negative about myself and tell myself negative things a lot so I understand how you are feeling. It is important to re-train our brains to tell the negative comments to stop and use positive comments instead. It is hard for me. Also, I slept most of the weekend too! lol there is no shame in that. 😊
I think you can be emotionally contented while still striving for something, so you don’t have to choose. No one really stays in the same place for long. Sooner or later something happens, and we are forced to change. So, why not move of your own accord? Besides, having more money means you can spend more money. That should be good for everyone, without thinking too much into it.
Pursuing your dreams is never a bad thing, you don't have to feel bad for not being content and wanting more, that's a good thing, healthy ambition makes us better. Being fluent in English will open more doors for you and knowledge is never a bad thing. I've never noticed the Piano until today, do you play it? Can you play us something? 😊 Hugs from Germany. 頑張る!
There is an old cartoon from the US. Pinky always asks The Brain 'So what are we going to do today Brain?' Brain always answers 'What we do everyday. Try to take over The World' That has been my answer when anybody asks what I am going to do. 'What I do everyday. Try to take over The World'. They don't ask again. Life is never going to go the way you want it. So each moment try and do what makes you smile. Stop doing things for others. Less looking to the future and enjoy the moment. You can still improve yourself and work on things. But enjoy today. One day you will be old and wonder why you worried so much when you were young.
Hello Shika. I can't see you as negative person, but i think you are stressing about finding your place in the world (job, etc). Just like you, I am one who likes to think and it gives you good tools to find happiness :) Pursuing life goals is marathon and we can't maximize our efficience every moment. Remember to enjoy small things what world, nature and other people offers you. It makes it easier to keep working slowly towards life we want to live.
Great job Shika chan!! I think your speaking is speeding up a bit!! I think the passage you mentioned has some very wise words to believe in for sure. It is important to be kind to yourself, and to set realistic goals. I hope that you can find a path to sustainable happiness and fulfillment!! Thank you for making and sharing your videos with us! Best wishes from Texas!🙏
"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:6-10) Nothing wrong with good pursuits, but we must be careful not to fall into the trap of materialism, greed, and a lust for riches.
I relate a lot to alternating between being content and thinking I should do more. I have lots of hopes and dreams and ways of life I've romanticized in my head, but feel to scared to go after it. So when life is feeling easy, I wish I was doing more, but when things get hard, I feel comfortable and content. It's annoying, and I feel like I should challenge myself more.
Lao Tzu also said: “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” I don't think he meant to be content in stagnation.
Hi. Regarding your question: "Should I accept things as they are and keep living the way I do now, or should I strive toward achieving my goals and ambitions?" Honestly, "It depends…" I've asked myself similar questions many times and have my own answer. But helping someone else find their answer is very challenging because I don’t know much about you or your background. Still, I’ll try to shed some light on this. If you can’t give a clear answer to this question, it might mean you don’t fully understand what the effort you'll put in in the second case will be worth. At the same time, you might not know whether you’d regret not making the effort if you choose the first option. So, first and foremost, you need to understand that the answer depends on who you are as a person. What does that mean? It means that you first need to understand yourself. Our mindset is shaped by our values and worldview. In other words, you need to know what your values are, how they were formed, and why they are strong. The same applies to your worldview-why do you see the world around you in a certain way and not another? These are not easy questions, but they’re worth answering. They hold the key to answering your main question. The better you understand yourself, the easier it becomes to make decisions. However, I get the feeling your question hides something deeper. It’s as if you’re asking, “In which case will I live a happier life? By going with the flow or by making an effort to achieve something?” Ultimately, the end will be the same for all of us, so it’s not that important. What matters is this: what does happiness mean to you? For me, happiness is a feeling of agreement with myself, feeling fulfilled rather than empty. When I’m tired, it’s not an emptying. When I try to fill each hour as if I were writing my biography, when I strive to live a meaningful life.
Hi shika-san, I'd say the best way to live life would be a combination of contentment and ambition. We only have one life on this planet and there's no 100% guaranteed that there will be an afterlife, so we must make the best of our days by achieving our precious goals that help develop us, help people in need, or simply makes us happy; that's why I don't find you selfish. Yet, no one knows when an event changes our lives forever, or when death comes. Not all of ours goals will be achieved, and that's why it's important to still live in the present as much as we can. To be content with what we achieved, what we have become, and what we already had. Because that tells us we already lived a good life. Though I must say that one of my dreams is to achieve all of my ambitions so that I can live fully in the moment. Ambitions are great, but I always felt like they were breathing on my neck everyday. I would really enjoy a life where there is nothing personal to worry about anymore. Have a great day. じゃあね。
'Should' is probably the operative word in your question 'should we be content..?' Most people find it difficult or impossible not to want more. I found this theme today echoed in the wonderful film based in your city called 'Perfect Days'. I imagine you have seen it.
When you start hating yourself - do something creative to use your mind productively. Try it. Also get out and experience nature: walk in the woods, walk on the beach, or visit a zoo or aquarium. That always make me feel better.
Dear Shika, In my opinon you're a great, nice and beautiful person. I don't see a negative person. There's nothing wrong with chasing your goals and improving your live. You're doing great. Relaxing in a weekend is fine. You have the right to do so. Being selfish sometimes is not a bad thing, on the contrary sometimes you have to be selfish to protect yourself. I self had to be more selfish in my life. I didn't and some people, very close to me, made use of this in a for me very negative way and it cost me dearly. You're a fantastic young woman, live your live, chase your goals and do the things you want to do. If you can look every day at yourself in the mirror knowing you did what you have to do, than there is nothing wrong you. another example from myself, when I was at the NATO-missions in Bosnia and Kosovo, I took some decisions that haunted me for long times. Till an psychologist took the events through with me and I came to the conclusion that I took the right decisions and I had no other option to take another decision. I thought at that time, like you, that I was to selfish etc. Go girl, you're really a great person who inspires many people. I wish you all the best and greetings from the Netherlands.
We only live once and for a limited time so having achievable ambitions is absolutely OK and not selfish! :D
Thank you for sharing this. I'm reminded of the prayer of serenity - God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Great video. I love learning wisdom.
Please keep making videos.
Stay fine and strong ❤
Thanks for your videos ❤

Shika - May be you will like this, Claude Debussy 'Claire de Lune' for piano. It's good for the soul, I think you will like it, best wishes😔
I think a lot of people share the same feelings as yours and I think it is really great that you are open to sharing your thoughts here
I think it's about being yourself, Shika. The world needs both dreamers who move the world forward and people who simply enjoy daily life. Only your own feelings will tell you which path is best for you. You have your family, friends and your online community here that you created who will support you whichever path you choose. And you're so young, it's ok to try each path for a period of time.🙂
It's been a while, I hope all is well!

Shika 꿈이 있다는건 마음속에 보물을 가진거야 그 보물을 가꾸고 다듬어바 Shika 인생이잖아
I hope you make more videos again.
It seems to me that you are practicing your English , making videos for us to watch and exploring the philosophy of others , so I would argue that you are doing much with your weekend . Perhaps life is metaphorically like the sea which fishes swim in but are unaware of its presence . Best wishes from England .🙂
Manifest positivity, Shika-san. You're a mountain person, climb, climb! 😁🤙
👍 Shika 👌Have a good day 💛
Contentment is an important topic and your monolog reminded me of a passage from a poem and because you seem genuinely interested in different perspectives on life i would like to share that passage in which the following is stated:
Your provision will not be decreased due to life‘s delays
And it cannot be increased due to your haste
No sadness lasts forever, nor any happiness
And you shall not remain in poverty, or any luxury
If in your heart, you possess contentment
Then you and those who possess the world are equal
I think this is a beautiful reminder so that we do not despair in difficult times but I do not think that contentment means to just sit around and not trying to improve one‘s life.
What you seek is already yours. I read the video description. Apart from the video title. All of us have been seeking the same thing
You are fine
しかちゃんの英語は上手です!❤
Your English gets better and better! 😊🎉🌟💐🌻
Your charisma will attract opportunities. I have never been so certain of anything.
Good Luck to you Shika!😎
Raw 💖🇵🇭
形容詞のcontentの使い方をはじめて知りました!
Please add some "shorts"....on the streets of Japan, everyday life there.
On the weekends, I watch TH-cam videos, walk in the woods, and edit my novels.
Hugs from Germany. 頑張る!
You have a very relateable demeanor Shika
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
(1 Timothy 6:6-10)
Nothing wrong with good pursuits, but we must be careful not to fall into the trap of materialism, greed, and a lust for riches.
じゃあね。
I think you can choose to be content, just as you can choose to be happy, and if you choose to be content, you will be happy.
I wouldn't say you are doing "nothing" over the weekend. You are resting your body to be ready for the next week. Resting is important.
Shika has mastered English and abandoned us 😩 …in seriousness I hope you are well. 大丈夫?
