On a Peach Parts Mercedes’ forum, a fella used a metal pan head screw with success. So the part hardness may not be the issue,

Also I have heard that the strikers you can buy are not good quality and often fail after a short time.
However there is a guy in Thailand who makes a replacement in rubber, not plastic. Maybe that would be better.

Meyle parts are acceptable but Uro parts are generally considered not good quality.

Anyway you will have to use one of these because Mercedes has never produced that part.
