Was my dream car when I was learning to drive. Eventually got one a few years later and had 2.5 years of joy and fun with it without any real issues

Im not a vauxhall fan at all. But a few months after passing my test my cousin gave me the keys to his VXR and it was thw first quick car i’d drove and first car id do 100mph in. So very fond memories indeed.

Very underrated cars, I had a stage 3 Arden blue VXR back in the day, went well and with a few choice chassis (rear antiroll bar transforms them) mods it actually went around corners well too. It did feel special when driving. Shame the newer Astras didn't look as nice.
Had mine since 2014, running around 400hp something about them I just can’t explain, it makes you feel satisfied driving it. Possibly the last & best of Vauxhall with that Z20 engine 🤍

I have had mine since brand new and until recently, it was sitting in my garage for 3 years. Full respray, new chequered stickers and all new carbon bits. I absolutely love the car and could never bring myself to sell her.
Ive heard a lot of horror stories about these cars... personally Ive owned my racing edition since new for 12 years and in that time only a battery (old age), rear 02 sensor and 6 gear bearing failed. The gearbox was quickly and cheaply fixed by WG motorworks. She is a daily but I do pamper her and garaged so no rust and still on the original exhaust. The most reliable car ive ever owned.

Owned mine for 10 years (non burg edition). Good cars with some choice mods to improve understeer and traction
I put Michelin PS4’s on mine and it handles like it’s on rails 💪 all cars under steer it’s how you go into the corner
Mistake me if im wromg but is it ALL 2.0 vauxhalls that have trouble with pistons
@@stuartanderson89 rear anti roll bar, tyres & a diff make the biggest difference. Then a good geo set up
@@nathanhitchcock3360 corsa’s 1.6 engine are the ones typically having an issue with pistons once tuned. Astra’s 2l LEH engine is pretty good unit for mild tuning before needing rebuilding / forging
Not a Nurburgring owner but as a fellow VXR owner I will say I love it, yeah people will say it’s only an Astra but at the end of the day drive whatever makes you happy lol
i owned #552, sold it to buy a house, still miss it now - people thought vxr's were hedge finders, far from it, especially with a rear arb, transformed them more than any mod.
Picked mine up on the 1st of September 2008 and still love it, I done the Modball Rally in it in 2016, saw it in your video from there start line haha, my middle name is Dave.

Everything will be a future classic. Most cars will become weekend toys espically in 10-15 years time when electric cars take over and the price of fuel petrol is huge.
They are shit owned one for two years, would personally say my mk4 gsi was a better car all around
I've got an Arctic Edition and I'd never sell the thing, I'll make it exactly how I want it so not standard but the fun it gives you is just so much. People slate vauxhall so much its really not justified because many who always ram on about understeer haven't haven't driven a proper sorted one. They aren't amazing standard not even close for handling but they really are great fun and the sound is just nuts one of the best sounding in line 4s made for sure! It feels special to me. I was going for a burg but the Arctic just ticked the boxes I wanted personally.

Not a burg owner but I do own a black vxr. Had it for 3 years now and still love it. Not sure if it’s on a standard map or not but it’s really quick and such fun. Such great looking cars too

It’s a car that does what It says on the tin. It’s a quick car and it’s reasonable and yes it’s no Rolls Royce Inside but what do you expect? Back in the day they were the quickest hot hatches on the road and the best looking with that silhouette. You’ve get plenty of haters for these Astra’s but really you’ve got to question why so many are quick to put it down.. you wouldn’t need to if it was a genuinely bad car which it really isn’t.
There's a few hot hatches of the same age that are much quicker than these

Just letting all these dudes that replied saying there’s quicker hot hatches then this around the same age there is absolutely not. The r26 megane is only faster around a track not a straight line this Astra is 0-62 in 6.2 and if you get the traction right it will do 6.0-6.1
Always loved the shape of these. Not often I say a Vauxhall is nice but this one is special.

Had my Arctic for 6 years and love it. Getting hold of a Remus system though... pain in the ass
One on ebay 58k miles no 182 and is going for 6995. I've always loved them and adding a cheeky remus etc but ideally I'd want a forged engine one about 350 ish power. But I'm a Ford man so I'd be in big trouble haha.
Cant beat the response and engine note. Ive had mine 6 years and yes there have been times I could have scrapped it in anger but for the price you cant beat them. Handling ok but good ride to which is a nice compromise. Very easy to work on or mod. Lack of road noise shames some modern cars.as well. Oh, and they dont rust away like fords of that era...lol

These were created because the Stig (Ben Collins) couldn't keep the regular Astra VXR on the track (due to no diff and too much understeer)
If someone wants an Astra VXR, just by a regular one and with the money you save (over these) buy an aftermarket LSD and coilovers. Sorted.
A lsd fitted is over a grand and decent coilovers are £600. Try a standard one with dap r springs £200 and a whiteline rarb and the car will stick to the road with £400 of handling mods. Anyone who has a rarb fitted will tell you it's the best mod for the vxr money can buy, it should have came out the factory like this and it wouldn't of got this bad reputation at the beginning

@@tommyfennell8670 it's normally number 4 but that's on the corsa vxr, astras usually do valve stems or 6th gear breaks on the M32 box
@@teamgaming1294 I thought the z20 could get p2 issues but might have been a load of crap 🤣. Probably heard it off someone. Had a 1.6 Astra for a while. Was soo bad on fuel and leaked a cocktail on the floor. Luckily I had the 5 speed so less chance of the box shredding it’s self 😆.

Edition 30s already are in some cases. The regular gti - probably in a few years time once the less well kept examples have gone off the road. Quite a few motoring journalists still favour the mk5 as the best gti, plus its the last 'old school' gti where you can properly turn off the electronic controls without it interfering.

Had my Arden from new 30k......trust me the only place they get hate is in the TH-cam comments section by brand loyal trolls in the UK🤣. In the rest of Europe Opel are very fondly thought of. Remember these cars were popping for fun back in 2006....something people pay to have mapped in now🤣

Guys do you know, is it still possible to convert an OPC to Nurburgring Edition? Are those special parts like stickers, mirror covers etc. on sale at Opel or Vauxhall services?
The only real difference between Nburg and OPC is the remus exhaust and some stickers
Its a shame that Vauxhall is now french,no more sporty cars and its all based on a peugeot or citroen....

Fair point but I think Vauxhall were doing ok to just about match the power of the Audi that was loads more to buy and beat the GTI by at least 40 bhp. As a former mk5 GTI owner I still think the Astra was probably the more “fun”. car.

Astra H VXR isn’t that bad. They get a bad rep but that’s mainly down to poor maintenance and bad mods
For the price you can buy a good one now and get your money back when the time comes. Iv had mine 4 years and paid 3700 and for one in good condition like mine are going for 4000-4500 now and rising. Yes iv spent money maintaining it properly but it's been a seriously fun 4 years driving it daily. Yes the s3's golf r's are taking over the hot hatch scene but at 4× the price the vxr is still a good buy for a fun hot hatch
@@darrenmicklewright2008 i nearly traded my full spec 57 plate SRI XP 1.9 for a ex demo VXR Nurburgring in 2008 at Lookers on Liverpool. I’m sure it was up for sale around the 20K mark. Ever since I’ve fancied one but never been able to find a car with the same spec as the car at Lookers or my XP Astra. I’ve since ended up buying a Mk4 GSI. Personally I find the face the GSI isn’t perfect more fun to drive than the two Golf R’s I’ve had.

I want to like the Astra H vxr & Corsa D vxr. I hate the interiors though, enough to put me off even trying one that black piano style dash is awful
It's not really to bad once you wrap abit of the plastic bits carbon fibre add a few boost - temp - afr gauges and a smd conversion in blue or whatever colour you like makes the astra cabin a nice place to be for a 13 year old car

I like this model of astra they drive nice with plenty of poke but back when they were new a friend at work had one and my s13 would spank it silly in the bends and for power delivery even my wifes remapped civic diesel used to pull on it 😜

St is a great car and that engine is the star of the show. My brother has a red 1.
St sound great and handle well but to even think about getting 300bhp you need double the money, things like clutch can only just take a map, block mod advised for 300bhp+ then the driveshafts are chocolate, ive had on and a vxr now own a 265cup megane

Mate of mine had 1 last year and said it was the biggest piece of shit hes ever bought, I'd been out in it a few times, absolute bone shaker you'd think the suspension was made from scaffolding it was that hard of a ride, sounded nice but apart from that they got fuck all going for them, cheap as fuck for a reason i suppose 🤷♂️
