Hello Ubuntu
Grate work guys 😘
Congratulations on this fantastic release!

Ubuntu is an ancient African word which means I cannot configure Debian
I am not sure if ancient Africans knew about debian
@@car-soapif ancient African word ancient African, deadloop....😂
i feel it
how do i configure debian to get security updates for 12 years?
joke aside
but for me it's harder to configure Ubuntu server than Debian
It's very polished. Very professional.
Ooh, I love the new LTS!😊
I literally just updated from 22.04 to 24.04 because of the Quarter-Tiling feature
Hello ?did you loose any data when upgrading from 22.04 to 24.04 since when I upgraded from 20 to 22 I didn't lose any data and I hadn't backuped my data in a separate usb?
For Ubuntu Pro - you can have it for free for 5 machines for personal/evaluation usage. IMHO worth enabling
I agree, despite most people upgrading their OS's within the regular support period.
@@hindigente yeah... But maybe if people would use it more, then it won't be necessary that much to do major upgrade?
Thank you DT, nice video.
WOW!! just saw this video and glad to hear about the new release. Although I'm on Debian now, Ubuntu will always be special to me and i would always recommend Ubuntu to any friends over any other distro. Thanks for the update DT! I'll download the ISO and add it to my Ventoy collection.
Installed it yesterday, couldn't wait
As a flutter dev their installer is VERY well done! I'm very excited to see what else they bring to the flutter/linux ecosystem, especially as I've noticed a lot of Flutter-Rust developer job listings for Canonical recently.
Great overview of the new features
This was a very informative overview of Ubuntu 24.04, thank you.
Dt knows linux, Markets and comedy in equal measure
Great video and very informative, Kudos.
Nice video. Thanks. One comment - as stated on the installation screen Ubuntu Pro is currently free for up to five devices.
thank you for this video
I have to say it's by far the most GORGEOUS installer I have seen in my life
You are probably really young then :P
@@AaronStarkLinuxWhat installer do you consider beautiful?
the tty
@@barelybreathing sure 👍
Who cares about the installer?
I have the impression that this is the most important thing about the operating system for some users.
No matter how times I see it, I am always amazed by your strong and complicated passwords
DT have you ever produced a video outlining the steps necessary to migrate to a new version of a given OS? Like, what dotfiles and whatnot would be necessary to recreate environment on a fresh install?
distrotube you're getting comment botted 😭
it's a sign that you made it in the YT community xD but just report them as spam and hopefully they'll be removed quickly
thanks Elon
everyone gets comment botted
Good for the algorithm, people even pay for it ...
This is already so much better than 22.04. Thank you Ubuntu for such a polished release. I have to say, I am very shocked on how well 24.04 looks. In fact, I am running 24.04 as of right now. I just can't get over how neat and pretty it looks lmao
one thing i noticed in the app center is that it doesn't tell you if the app is already installed; you need to select it first and see if it has the option to install or open. would be nice if there was some indication when browsing like an icon to show that it is already installed. I guess it's ok for the novice user but for more experienced users, install the synaptic package manager for more control and filtering options.
nvidia open kernel drivers are available in ubuntu, can be install through apt
Hey DT, sorry if you've gotten this request before but I was wondering whether - to better demonstrate the automatic proprietary driver installation tools in distros like this - would you consider doing these test drives on bare metal and using a hardware screen capture device to get the video? Literally the only nitpick I've got. Thanks for another cracking video - I'm a Debian diehard but this has got me curious...
Just upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04 worked well, no issues. Wanted to change to something more stable so went for the LTS. Seems nice.
it's feels so snappy and polished
Hey dt, can you take another look at trisquel, there have been major changes since you last reviewed
the only accessibility focused desktop is actually the mate desktop, works with screen readers unlike gnome
I was trying things out today. Fallout 4 works pretty good on it. And i use logos bible study software which is not native at all but the guys that take care of that install script have done a great job getting it to work and it installed easier than i have ever had it install on 24.04 LTS
_yeah - installed it yet.. the thing is: closing Gimp leads to a horrible crash (of Gimp). Valgrind gave me a hint to solve the issue; I installed the canberra-gtk-module_
They didn’t add a feature where the appearance switches from light dark mode based on a set schedule or automatically based on location?
DT, what about the size of application now since default format is snap ??? I found the live iso is 6 GB ! Huge size. I understand they have compression on snap now to speed the loading of it. But they use more memory since libraries will be many times in memory because they are all included in every snanp. I'm curious to know what do you think of that ??
I thought i will never use gnome as a desktop environment but pop!_os changed my mind on it with tilling. So until i wait for the cosmic DE, gnome with forge extension is the way :) since pop os's version stopped being supported.
Would be a great idea if you do use previous version to give it some time let the early wanting to try and can debug it if need be, just to be sure any issues if they arise., I always do so like up to 3 months but minimum 2.
You can't help noticing the crown in the middle of the screen. Canonical is run from London.
I like the generic utility names, it's a royal pain needing to test the webcam but I can't recall if it is called 'Cheese', 'Gouda', 'Brie' or whatever . I simply need to look for camera because I need to test the camera. Since I use different distros in different situations having generic names for some things is quite helpful to me at least.
My guess is Gnome took the complaint about the weird names open source used to heart and started naming by function. I never have been a fan of that. If you must go that route, than the about boxes should be pretty clear about what the actual app name is.
I think Web was Epiphany or something. I've no idea what Terminal or calculator are. The application names are too generic and make it harder to find information about them. At least KDE usually throws the k in front.
Looking for man pages is nasty when you don't know what the name of the application is.
Probably a bigger deal for those of us using Proxmox or other remote VMs but I have to say the "Remote Access" feature on Ubuntu 24.04 seems WAAAAY better so far, I can straight up run a VM with RDP and it's near butter smooth!
Hey DT, why is there no animations in your Ubuntu vm? Is it like that by default?
I laughed way too hard at Naive Nitwit 😂
😂 me too
same here 😂😂😂😂
😂
very nice.. i wish i have hi end machine to try this latest Ubuntu.
XFS is my favorite filesystem !
I always like how Ubuntu makes Desktop Linux easier to use than lets say...Arch
1:42 with the interactive install, it would be nice if it cold generate a file for the 'Automated installation' for your next few PC's
It's saved in /etc/env_v/flutterf/2024/instl.yaml
@@markhou Thanks, pity it's not mentioned on screen
Hi. how to make ubuntu with desktop enlightenment? is there an iso ready to use on the starter pendrive? Thx.
Is it just me or the App Center in Ubuntu 24.04 won't open ?? I already tried different fixes but none of them works. I did a fresh install on my computer and this is the first time I have this problem. It starts opening when I click on the icon but it closes before I can see a screen totally open
When I install ubuntu, I will choose its cinnamon desktop environment version because it seems more stable than gnome and feels at home.
I installed Ubuntu yesterday and it's been great! my only problem is that the third party driver installer doesn't show the last nvidia driver, it's stuck in 535
8:48 i think that they installed the tiling assistant extension
I like it, but it has a lot of bugs. Dont leave the plasma-systemmonitor running because he will eat memory until you have to hard power off ! I would hold upgrading until the first set of patches have been released. (sorry talking about KUbuntu)
Hi dt i tried to install your dtos in archolinux but the system is not working I got this error : Desktop manager is not active
I just wish Lubuntu shipped with LXQt 2.0, but the upgrade seems pretty good regardless.
Installed as a snapPACK :D
Is there any reasons to run Ubuntu LTS server -vs- Debian? I've only used Debian so I'm honestly curious.
If you want 10 years of support then ubuntu lts is a good option.
Ubuntu has a quicker release cycle, longer support, commercial support (if needed), snaps (which are GREAT on the server), and support for ZFS. Just a few differences that are obvious. I'm sure there's many other areas where they differ.
I like to use the LTS version because I actually like to be able to use my computer without always having to fiddle with it.
I like your Ubuntu tee-shirt.
By the time you disable collecting info canonical already got your pc info
Finally a mouse acceleration toggle in the settings of Gnome. Took way too long.
Two questions.
1)How easy is to add a secondary m.2? So steam can pick it up.
2) how's gaming on Ubuntu?
Running on 24.04 right now. It's a great Linux distro, and I would recommend this to anyone. Except that, on my first try, it can't decrypt my ZFS drive, seems like an issue with swap, which I think should be zRAM already. And the buggy "Enhanced" tiling that would crash the entire system, kicked me out of the session, when I double-click on the GNOME top bar. Nonetheless, ZFS runs great on the system. Excellence distro!
I use fedora, but what strikes me about reviews like this (no offense to you) is that they become less of a review of this distros specific implementation, and more a review of Gnome, which is I assume going to be the same across the board irrespective of distro, as long as they have the same gnome version. I love the quarter tiling feature and can’t wait for that! I felt reviewing the wallpapers was unnecessary however.
I'm getting an unusual error. I've installed Ubuntu many times and have never experienced the 'Failed to Open /EFI/ubuntu - not found' error. I've done some poking around, but cannot find any insight on why this error appears. (At least not my exact circumstances) The system seems to boot fine. It's just that the error is mildly irritating. Has anyone else had this? Is this a bug? TIA
it drives me crazy how the tip of the crown and the time is not centered smh
Hello , I am interested with dual boot with windows 11 pro . Kindly make one of it too .
Are you in a new studio?
Same studio the past 3~ years
Last year they said an immutable version of Ubuntu was about to come out, but no news about it.
Yeh they have Ubuntu Core
dpkg -i {random Deb} will always work.
It's an installer! If it works, you can work. It doesn't have to look good.
6GB ISO. Default install is "minimal". Make it make sense!
but what does Richard Stallman think of ubuntu ????????????????????
I think Ubuntu without Snap package are little bit better for any potatoes device. Especially running on cheap laptop or old computer
I was on Fedora 40 but I hate it, I'm back on Ubuntu, I'll upgrade to 24.10 when it comes out for now I'm on 24.04.
Endeavoros Gemini with Wayland please
Snap packages not always work as expected, because it is some isolation and, for example, in Termius if it from snap local terminal wouldn't work. Or, You can have some other bugs in program that isn't exist in deb package or program can work just little slower. It's not true for all software from snap, but sometimes it can happen.
I had these problems with snaps before this version - now they`re working very fast and stable ! I`m very impressed of this LTS-Version ! 🤓
@@SenorRossi70 I had this problem with snap on Arch, so, perhaps it's not a distro problem)
@@macedonskyuaon Arch I ´ve never used snaps...
@@SenorRossi70 official snap for Termius updates faster there than in aur, so that was main reason why I used it)
They have stopped Deb files to be installed in the software centre, so brand new users to Linux would not know about terminal commands or gdebi. The software centre just spins around when trying to install a deb file. This is bad.
New users shouldnt know about gdebi or the terminal to begin with. That's a very good development
Is it "Ga - Nomes" or just "Nomes" ?
Still no separate /home partition option in the installer
I would never notice because, aside from the fact that most drives have already been properly partitioned, I tend to do manual partitioning on new drives.
I'm planning to save up and get an NVmE drive for myself just to see if I can install it.
I'll probably move to Arch with KDE plasma, but this is neat while I wait (I installed the dev version and it was alright).
You have nice glasses
I AM A A LINUX FUN FOR ALMOST 9 YEARS, AND THE LAST 6 I ONLY HAVE LINUX ON MY MACHINES, THE LAST WINDOWS I HAVE LIVED WAS WINDOWS 7, BUT I HAVE TO GIVE THE REGARDS TO THE GNOME TEAM, FOR MAKING THE TILING FEATURE TO CHOOSE THE 2ND WINDOW TO TILE AUTOMATICALY, ALTHOUGH THE IDEA WAS ADOPTED FROM WINDOWS 10.
IS IT POSSIBLE, TO EXPLAIN WHAT FIRMWARE IS AND WHAT IS ITS JOB? (IDEA FOR NEXT VIDEO)
I AM ALSO A DT FUN..... ALTHOUGH I LIVE IN XFCE (LINUX MINT) :)
It's a good thing for new users to label those apps generically. They're making preparations for new users to switch becuase you know theres prediction of huge spike of uers when win10 is gone.
I agree. Linux app naming can sometimes be very odd so generic names are a good thing for newbie users. However to make everyone happy that could be an optional feature that could be changed from the settings.
@@pienipehmea3243 I agree, in windows you could do that so it should be a linux feature too
Totally disagree about never having to install a deb. I have had to install many deb packages due to no flatpak or snap. Or the icon doesn't appear in the tray with a flatpak or snap, but does with the deb. Some examples are Megasync and ExpanDrive.
I found that Ubuntu 24.04 didn't have the latest Nvidia 550 driver. Also when I tried to use the software manager updates failed. Seems like there are still some bugs and it is better waiting until they get an update.
Ubuntu is the King 👑
Linux is the King
@@AaronStarkLinux 3% strong king?
I mean, at least it isn't Windows. (I don't like Ubuntu very much.)
@@mrawther Linux John Snow was that 3% and look what happened then after defeating the Windows Lannisters and Apple Baratheons...
TempleOS is the Lord, It is the King. Accept It into your heart.
its debian 24.10 alpha beta testing and ubuntu theme and they call it. stable
NN Neat newbie
I wish Ubuntu would come with extension manager and gnome tweaks already installed which almost everyone on the planet ends up having to get anyways. And at 5.7gb, it's as big as Windows 11 now. xubuntu, mate, and lubuntu are much smaller in size. So what's the bloat in ubuntu? EDIT: Ubuntu Mate didn't even bother to change any wallpapers at all from 22.04, it's time for ubuntu to start kicking out some flavors for no development.
8:45 that feature has existed on windows for years surprised that’s a new feature
It is new for Ubuntu LTS, that the icons of the other open apps are shown (probably some Gnome option or extension that was already available for other distros).
But tiling windows are not generally new to Linux. Check out i3wm, sway, qtile or dwm, if you want to go crazy with it.
It's one of the features I missed the most
The Win11 version of it is actually the best. Which is surprising because micro$oft bungled everything else up on windows
Ill try the new ubuntu as a vm under fedora 40. The kde version is real slick!
The new, overhyped 24.04 installer has a show stopping (for my use-case) issue, with a lack of UEFI option on the manual partitioning. I tested with both Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Ubuntu Cinnamon.
I agree with the very generic naming scheme.
I think they should stick with that in the desktop, but show to real name in the app info
i don't use ubuntu because i'm a human being with a soul
Ubuntu has become a no go for me in both my desktop and server. I really cannot get behind them forcing everything to the snap store especially since canonical are the only ones in control of the snap store. I feel too many people gushing over the wonders of the new lts fail to mention this critical fact. It is a shame but at least for me it has made me change to fedora for desktop and redhat enterprise for my servers
"Naive Nitwit" 😆

Void Linux now. I stopped using Ubuntu Desktop since they started snaps.

I gravitate back to Debian Sid, always been solid regardless of it being labeled as unstable. Ubuntu, Snaps, and closed proprietary software now kills the Linux experience as a whole.
Well, 23min is not 'quick'...
I'm currently using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and I'm not planning on upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I will upgrade and switch to Debian 12.

Identical situation. I started the transition 1 month ago (it will be quite slow)
@@YanFei-zi7mm ✌✌
@@antoniobaianosvizzero764 Indeed, no need to rush anything. The upgrade from Gnome 42 to Gnome 43 will be more than enough. I'm tired of trying the latest version of everything, especially Gnome. There are some minor improvements and changes, but stability and refined software is a higher priority for me. Now Gnome 43 on Debian is a solid rock.
@@AaronStarkLinux We're on the same page. As a beginner, it made sense for me to choose Ubuntu, but after 5 years there's no reason of not running Debian.
