Gay Shame: The Rise of Gender Ideology and the New Homophobia - Gareth Roberts

  • On today's #NCFWhittle we speak with television screenwriter, novelist and Spectator columnist Gareth Roberts best known for his work writing for shows such as Dr. Who, The Fast Show, Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Gareth's new book is "Gay Shame: The Rise of Gender Ideology and the New Homophobia": www.amazon.co....
Only a few years ago, it seemed that the fight for gay rights was won in the UK: legal equality was achieved, prejudice rapidly dying out. Mission accomplished, right?
Wrong, argues Gareth Roberts. Homophobia is making a major comeback under the guise of the ideology of ‘gender identity’. The enforcers of this new creed insist that attraction to people of the same sex is ‘hateful’. They argue that effeminate men and butch women can’t just be gay, but must ‘really’ be trans. Worse, this ideology has colonised the gay rights movement, capturing institutions like Stonewall and the gay press completely. Anyone who disagrees risks professional suicide.
So what happened to the funny, grown-up culture, truth-telling and knowing irony of many gay men? How and why was the older gay rights activism, which gifted such progress to homosexual people, hijacked?
In this passionate, witty polemic, Gareth Roberts answers these questions and argues that we need a new gay liberation movement. Order here: www.amazon.co....

I’m not sick of hearing about it, what I’m sick of hearing about is how oppressed and hard gone by they all are. It’s June and every major city has a festival or parade, every major corporation has a rainbow on their logo. Every store selling merchandise. Rainbow flags everywhere. A whole month while our veterans don’t get more than a day. Stop saying you’re oppressed! People who are actually oppressed are unseen and uncared for.

@@cungzjohnjohn122 I agree, people have the right to make their own decisions when they reach adulthood. But until they do, their parents should have the right and the freedom to protect their children from making decisions they might regret in a few years time. I am also concerned about parents who cannot accept that their child might be, or is LGB, and have tog along with making them 'normal' The intensely homophobic regime in Iran carries out non consensual 'gender affirming' surgeries, primarily on gay men in order that they can be regarded as women and have sexual and romantic relationships with other men.
There are instances where this has been lauded by trans activists and their allies in the West. This is madness. They are celebrating a human rights violation and portraying it as trans friendly. How much more do they need to know in order to see this as insane?

Reevaluating the concept of pride parades may be worthwhile, given their changing importance. Whether one is straight, identifies with mythical beings, or is gay, the question arises: do all these labels, letters, and pronouns truly benefit or unite us? They appear to contribute to division and tribalism, akin to the current political climate. Some might argue the necessity of any parade at all, which is indeed a valid inquiry.

Thank you very much for covering this topic. Being a gay German guy, i have noticed left-wing homophobia for years.
Gay and bi men are regularly beaten up in major German cities and you are not allowed to point out that much of that is due to islamic influence and migration from islamic and african countries.
But also parts of the "queer" community are quite homophobic.
    - A non-binary Swiss author describes gay identity as "proto-fascist" - book wins German and Swiss book prize.
    - Pansexual Mr Gay Germany says desiring only men means "walking through the world with blinders on". Even worse, others call homosexuals "genital fetishists" for not loving "all genders".
    - An asexual person speaks in German podcast about how love and sexuality are too visible in the LGBT community. She is also bothered by the slogan “Love is Love”.
    - A "queer book" states that gay men become oppressors of marginalized groups by coming out.

Dysmorphia is not the same as dysphoria, although one could easily argue that it shares the same root cause as other psychological distresses such as anorexia, bulimia, and various other factors in possessing a warped self-image. It's also notably relevant in appreciating that you cannot separate T from being a state of mental unwellness, and that you thus do not participate in someone's mental distress by claiming that their warped self-image, beliefs, or delusions are in any way 'valid'. Hence why the legal lies and demand for social participation needs to come to an end.

This is where I see the clear distinction. LGB is about sexual attraction, and I can even see poly, pan and asexual are still apart of the alphabet. However, being trans or gender fluid has nothing to do with sexual orientation or attraction. It’s the only part of the alphabet that isn’t revolving around sexual attraction, which is why it doesn’t make sense for it to be included.

The LGB is a $3 Trillion industry in the US.
Corporations run by a few billionaires have benefited from this industry.
The push for the T (in lgbt) has been from the Top, by 'transgender' billionaires.
But the only way to make profits from the 'T' was to push the false assertion - - that the sex binary of male/female was defunct (there is no profit in it).
So now there are hundreds of genders and gender clinics all over the world and all the rest of the paraphernalia - - leading on to the brave new world of 'transhumanism'.
This kind of damaging nonsense is fed from above.

Anyway they used to take me to gay bars all the time and nobody cared. Was a brilliant time of my life even though I’m straight. This lovely man could see where the LGB was going, even back then. He can’t even attend pride marches anymore because in his words ‘I didn’t fight for gay rights to have someone wear assless chaps in front of kids’. He was also highly critical of the trans movement stating a lot of what’s said here. It’s getting rid of gay men or lesbian women. Plus it’s playing up to the stereotypes we tried to get rid of I.e cars for boys dolls for girls. And finally it’s a real affront to women. Men in dresses invading our spaces. What about our rights? As an older gay man myself, the greatest prejudice and discrimination that I have ever endured has been from (within) the LGBT community, far more so from “homophobic” straights but from other gay men, prompting me to cut all ties and support with and for the LGBT community 18 years ago since coming out in my teens in the 1980’s - back then, older gay men of my grandparents generation were totally against the changes that we were seeing back then and among many other things such as gay pride, were also against the decriminalisation of homosexuality - perhaps they were right, as being gay being made legal has been a “double edged sword” as we have witnessed the double standards and hypocrisy of the modern day LGBT community which has tarnished its own reputation, such as with “drag queen story hour” - as a result of thier behaviour and especially that during Covid, I am now totally opposed to any forms of sex education, both straight and gay, in any school setting, especially in Primary schools, which is totally inappropriate in primary schools - I don’t believe that destroying childhood innocence at primary school level can be justified or explained away by saying that it’s a generational thing, as I believe that basic standards of morality and decency don’t need a generational or a religious component to remain timeless and relevant, as doing what’s right surpasses all religious, cultural, moral or generational boundaries - those that are pushing these demonic and satanic ideas in the infiltrated, hijacked and ideologically captured LGBT community are going to set the gay community back centuries in terms of gay rights and equality and are storing up trouble for our community in terms of an anti-gay backlash, especially from the Islamic community

I’ve never woken up one day in my life and experienced feeling as though I was trapped or born Into the wrong physiological reality that has nothing to do with the same sex attraction. A true homosexual is a homosexual because he recognizes himself as a attracted to males who were born biological males so what you have now is you have the trans movement attaching itself to gayness and trans men men who are born biological, females calling biological gay males homophobic if they don’t want to date them and the same thing with trans females trans females that were born biological males are shaming in some cases, bullying pressuring, coercing lesbians, who were born as biological females for not wanting to date them.
So what happened to all of the effeminate little boys the little feminine sissy boys they don’t exist anymore what about the peppermint patties of the world the little butch girls? What about Tom boys? No girl is a tomboy anymore. Lionel Shriver a few weeks ago spoke about how gay marriage was initially seen as being the last civil rights cause of the alphabet people, but of course, it wasn't, which is why the Trains movement was born as another struggle to fight. The point is to have a constant cause to fight for. What would be left after that is MAP ("love is love") and after that animal "friendship" that likely involves peanut butter. The point is complete adult hedonism no matter who or what gets hurt.

It’s probably worth pointing out that the people who would say this don’t actually exist. Furthermore, from my experience the people who claim that they do exist just tend to insist ‘yes they do exist. Educate yourself’ or to cite individual examples of other people claiming such people exist, rather than direct evidence of such people actually existing.

I am married to a transwoman. We were married as a straight heterosexual couple 25 years ago. She was always attracted to girls, but suffered dreadfully from gender dysphoria. In fact a few people encouraged her to date guys, they thought she was gay because of her feminine demeanor. She wasnt interested at all. So now she is a transwoman who is still attracted to women, so in effect has become gay. So this theory does not make sense at all. Gender dysphoria has nothing to do with being straight or gay, its a neurophysiological difference where the brain is a different gender to the body.

Over the last 30 years, most straight people in the west have come to embrace/accept/tolerate that all people are equal and deserve a life of just being themselves, with the same rights and privileges as us straight people. Now, the perfect storm of unchecked academic fantasy research into gender identify, access to social media, and a dire shortage of critical thinking including an understanding of history and science, the woke madness has emboldened conservatives to go after the whole alphabet soup of progressives.

13:50 if we're coining new phrases, another one...
"Biolphobia": an irrational aversion to biological reality (as a concept), and/or to those for whom biological reality is important.
Those for whom biological reality is important, can find biolphobic ideas troubling, distressing, or offensive.
Many adherents of the new gender ideology are biolphobic.
But by no means are all trans people biolphobic. Gender dysphoria and biolphobia are very different concepts.
Gender dysphoria is when you feel very uncomfortable about your own body and if the condition persists you may feel better presenting as the opposite gender, even living that way full time. Society had over the last few decades started to become far more accepting of people like this. But that progress has been hampered more recently by confusion with a new idea far less worthy: Biolphobia. Biolphobes reject the very concept that everyone's body is either male or female, and/or that that is important in some situations.

There's an argument though that the two 'groups' (gay/trans) share common sources of prejudice to bring them together - and that each does impact the other as there has always been gender fluidity within gay scenes throughout history. I think of Russell T Davies, the current Dr Who show runner, who has a considerable platform or even Peter Tatchell, both argue for the coming together of gay and trans rights/activism. I do worry the alignment is far too simplistic in both political and philosophical terms. Trans as an ideology can find itself in conflict with mainstream binary thinking about sexuality and the fact that the gay movement has not wholly embraced non-binary ideas around gender - as well as radical feminism, as we've seen most publicly with JK Rowling.

If words like 'Islamophobia' and 'transphobia' are quite rightly decried as junk terms used purely to shut down criticism and discussion of certain topics, then why are words like 'homophobia' or 'xenophobia' any different?
I've been puzzled for years watching people on the Right - or just the non-woke side of things - dismiss the phoney medicalisation of certain opinions in this way, while being more than fine to go along with it with regards to other topics. It doesn't even make sense as a kind of synonym for 'bigotry', as you're effectively saying that someone's beliefs are irrational, and therefore out of their conscious control. But apart from anything else, to give credence to some of these terms while dismissing others out of hand is completely inconsistent.
As was hinted at in this video, if you let your opponents set the rules in terms of what language you use, you've lost before you even begin.
