My friend and Cadillac aficionado, Richard Sills, described the show as " if I believed in heaven, this would be it! "

love the 48’s and 49’s. I wish I kept my 48 Series 62…but everyone regrets the cars they’ve sold.

When the 60 Special appeared in, I think, 1939, if memory serves me right, Packard management poo-poo'd it, believing that the public would think it looked flimsy. Aye-yai-yai-yai-yai.

Packard had found success with the 120 but pushed to far with the 110. There were a number of missteps which we can see with 20/20 hindsight. Ahh, Dave, you are so right. We all have a few which " got away ". They are still out there for reasonable money: studio.th-cam.com/users/videotkIUfPYb8KM/edit?o=U

They had such beautiful colors back then

Believe it or not, manufacturers offer some very nice colors today, but people keep buying white, gray and black. I guess they think these are proper colors for refrigerators.

It's almost merciful that Alvan Macauley didn't live to see too many of the '50s Cadillacs. He died in January, 1952.

It must have been so hard on Mr. Macauley to see the struggles of Packard slipping from the dominance of the pre war luxury market to a distant number two and slipping.

@@carshowreporter I think I've mentioned this before, but a buddy of mine bought a 1949 Cadillac fastback in 1970 for $100. Those deals were common back then. "Anything that runs is worth $100". And that 1953 Fleetwood looked just like our nextdoor neighbor's car. Lord, I'd love to go back! That neighbor, by the way, was Silver Cloud George's sister-in-law. His wife, Queen Mary, drove a '55 Cadillac. And we had a 1960 Chevy.

Sounds like Silver Cloud George's family owned half of the neighborhood!! I know what you mean about the $100 specials! My first car on the road was a 1958 Mercedes 220s with the sunroof. I stole the car at $125. She was worth at least $150!!!! 😉😄

@@carshowreporter Silver Cloud George's family owned half the town, or at least had owned it. Read the late David McCullough's final book, "The Pioneers," which is about the opening of the Northwest Territory. Most of the people he wrote about could be seen in original oil portraits on the walls in Silver Cloud George's home.
