My mom married my dad at 16 years old he was an army soldier of 24. He was her first everything. After 7 children and a ton of hard work and heart ache my father a self taught carpenter retired at 65 and died of cancer at 68. My mom and we children huddled in a small hospital room taking turns holding both of his hands assuring him we were there. He slipped away right when we all heard a huge thunder bolt hit somewhere close. We all felt as though that was him showing us he was just so pissed off about having to leave. My brothers got tattoos of thunderbolts in memory of him. We girls 5 of us, remember him when we see a seagull as he told us to. My mother is now 84 and was asked out by this wealthy professor where she worked at the University. When I asked her about it she said she would never go out with another man she had one and he was her life. Many don’t found their person, I’m glad she did and wish I could.

I watched my Dad sitting with my Mom the day before she passed away, holding her hand and they were talking to one another like I had never seen between them before, saying their goodbyes to one another. It so touched my heart as they didn’t have an easy marriage, and although I couldn’t hear them, I felt like they were letting all of that go and expressing their love for one another. My Mom passed two days later and my Dad mourned her until the day he died. I know they are together again in Heaven.
