The last two years have given us plenty of reasons to seek a jaunty, joyous listening experience in our music. And one of the best finds around is Los Bitchos-the all-female, internationally assembled outfit consisting of Australia-born Serra Petale (guitar), Sweden’s Josefine Jonsson (bass), Uruguay’s Agustina Ruiz (keytar), and South Londoner Nic Crawshaw (drums).
Los Bitchos’ bubbly instrumental psychedelia cocktail mixes their collective musical ingredients (Argentinian cumbia, Peruvian chicha, Turkish Anatolian rhythms, and classic American surf rock), creating a devilishly delicious concoction that’s refreshing as a mojito, hits like a negroni, and is as tropical as a mai tai. The good-time gals socked the world with their 2022 debut, Let the Festivities Begin!, showcasing their superpower of rump-shaking revelry.
Before Los Bitchos’ Nashville opening slot in support of Belle and Sebastian, PG was invited to the historic Ryman Auditorium for a quick and loose gear chat. We covered their streamlined setups that include a favored, fast Italian ride (not a Ducati) that made the trip from the U.K., learned why Petale is “Miss Chorus” and loves the effect’s “sad sounds,” and was schooled on why Jonsson just needs a J bass and an Ampeg amp to make the room twist and shout.

I saw them live like 3 months ago and I found it super interesting that Serra plays with like 90% up-picks. (Also had no idea that she’s actually a sick bongo player too till I saw them live)

I had the chance to see them twice in festivals this summer. Such a great time, a lot of energy and you see that they are having fun on stage. Can't wait to hear new tracks.

There may be some yet unknown potential there!? 🙂

@@xb5883 - Disagree. Every instrument needs to occupy its own lane. Too much high end or low end will clash with everyone else. She is doing it correctly. She will cut through the mix.
I just don't understand any smaller-scale touring musician who doesn't go with a digital all-in-one system (Fractal, Kemper, Helix, NQC, etc.) Especially when they aren't corksniffing gearheads talking about some ancient germanium blend mined from some magical mountain in Tibet.
One unit, one monitor or IEMs. Two trip load-in maximum. Eliminate excess points of failure. Eliminate a million intangibles.
Plus, a Fractal unit can run the guitar and bass through the same unit.

It's only been around like for over 5 decades in various forms, from 60s garage rock to 70s punk, 80s hardcore, 90s alternative, etc etc, surely you have been confronted with this conundrum before many times. I do not care for such music myself either, but can understand what it is and isnt about, the concept is pretty easy to grasp.
And *still* she's out there playing in a band and touring across the World and having loads of fun with it, instead of working in a boring 9-to-5! 😊👍

You could have started a band and played festivals and toured the world after two hours of playing but it took her years of playing and practice. Quite the luxury you have, must be nice to have been born with such a large silver spoon.
