Oh lovely coat fabric Cheryl. Thanks for the info on the melton wool, v helpful. I do love the navy cotton. Just gorgeous. Thanks as always for sharing xx
Hi Cheryl thank you for sharing your lovely fabric choices and your makes. I have been meaning to thank you for the last blog you send about indie patterns and the discount code on most of them. I had a field day ordering the patterns from sewing cake i love most of the patterns. I look forward to making them. The coat fabric is a must happy sewing xx 😊
aww, thanks Sarah, glad you enjoyed discovering a new designer. They're lovely patterns aren't they? Hope they are enjoying lots of new order from us all.x
Well you won't be surprised to hear I love all of your fabrics as usual. Fantastic news that you are getting a bigger space!! Thank you for sharing :-) x
Thank you so much for showing your beautiful fabrics! You have such great taste, and me too love the soft feeling of fabrics! Have a wonderful day! Christine
I've just ordered the Sky Wrap pattern. I've got mobility problems, and if I go anywhere it tends to be by car. Big coats can feel suffocating when you're driving, so I think this wrap is a perfect car coat.
Hi Sheryl. I really enjoyed the info on coating fabrics. I made 3 coatigans last year in knit boucle and love them. One red, one teal and one powder blue. This year I am making one in chocolate brown. Your crew boucle is drop dead gorgeous. Have a lovely day.
Love the idea of your mustard Erin skirt and those brown buttons would be fab! I’ve made two Erins and they were both super quick makes, you’ll be done in no time.
Great video! Love your fabrics! So nice. I received my Breton Stripes yesterday, goodness such fast shipping to US!! Can't wait to see your new space and an Edie video would be awesome! Take Care!
Thanks again Cheryl for another informative video. I always aim to purchase my fabrics from Stitchy Bee if possible as I know that they will be excellent quality. However I am on an enforced fabric ban at the moment as my fabric stash as started to take over the house! 😢 xx
Hi Tracey, aww thanks for your kind words and loyalty. I can totally relate, ha ha, don't worry I love showing everyone new fabrics, and we can't buy more every week 😊
Thank you! That was such a great video..really helpful. I am a curtain maker by trade and thought using curtain fabric for the Chloe coat idea brilliant!!!
Hi Cheryl, how exciting having a bigger space.... can't wait to see it 😉. You have some lovely coat fabrics and I love the Jacquard one.... beautiful colours 💞. You have given us some great tips there and I'll refer back to this when I make a coat. I'm making a Molly top from Lisa's first book at the moment..... I'm a bit behind in my garment making 😉. I'm loving Lisa's second e-book and like the look of most of the patterns, including the Edie top and I forget what it was called, but I love the little cropped blouse, that's also a dress, but I'm more of a separates person myself. It has a covered placket, so I'm hoping the instructions are fairly easy to follow . My main problem is how to resist your lovely fabrics 😉😁😘
My husband bought me a beautiful snow white long cape coat for Christmas many years ago. I still have it, use it occasionally, absolutely love it and adore him for doing that so early in our relationship. But, I would still like to make that cape you were wearing in the beginning of this video. Wish I knew more about those fabrics. Think I could handle the cape. Haven't sewn clothes since high school---50 years ago!!!
Thanks for those tips, you’ve saved me from probable disappointment. I have a woven Bargello type print fabric paired with a very fitted style coat, 12 fish eye waist darts ..... I had vaguely thought about possible pattern distortion with all those darts, but now I’m going to really think about it seriously. I suspect i’ll go for a different coat make.
Thanks Cheryl, I enjoyed this video! I'm a beginner sewer, so am gearing myself up to sew my first (basic) coats and jackets ... I'm thinking the Grainline Studios Morris Blazer for the office - that stretch denim would be perfect!
that's a great idea Michelle, I haven't looked at the fabric requirement of the Morris, but have admired it for a while. I know it works on Ponte Roma, just make sure that denim is on their list.x 😊
Laying on a sunbed in Lanzarote at the moment..... I love watching your videos.... thankyou so much for the inspiration for the coating as I want to make a winter coat this year? x
ahh, enjoy Ruby, I'm not jealous at all, ha ha. I bet the thought of a warm coat is the last thing on your mind in that lovely sunshine, but great to plan ahead 😊
I love your sight. I ordered fabric from you and it finally came. I wish you had a distributor in San Antonio. , Texas. I just hate paying for postage. I love the fabric. Don’t know when I will make something with it. I a just getting back into sew garments. I have been making quits and purses and home decor items. It’s going to take me something to figure out my size I. Ready to wear patters.
Great video. I’m tempted to make some of the wraps as presents for Christmas now I’ve seen it on you. It did look better on you than the mannequin. I love that dusky pink lining too 😍 Also, (sorry) I’m tempted by the Edie top and I was drawn to it as Edie is the name of our Cockerpoo pup. X
Great video Cheryl. I’m drawn to things called Evie or Eve after my mother. 😁I like the felted fabric and wanted to make a Sapporo coat last year. I don’t really need a coat😆
Hi, lovely video as always and some beautiful fabric, you have my mind working overtime I keep thinking about the Lola coat Nd I’m thinking about the red OMG 😍. Would love to see the Edie. I must post a picture of my dress made in some of your fabric and lined in some of the navy lining you showed it’s absolutely beautiful feels great. Thanks 😍
Jane Brettell thanks Jane, the red fabric is lovely. Not sure if it’s right for a Lola? Maybe something with a bit more drape? Would love to see your makes, thanks for your kind words 🌷
Hi Cheryl, loved this video thanks so much. I am fairly new to dressmaking and sewing so the idea of trying to make a coat brings me out in a cold sweat! Perhaps something to work towards though. I am just about to order that gorgeous tartan to make a skirt and going through my books think that the Delphine Skirt from Tilly’s ‘Love at first stitch’ would be perfect. The grain line studio do a good mini skirt pattern too it’s called the Moss Skirt. I haven’t made that but I did make the Scout Tee from them and the pattern and instructions were really good. I look forward to watching your videos every week, and always smile when I notice your little bits of Orla Kiely in the background as I am also a big fan! Thanks for the fab videos. Love Tamsyn
tamsynchurch ahh, what a lovely messsge, thank you Tamsyn. Coat making isn’t as tricky as you might think. Try an online class and it’ll give you the confidence to go step by step. The tartan is lovely, and great ideas for skirt patterns 👍🏻🌷
Lesley Jones Hi Lesley, I use the same needle for most sewing, just a good middle-of-the-road one from Schmetz 90/14 for my industrial machine. I use woven interfacing for coat making, my fave one is in my shop online 👍🏻🌷
Mini skirt : funny, I recently looked for mini skirt patterns, too, because I want to make some for winter in wool and corderoy. It was incredibly hard to find patterns, that I liked. I found nothing with independent pattern companys. I ended up downloading No. 123 from Burda Style 12/2010 also baught two vintage Burda patterns on eBay : Burda 3338 and Burda Young & Easy 3629. The Erin skirt from Sew over it is a great pattern, though, but I already have two of them and I want something not so tight.
Thank you Cheryl for this video! Perfect timing as I'm thinking of giving a trench coat a go this year. do you happen to have any recommendations for a good trench with a hood?
Hi Sheryl love your videos. I’m new to sewing I’ve tried the Bibi shirt and a box top so far and I love it do you post to Ireland? And I have to say as fello curly haired girl I’d love to know what you put in your hair mine is sooo frizzy.
Carol Ryan thanks Carol 💖 I do post to Ireland, the info is on my site at stitchybee.co.uk under ‘delivery’. Ha, I spent years trying every hair product, there’s a list of what I use in the description box on here.
Melton is meant to have a cotton weft but no synthetics! I've seen 90 10 wool-viscose blend and that's about the limit of acceptability. I hate that everything has polyester and acrylic now.
I keep meaning to make a coat and bought some fabric years ago, but worried I won't be able to get the structure right as don't want it to look floppy.
Have a go. You can always add interlining to add a little structure. I think Alison Smith has made a video on Craftsy about adding structure to clothes, it might help. 🌷I find online courses are great to learn from and go at your own pace.
i was expecting to see fabrics with high percentage of wool. Personally, I prefer fabrics with natural fibers because they wear better, causing fewer transpiration and get older better. The issue with dry cleaning is not important since most of the wool/natural fibers are self-cleaning standing in the fresh air or even early morning sun against smoking odors, etc. I am a middle age woman with hot flashes that get worse wenn I wear polyester, I feel as I were wearing a pure plastic piece. Perhaps, you could include such fabrics in your shop, I want to buy from you.
Totally agree, I think I'm entering that phase myself and everything is too warm. I have some great wool fabrics coming soon and will show them when they arrive. The new fabrics are really high tech though and feel lovely on, but I agree, I'll make sure I stock some natural fibres too. Thanks for following me all his time 🌷
Hi Michelle, I don't think so but the best thing is to research wholesale suppliers in the U.S. I ship Worldwide though if you want a smaller quantity.
Love that fabric, and the stretch denim is great for jeans!!!
thanks Jeanette 🌷
Love watching your videos and very much look forward to seeing your new studio. 😊
thanks Tina, I'll give you all a tour when I get the keys 😊
Oh lovely coat fabric Cheryl. Thanks for the info on the melton wool, v helpful. I do love the navy cotton. Just gorgeous. Thanks as always for sharing xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to show all these gorgeous fabrics, and explaining a little about them!

thanks Christine, glad I helped 🌷
You are so enthusiastic! All the fabrics I have ordered from you are beautiful. 💖
awww, thanks Monique, I love what I do 🌷
I always love and appreciate your videos!! Thank you for all your hard work.
thanks Lesley, it's amazing how fast the weeks whizz by before it's time for another video. I love making them though, thank you for your kindness.😊
Well you won't be surprised to hear I love all of your fabrics as usual. Fantastic news that you are getting a bigger space!! Thank you for sharing :-) x
thanks Gaynor, needs must, I keep bumping into my cutting tables ha ha.x

thank you Christine, have a great day too 🌷
Thank you for the fabric options and ideas! Always enjoy your videos. Look forward to seeing your new sewing space..
Thanks Loriann 🌷

thanks a great idea Lisa, and no need to do up the buttons either as they are just a feature, so simple to pop over your head.🌷
Hi Sheryl. I really enjoyed the info on coating fabrics. I made 3 coatigans last year in knit boucle and love them. One red, one teal and one powder blue. This year I am making one in chocolate brown. Your crew boucle is drop dead gorgeous. Have a lovely day.
thanks Karen, wow your coatigans sound fab, I'm really into them at the mo. 🌷Which pattern did you use?
Love the idea of your mustard Erin skirt and those brown buttons would be fab! I’ve made two Erins and they were both super quick makes, you’ll be done in no time.
thanks Sarah, I just need to get stuck in 😊 Love your makes, you're brilliant.x

Need a Chanel style jacket in Ivory now trimmed in navy. Thanks for the inspo! Love you videos.
Georgina Morgan fab idea to trim with navy 👌🏻 Thank you for your kind words 🌷

thanks Elaine, aww, don't be sorry, Edie is a fab name for a dog.x The raps are great pressies, and are nice and quick too. Enjoy 🌷
Great video Cheryl. I’m drawn to things called Evie or Eve after my mother. 😁I like the felted fabric and wanted to make a Sapporo coat last year. I don’t really need a coat😆

As ususal beautiful fabric so inspirational, haven't the time to make all that I like
thanks Julia, you and me both :-)
What needles do you use for a wool. Also do you need an special interfacing. I’m making the sew over it cocoon coat. Many thanks for your help

that's great thank you so much 🌷 I'll go and have a look at those.
Love the cape. I wonder if it would lay better at the points if you did some top stitching all the way around the outer edge about an inch in.
thanks Suzanne, yes you're absolutely right. I need to settle down in front of the TV and do a bit of tacking I think.😊
Thank you Cheryl for this video! Perfect timing as I'm thinking of giving a trench coat a go this year. do you happen to have any recommendations for a good trench with a hood?
thanks Sonia, ooh I haven't come across a trench pattern with a hood, but what a great idea. If I spot one I'll let you know 🌷
