There is no real time that concrete dries. Depends on the mix. Some dry up faster than others. Some could set in 5 minutes and some could set in over an hour just depends on the mix your dealing with
Well, not sure I can answer your question completely, but I would think you would want to wait at least 30 days to get as much compressive strength as possible. - Jason
@@WagnerMetersMain would it not be easier to cut it when it's soft? I'll be using a pot to get a circular mould shape, then cut it into Cresent. How many days does it stay soft until?
John: Thanks for the question. In many garage floors, vapor retarders weren’t used because the original space wasn’t intended for a “finished” floor. In this case, “drying” the floor would only be temporary because there is no separation between the bottom of the slab and the soil, making for continuous moisture intrusion into the slab. When looking for products to use on the floor, have discussions with the manufactures to ensure their products will accept high moisture levels. Good luck. Jason
I'm making a frog tank and want to apply pond sealer to the cement but unsure how long I should wait? The pond sealer is water based but the primer is not.🤔
@@WagnerMetersMain it says to wait for the cement to SET before applying the first coat. To my understanding cement sets within hour's but to CURE is as you said, 28 day's. I live in Arizona the humidity here is very low with dry heat, so I have 4 in. of 3,000 PSI concrete. How long does it cure top park a 20.6 ft trailer?
Curing and drying are two different things and I would recommend you consult the concrete supplier. I would guess they will say at least 30 days. Thanks, Jason S.
my cement mix dries out very fast. regular cement but i feel the mix is wrong. however i cannot see how. 3-1 and 4-1 mix. Foor wall and floor concrete. depending what i am doing. I will mix up normally get it wet as per normal. It just feels like the sand is not holding the water enough. give it 5 mins and its nolonger wet ish but more like powder finished sand. any thoughts.
Jason, Thanks for the question. The best I can say is that it sounds like there is too much heat internal/external and/or the mix isn’t being “mixed” enough. Obviously these are just guesses, but at least a place to start. Jason
@@WagnerMetersMain sounds fairly good to me. It is about 30 degrees cel outside everyday. I dont have a wheel mixer o I am using and beating the mix with a drill on a stick (Metal). I don't want to expedite the process, I want to keep it wet long enough for one man (me) to pour 4 cubes myself and still float, edge, control crease, and stamp it.
In your specific situation, you are correct, but the real issue you speak of is the hardening (curing) of the concrete, not real drying as we are referring to in this video. I can guarantee, any of your stamped concrete would still be deemed excessively wet if there was a finished floor to be installed (wood, tile, vinyl, etc) over the top of the concrete.
“thinset” and other types of products of this nature are highly engineered and the manufacturer’s have done extensive testing on drying times prior to installation. I recommend you check with the “thinset” manufacturer for this information. Good luck.
Sean, If you are just looking at structural strength and not drying to apply some type of coating or finish, you would expect 80% or more of the necessary compressive strength in 28 days. You could probably pay more to get a mix that would develop strength quicker. Jason
Rajat: The additional water could increase drying time (not curing time), increase porosity, and decrease the overall strength of the concrete, depending on how much water is added to the slab. Thanks, Jason
There could possibly be many reasons, but a couple that come to mind area areas that have more moisture or areas that possible had more curing compound applied. This isn’t necessarily an uncommon problem that doesn’t remedy itself as the concrete dries.
Synonymous doesn’t mean synergistically or congruently. Poorly defined poorly explained. Not really accurate, close at times but i would call this explanation a fail. Stay with applying the floor, and not pouring the floor or explaining how the floor works.
