That brings back some memories from my childhood. Just a note: World Of Sport started in 1965 so it was 40 years old in 2005 but they were including the best ITV Sporting moments from the previous 50 years as ITV started in 1955 and was 50 years old. .
That was the real world of sports, a real sympathetic way to have a great saturday and with such a fantastic Dickie Davies. I bet he got the chance through this programme to pays his villa and much more. Furthermore it was very professionally worked, prepared and commented, from pucker to bizarre sports.
@@dvidclapperton yes also some Boxing a sports quiz I think not triangles another one few more bits n pieces early 90s he was faded out I reckon, then did abit of work for sky with Bobby Charlton , still alive respect to him
Omg AndyM , I’ve been looking for this for ever, thank you so much for taking the time, I’m so grateful, I grew up with this, the music and the sport are a much more effective time machine than any DeLorean could ever be, I’m basking in nostalgia as we speak and all the times n friends from the 70’s and 80’s live again, cheers mate 👍
Wonderful, when I wasn't playing football on Saturday sfternoons this was what I watched. In preference to BBC' s Grandstand, tho both were great! Thanks for the memories, 50 minutes of my life in a nutshell. Cheers
RIP Dickie Davies, Brian Moore, Jimmy Hill, Kent Walton, Reg Gutteridge, and WOS executive producer John Bromley and so many other contributors for bringing together the whole of London Weekend Television(ABC Television before them)and ITV Sport’s resources across the regional network to bring this brilliant and iconic programme to our screens every Saturday afternoon for twenty years.
I loved the fact world of sport showed sports ordinary people could do, banger racing and darts for example. You didn't need to be a millionaire to get involved. Just have access to a scrapyard or a pub
World of Sport brought the ITV Seven from York, Newmarket, Sandown, Newcastle, Epsom and Redcar. On the Ball, Athletics from Zurich, Brussels, London and Los Angeles,, Greyhound Racing from London, Speedway, Darts, Boxing, Half Time Soccer Round Up, Wrestling and the Results Service. Dickie Davies hosting the programme 68-85.
Yes maybe Jim Rosenta l Fred Dinnage sometimes stepped in, on the Ball with Saint n Greavsie unofficially started about 1982 maybe earlier certainly for live games, finals ,England games would say ,great memories
I remember the longer Results theme tune with fast action graphics, it would start with the World Of Sport S symbol clicking, then the music would start with numbers and sports graphics then there would be horses running round a racetrack and at the winning post, a zoom into the circle resulted in various baseball bats tennis bats football etc symbols flying outwards in the winning post circle then the word RESULTS in multiple would flash with clicking coming together.
What ? It was 20 years when it ended September 85 I think, great old programme , this was the era when annoying celebs got involved in documentaries shite comedians annoying TV presenters and the rest , the 20 year documentary is alot better on on TH-cam , no annoying shite
Excellent documentary, but about 5%-10% of the width has been cropped on this upload. There was a five-part upload many years ago which had the correct screen ratio.

He was still on ITV after World of Sport ended presenting snooker until 1989.

RIP Dickie absolute broadcasting legend 😥😥😥
Rest in Peace, Dickie Davies, just old enough to rem 1980s world of sport. Then racing moved to chan 4 and Grandstand took over on its own.
ITV Sport when World of Sport ended thirty three years ago covered snooker, darts, athletics, ice skating, gymnastics and boxing.
Pure old skool ITV.
For men of aged between 40 and 85 today Dickie Davies et al with mad wrestling etc is our Saturday afternoon heretige when Libpool played away...
Oh yes my friend, this takes me right back also
I loved the fact world of sport showed sports ordinary people could do, banger racing and darts for example. You didn't need to be a millionaire to get involved. Just have access to a scrapyard or a pub
Next year there will be an ITV7 channel.
The days when ITV7 did not indicate the name of a TV channel.

From Redcar and Salisbury was part of the great heritage of World of Sport. How often did the BBC horse racing coverage come from a lesser racecourse?
Yes maybe Jim Rosenta l Fred Dinnage sometimes stepped in, on the Ball with Saint n Greavsie unofficially started about 1982 maybe earlier certainly for live games, finals ,England games would say ,great memories

RIP Dickie Davies aka Saturday afternoon
iam from the states and that was pretty cool too watch looks like england version of abc sports wide world of sports on sats here in the states
The attractive looking typists would have been referenced in my stories especially in the days before we had laptops and tablets.
RIP Dickie
Saint and Greavsie and Results Service.

Nowadays we have cooking shows in this time slot. smh...
Yes it's terrible today. Cooking shows are not in the same league as World of Sport and Grandstand.
Richard sounded better

Every house 🏡 I walk past 🤼♂️ Wrestling is on.
I don't remember the early days of Eamonn Andrews presenting the show.
Is there any clips?
Somebody likes ELO TOO much. It dominates too much
