    Is there a specific year thats the ideal version for the aw11?

      Yeah get the ones from 87-89 they are also called Mk1b

      Any of them are fine!!! Some may have the oil cooler (sienna tow package) which is a plus and very sort after but they are a bit more pricey. other than that they are pretty much the same thing. Some early year 2gr didnt have the metal vvti lines which is one of the weak points but these are offer by Toyota for about $150 which you could buy and swap. What am trying to say is if you find a good complete motor at a good price then go for it. Of course I preferred later years just because they most likely have lower mileage.
      But they all fit the AW11 with a bit of hammering and a ton of Cushing around.
