I hope you don’t mind me giving you advice, as someone who started learning Chinese a year and a bit ago,- the sooner you get comfortable reading and using characters, even if typing, the better! I used pinyin for the first few months and I believe it slowed my progress as things became harder to review/recall! The characters are not as scary as they seem, indeed they’re your friends when it comes to learning! But whatever works of course.

I appreciate its scholarly approach, recognition of diversity within the tradition, and its clear presentation. What I also appreciate is that it rejects the worn convention in Western scholarship praising the speculative and philosophical 道家 over the “superstitious” 道教, and shows how the two valences of Daoism are integrally linked.
China has a very interesting modern history, which you could look into and share with us. For example how John Dewey and Western oligarchs came to China about 100 years ago and ended 5000 years of Chinese history by installing the Western education system. Did you never find it strange that China’s modern schools are exactly the same as all the other schools in the world?
