As an animator on the show, I think few people know that before Bluey was even an idea, most of production (animation, art direction, sound editing, voice acting and writing) already knew Joe personally as his university students, previous co-workers and his own family members. It's an intensely personal show and I was one of the few who didn't know Joe personally before coming on board but I was from the university he used to study and teach at. The show could not exist in any capacity without him, he's at the heart of it all.

Just a little point on Bluey being a cultural export. Our country is VERY proud of bluey being a global success, we had a whole ass "bluey day" in Melbourne a couple months ago. Stores decorated themselves with a bluey theme and on Bourke street there were people in bluey costumes.
I think this is all being done (at least partly) to get the public to feel a sort of patriotism to the show, so in the case that creative control does get taken away from its creator there will be massive australian uproar.

It felt cathartic for her to see parents have emotional intelligence and admitted that she got emotional over it.

I’m interested in how much ABC benefits from Bluey, because it seems like they only have viewership rights in three countries and nothing else. That seems like a shame, especially because the ABC is obviously much more supportive of the original creator’s vision than Disney. It’d be nice if they got more benefits which could be used to reinvest in more ABC Kids shows, particularly with the same studio if possible. I’m surprise the ABC doesn’t have more ways of showing films/TV overseas because I always see people asking to watch shows like Utopia which have gotten really popular online

While iView is great, not many people know about it as opposed to Netflix, Stan, or Disney+. It really is unfortunate,
If iView was more popular we'd definitely see more shows on the ABC go viral outside of Australia.
Disney just holds a monopoly on most media, so it's a tough market to work with.

The show helped my wife relax a bit about if and when the kiddo would walk, and that it was ok that she wasn't crawling in the normal way. Now we're so buried in bluey merch it's ridiculous, and it's the only kids show my kids like that I don't hate, and in fact enjoy. Which is listening to them and taking their play seriously, no matter how ridiculous or silly it was. Every media becomes dull the longer it exists, and to have Bluey, the biggest show out there, to have as their final lesson the importance and beauty of "endings" would be big for the current media landscape that is filled with carcasses of franchises that refuse to end, and for about everyone that has been spoiled by "never ending products" to learn to appreciate good things while they last.
    However,
I would also really like for that ending to be a more concrete thing, I can't see "The Sign" and "Surprise" as real endings for the series, half because there is no confirmation of wether this is really the end, so you can't really watch it "as" an ending. Then, very soon after the Sign was released, Matt released a video where he ridiculed adults for crying at the ending of the episode, unironically calling them weak and emotionally immature. Naturally he also angrily ranted about the part of the episode where one child character very casually and briefly mentions his two mums. I have a feeling that Matt Walsh and DW never actually really liked Bluey and always “had a feeling that the show was going to go w0k£ eventually, just like all other mainstream media”. 🙄 In any case, now we have the true intention behind Chip Chilla - to provide an “””non-w0k€””” alternative to Bluey for all of the homophobic parents out there.

Bluey and other animated shows created in Australia in recent times have done a lot in reviving an industry that was otherwise once not a huge sector such as animation. The government, which granted financial support into Bluey when it first started gaining traction, has seen the potential of it and has been giving grants/loans to studios and start-ups looking to get their animations going and has invested a lot into universities for animation - as well as taking up a part of production costs for overseas studios that end up making films in Australia (and you'd be surprised to know how many of the Hollywood-based films you see today are shot/made in Australia). This means those who want to pursue animation, or anything in film, have a higher chance at gaining a foothold in the industry and has attracted foreign investment into the economy like never before.

One idea I’ve heard for keeping the show alive was having the characters grow up with the audience. As Bluey’s target audience grows up, so do the characters! It’s an interesting concept and it could be interesting to see Ludo tackle more mature topics as Bluey and Bingo become teenagers

Yoo Bluey is great. great lessons, for both kids and parents. the parents one are sometimes just a look or a phrase that like in real life, means nothing to kids, but hits hard for adults. from being a appreciative of parents, to losing friends, to miscarriage, to be a first time mom... its crazy how all tose things can speak to everyone watching, no matter the age

I remember watching piece of an episode when I was checking up on my lil sis, wondering what kind of children's show slop it might be, I ended up watching an extra episode with her. Honestly you can feel the passion and like how real the characters can be.
It was like towards the middle of the pandemic. I also thought it was a Disney show.

things that I think are the reasons why Bluey became so famous (I love this show):
    - Actual GOOD animation and desings, seriously, a lot of adult and kids shows nowadays are just 3d animations with very simple, boring or ugly characters and animations ( that sometimes makes people lose interest in the show ) meanwhile Bluey have simple BUT beatiful and nice 2d characters and animations.
    - The show is relactable, for both kids and adults ( something that literally everyone noticed ).
    - The show talks about sensible topics ( death, pregnancy, lgbt+ ) in a EXCELENT way, idk exacly how they do that, but I almost never see someone complain about how the show treat these topics to kids.
    - It is not annoying for adults like a lot of kids show, it is actually really funny.
(if something is write wrong, its because english is not my first language)

I genuinely hope Brumm decides to stop making the show, some melange of upper middle managers of these companies go off the deep end Red Robin style from how bad they fumbled the bag, and that the general public learns about this whole story and are radicalized to the degree of initiating a bourgeois revolution that makes the US more social democratic than it currently is.

I've never been one to get my kids merchandise with characters because its all so expensive, but we love Bluey so much, that we have a blanket, stuffed animals, the whole 9 yards, and disney plus is definitely only being used for Bluey. I'll be sad to see it go, but it's just so great with everything, I've even picked up some good ways to be a better parent and that feels great. Best show to ever air in our house. ( Still love Scooby-Doo tho! )

  • @Bill30006

I really hope Joe Brumm doesn't sell it to disney, there is an extremely small chance they will capture even 1% of the soul that went into every episode unless they play it EXTREMELY well and don't hand it off to some rando. there's some stuff disney makes that's pretty good, like bad batch and clone wars, and xmen 97, but those are more action oriented than home adventures, and 2D story and emotion like owl house and amphibia have ended (with rumors that disney killed them rather than they ended naturally).
if he does stop being the main guy, what I want to have happen is a trusted animator takes over and potentially Joe is more of an advisor so he still has input. or maybe give it over to Jeff Marsh and Dan Povenmire, since they made a little show called PHINEAS AND FERB! (one of the greatest kids shows of all time) and they're coming back to make more, this would put a TON of pressure on those 2 since they have to revive a beloved show from the 2000s as well as as continue a current fan favorite.

I know this is old but, Bluey is such a good show. It’s not over stimulating like the majority of American shows, the actors are played by children so it’s more authentic/genuine, the stories are solid and not jumping from point to point, and it’s just a good show. As a 21, childless adult, I can happily say that this is my comfort show!

I think if-oops let me restate that, I think WHEN Bluey returns from its hiatus, regardless of who has creative control, it will have competition. Chip Chilla, being a political ripoff, doesn't count in my book, but eventually, some show, regardless of nation or whether it's on CN or PBS Kids, will figure out the secret formula and be a hit without ripping off the show. It will be to Bluey how Sesame Street to Mister Rogers, (insert slice of life sitcom) to Simpsons, Spongebob to Arthur you get the point. I think there will be tons of Bluey-esque shows in the following years as Bluey became a very viral hit in the 2nd half of 2022, so by the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year, we should see some Bluey-inspired shows, most bad, but some good(it takes 2-3 years to make a cartoon). I only have PBS Kids(no cable) so hopefully they make the next Bluey. But for now, we'll see.
With this being said, I think Brumm needs to know this, or at least be prepared for the event that a cool new kid comes to town. Not only does he need to evaluate what direction to go, but how to stay ahead of the game.

At some point we'll have another PBS revolution, where selling our children's childhoods as a commodity is treated as taboo. It's kind of strange to think shows like Peppa Pig and Bluey, once small-time animator's passion projects, are now being sold and traded for the likes of $4b. At least they aren't straight up propaganda or baby funtime sensory crap. If kids shows like these are seen as this valuable monetarily, I'm not sure what that says about anything in that sphere.
