I’m deep cleaning my bathroom and watching this after 3 hours of cleaning. I’ve already binge watched the whole series before this marathon, but it’s so good
Edit: Don’t know who cares, but 10 hours later and my bathroom is so nice looking! I’ve never cleaned to this extent before and I’m proud of myself. I’m watching this while resting and some clothes wash/dry so I can get clean and into some clean clothes.

This game has many flaws, but Arin is clearly being exceptionally bad on purpose for content. That's what pissed everyone off.
I'm watching this series to cope with the trauma of never beating this game on the Dreamcast back in 2002. Good to know I was not alone in my agony of endless glitchy defeats
I was a sophomore in college when this came out. This is probably my most favorite playthrough they have ever done. So many good times and jokes ❤

What i just now realized is why would chaos need a sewer grate to dissapear through in the beginning but can just appear and disappear wherever he likes the rest of the game?

Today I witnessed Arin screw up over 10 ways I didn't know it was possible to screw up in this game lol.

I now this is old but I can't believe the editor cut out the knuckles 'Rap Breakdown'
The fishing is still legendary. Also I love how Arin learns the exact same lesson about shards inside enemies, like, four times in a row during the Knuckles segment before actually *_learning,_* too late, that it's a thing that the game does.
Also the shard being inside an enemy is very rare just because of how many possible locations they can spawn so the fact that it happened in every level was like the game and universe saying "Here. Don't you see!?"
Coming back again to watch this. In the years this LP has existed, i have a theory on why SA was released in this state. This is going to be a longer comment from a grizzled OG mega drive sonic fan, but i have good context i think. Tl;dr at the bottom.
Later in the series Danny says he feels like Sonic Team took their time making SA for a year expecting to have another year to finish development, but Sega cut the deadline short. I think Danny is wrong but i don't blame him. Sega has a history of doing that, and the game just kinda looks that way. But i think it's way more complicated.
SA went into prototyping well before the dreamcast was released. There's debate over whether Sega always intended for SA to release on the dreamcast, but i lean in the direction of thinking that's not the case. There are assets left over, as well as Sega internal documents and marketing mockups, that to me suggest the original intention was a Saturn release.
However, i think two things happened during development that caused Sega to change directions.
First is i think Sonic Team asked for it. Sonic Xtreme, besides just looking awful to play, was ultimately scrapped because of hardware limitations. And SA is more ambitious than SXT ever hoped to be, so i wouldn't be surprised if senior developers told Sega that their initial ideas for SA would have to be seriously scaled back without a hardware upgrade.
Second is Sega saw the state the Saturn as a platform was in by the time SA was in development. By that point, sales for the console had really slumped, it had gained a reputation for being hard to develop for because of the whole quads thing, and it was seen in gaming culture as a second choice. I think Sega decided that SA development would shift to a dreamcast release. It would make sense to me to do that.
Then the porting happened, and i think that's where it went wrong. Shifting a game to release for an unreleased console mid development has become a touch of death for a lot of developers. There's a lot of reasons why, such as data structure incompatibilities which was definitely at play in this case because they were going from quads in 3d models on the Saturn to triangles on the dreamcast, and that one in particular is a huge red flag because it means you either have to double the poly count to convert one quad into two triangles, or you have to redo the models from scratch.
But i think the biggest reason it is the touch of death is because it's a nightmare trying to port something while you're actively developing the dang thing. It would be like trying to write a day one patch without knowing what the unpatched day one release code will be. Some producers can pull something like that off, those ones are the exception, but even those uber developers would try to get reassigned to a different project and ask they not be credited on the final release. There are so many examples of how hardware shifts can destroy a game, like how Duke Nukem Forever was kept in development hell as the IP kept changing hands and hardware.
tl;dr, they spent two years working diligently to make a good game, realized halfway through they needed a hardware upgrade, and made the rookie but easy to make mistake of shifting hardware mid development
They said they were gonna play every Sonic game and they kinda did it. Only 3 mainline games left if you don't count Sonic 4

I recall playing this as a kid. It was jank. Playing as sonic was easily the worst time. I was so happy anytime I didn't have to play as him. Except that fishing bit as big. That is what hell really is.

Knuckles was guarding the master emerald like his ancestors had before him. So in a way he was the chosen one but ig no one actually told him what he was protecting and no one expected it to just pop XD

I’m surprised at how well this series did as a whole as well as this “movie” upload. I hope they do more of these too because it’s so weirdly relaxing when it’s all at once 😂

by the way, on careful listening, the song (likely) first plays a bit before the 90 minute mark, and the line I hear as "somebody kill me!" first plays at 1:27:16. Less obscured, it sounds more like "somebody sue me!" here

I'll never get tired of Arin failing to understand that the emeralds are placed randomly in the knuckles stages, so there literally cannot be a walkthrough.
It's more of a set pattern to make it more challenging to find

The Big the cat episodes from this series will always be some of my all time favorite. I had just gotten my tonsils out and was high on painkillers watching Arin trying to catch Froggy, I choked on tapioca pudding so many times that week.

The Nile is also the only river that flows north, so no Dan, it does not "deposit in a lake in Nubia," it comes from Sudan and ends in the Mediterranean.
There are like two mistakes I can't forgive them for. They're both in Sonic games and this is one of them.
