Ally is fantastic, I bought it at $699 and haven't regretted it for a second. Being able to travel for work and have my steam and game pass library available is wonderful. I'm getting a Portal this week because of the convenience of being able to play anywhere in the house. @@PeteTalksTech could be because the Ally might be trying to do more stuff too. I use my ally to stream my pc with moonlight, playstion with chiaki, and xbox game pass best of all worlds. The ally using sunshine and moonlight is great for 120hz max graphics gaming...
I think it's a fair comparison if you're only comparing the remote play feature itself... Or in this case, the speakers and display, which I think is fair but overall they're very different products and should not be compared beyond that... Otherwise might as well compare the Ally to a TV!! Or compare the Ally to a Dualsense... The real comparison should be ROG Ally Vs PS5!!
I respect your opinion Nightwing, but I think there IS merit in comparing SOME aspects like the speakers, comfort and display for example. I think it’s pretty clear that comparing CHIAKI remote play verses remote play on the PS Play is a very fair comparison - and of course comparing the PS Portal to games installed NATIVELY on the Ally would NOT be fair at all 👍
The Ally is great but Chiaki just be having too much artifacting, and it’s not even network related. But hey it’s a free app, so I don’t complain too much. Honestly I just wish the official PS Remote Play app worked natively with the Ally controls and you could stream higher than 720P resolution.

I find certain games blur worse than others on the Portal - games with smaller objects in like the individual players on the pitch in FC24 for example…
On your video, PS Portal seems to play more flawlessly than for me. When I'm playing Crash Bandicoot 4, I have a lot of micro lags. The saddest thing is that after that I tried to re-open Chiaki on Rog Ally and it works better. I think I just dropped 220 euros on trash. Somebody have tips than can help me run better the PS Portal? To save time : My PS5 is wired on Ethernet, I have a strong Wifi connection according to tests I ran (I say it again, but I have nearly no lags on Chiaki and I have it on PS Portal), and my Wifi network is 5 Ghz, I just checked than on my laptop in the options. Thank you for advance, it's a S.O.S. 😂
Very Weird David! That's what I would have suggested - try changing 2.4hz or 5hz on your router... And lags on Crash Bandicoot, that's the LAST game you want lags on, it's too brutal on flawless performance 😂😂
@@PeteTalksTech I looked at my box administrator panel and it says to me that my Portal is connected on 5Ghz network, so it should be working perfectly. I definitely choose rog ally because when i don't want to play ps5, i have options to play xbox and pc plus emulators such as for Nintendo switch. Just no comparison. Now for ps5 alone ofcourse portal is better.
I have them both, and I believe that the portal is going to be better than the Ally when it comes to PlayStation remote play, because is a PlayStation accessory . Now when it comes for everything else the ROG Ally hands down
At glance it does seem like it! But I wonder why? What difference in hardware or software is there to make the PS portal a better option for remote play?
@@wizy0wazy it has no internal hardware or software, it’s power by your PS5 and that’s the reason it will run any PlayStation game from psn library better then an ally, because is a PlayStation product and they are making sure for you to get the best out of a streaming device. And keep on mind is not a console is an accessory. I was skeptical about it too till I got one in my hands and I saw different. Now I use my ROG Ally for emulator’s, and Xbox live. But hands down on the portal for PlayStation games only that was it meant for. But I get what you are saying.
@@angel925100 I've checked, there seems no difference. The fact the product is labeled Playstation does not mean it'll perform better on remote play with a PS5. I've put my iPhone in gaming mode and used the remote play app over Wi-Fi 6 with the ps5 connected to the router via Lan cable and it legit feels like my ps5 is hooked up directly to the phone and have played for a couple hours with 0 artifacts.
I use my ally to stream my pc with moonlight, playstion with chiaki, and xbox game pass best of all worlds. The ally using sunshine and moonlight is great for 120hz max graphics gaming...
what are we comparing exactly?
these are two *completely* different devices lol
I think it's a fair comparison if you're only comparing the remote play feature itself... Or in this case, the speakers and display, which I think is fair but overall they're very different products and should not be compared beyond that...
Otherwise might as well compare the Ally to a TV!! Or compare the Ally to a Dualsense...
The real comparison should be ROG Ally Vs PS5!!
I respect your opinion Nightwing, but I think there IS merit in comparing SOME aspects like the speakers, comfort and display for example.
I think it’s pretty clear that comparing CHIAKI remote play verses remote play on the PS Play is a very fair comparison - and of course comparing the PS Portal to games installed NATIVELY on the Ally would NOT be fair at all 👍
I didn't see any artifacting on my rog ally
The Ally is great but Chiaki just be having too much artifacting, and it’s not even network related. But hey it’s a free app, so I don’t complain too much. Honestly I just wish the official PS Remote Play app worked natively with the Ally controls and you could stream higher than 720P resolution.
This version of chiaki I setup in the vid below has worked really well for me so far:
ROG Ally X: PS Remote Play (Chiaki) Setup Guide in 8 Easy Steps

There’s a newer app which is paid but has a free trial called PSPlay which I highly recommend you checking out it’s amazing!

Portal looked and sounded way better. Idk if the video compressed the sound for the other device but it sounded muffled
Compare Rog Ally at 8:00 and Portal at 8:30. Rog Ally sounds deeper and all around good sound. Portal sounds high pitched and shallow all around.
Portal speaker are trash. If you hear the rog ally in person the peakers are fantastic!! Good sound and great 3d effect 🔥🔥
Motion Blur IS horrible on my portal (and on your video!)
On chiaki it's perfect...
Maybe I had a dysfonctional device, so I should make a change? Vert very strange.
Just now I noticed a passage on Crash Bandicoot 4 with a lot of effects : the frame rate drops each time on Portal, not on the Rog Ally. I'm very sad because I prefer the screen and the controller on Portal for ps5 games
The Playstation Portal looks great in this comparison.💜
Thanks Violet, it absolutely is even better than I and many were anticipating, a must have if you do a LOT of PS5 remote playing! 🤩🙌
@@PeteTalksTech i pre ordered mine. We in Australia don't get it until February 2nd.
It looks gorgeous! It's a shame you are just game streaming like you can do from you phone or computer already
@@viciousviolet3783not til Feb, yikes! 😮
@@PeteTalksTech yep. I was laughing because people were complaining about get there Portals a day after release date. I was like geese at lease you don't have to wait until February. Quite complaining lol.
If tweaked the ally with chiaki could surpass the Playstation portal
Any way to stop stutters on chikai?
So happy I pre-ordered
Awesome, you’ll LOVE it Kingy! 🙌
You clearly didnt have the rog ally on the same 1080 settings ... iv watched the exact same scene... and it looks so kuch better... (spider man that is)
I turn haptics off every time anyway . Really find it gimmicky, annoys me.
Is that a stuck pixel in the upper right corner? And what is the other blemish on the screen? We got a Portal and it also has a stuck pixel, but on mine it's in the lower right corner.
Ahh good point Betep, I’ll double check!!
This video shows exactly why I hate Chiaki, after so many trys and changing settings, I couldn't make that thing work without issues
I definitely choose rog ally because when i don't want to play ps5, i have options to play xbox and pc plus emulators such as for Nintendo switch. Just no comparison. Now for ps5 alone ofcourse portal is better.
Great points Platinum! 🙌
Awesome comparison. I want to see steam deck chiaki vs rog chiaki vs ps portal.
Stay tuned for an upcoming vid on this 👀
I have them both, and I believe that the portal is going to be better than the Ally when it comes to PlayStation remote play, because is a PlayStation accessory . Now when it comes for everything else the ROG Ally hands down
GREAT opinion Angel! 🙌
The portal uses wifi 5, and the software its running does not seem to improve the latency over other products.
I was wondering to buy this, I have a steamdeck already. Estetics it looks good, haptic feedback on controller, better screen quality and better battery life is what you get. Rest of the experience will be the same. I'm passing but still wouldn't mind getting it one day.
Enjoy you're games!
@@wizy0wazythe ps portal is not a stand alone device lol its a playstation controller… with a screen. Rog ALLY is a gaming pc in a handheld it can do Alot more then a playsation can in every aspect except for raw power.
😅😅😅 I love my PS portable.. tested out CoD at work and it was ok and single player games was great and Diablo 4 was great too
Awesome Dynamite! 🙌
I mean, the ROG Ally can play games natively on its own. PS portal can only stream from a PS5. So the ROG ally is the clear winner because of that alone.
Great video!!! The speakers are definitely better on the Ally. Colors also seem more vibrant on the Ally, but the connection at times was smoother on the Portal. This is to be expected since it is a Sony device. Not enough to make me get a Portal with already owning an Ally. Maybe in the future, but not now at full price.
Chiaki deleted itself from my Ally, this shit keeps happening and I can’t even fucking return it now lol
Have not tried Chiaki on my Ally yet and don't have a Portal, but the Portal was designed for this, but what else can it do? Steam? No. Emulation? No. Windows PC?... Portal is a one trick pony while the Ally can do lots of things, though it may not be the best any of it. The Vita should have been able to stream PS5 but Sony couldn't allow that.
Great points DCX! In fact in one my latest vids I show how the Portal can’t even beat Chiaki in the ONLY THING it can do! 👇
th-cam.com/video/JDEtEpiyIZo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UA18SBZSGYNcQjuY
I LOVE the colours on the Portal! The screen looks awesome and the colours pop it almost looks like an Oled screen!
You’re absolutely right, it does! 🙌
I have been using Chiaki with ROG Ally and haven’t picked up the portal yet since I wanted to wait for reviews before buying. For me it was unstable without connecting my ROG Ally with Ethernet. It was pretty good after that, but without the dual sense features I’d like to use the portal instead.
You’re right Mithos, the Duel Sense DO take the Portal to the next level!
Dude Chakai compared to the PORTAL is great I had the portal had to return it was so bad
The PS portal is crap it's not mobile as people think it is if you want to go on the move you will be lucky to use it has most companies use a web address where you have got to accept the terms of their network which you have not got on the PS portal so you can't use it basically it's a brick
you have a ally and only game streaming when it can play the game native...
Why does my screen brightness go all the way up when I watch your videos? That’s awful
Sounds like a glitch on your device 🤷
playing astros playground without dualsense haptics isn't the same
Rog Ally is a beast
Yup! 🤩
Do not forget that rog ally is literally PC
I paid £100 more and got a steam deck instead
Playstation portal ❤❤🔥🔥🔥
Yes! 🔥❤️🔥
Just remote play to a phone....
PS button should've been on the right side instead.
Nah, I'm left handed and prefer it right where it is lol.
@@rocky047586 😊 that's good but most peeps are righties so hehe.
@@volcalstone too bad then lol. It wouldn't have bothered me if it was on the right side though. I'm used to it haha.
@@rocky047586I’m a rightie and I don’t care either way
@@rivec33 that's because you're cool! Haha.
There is no comparison in my opinion.
The portal is a waste of a purchase and way to expensive
is dumb comparison actually because he compare controller with screen with standalone handheld PC, he forget ps portal also need ps5 so the better comparison should be ps5 vs rog ALLY
Portal is not a waste of purchase you just don't get it and not the targeted market. I always play remote play with my phone and I want this because of bigger screen and better controls than my gamesir x2 pro. I have also Ipad here but I can't use it while laying in my bed this much better option.
@@conradofarina5739I also use my smartphone with Gamesir X2 Pro for almost every day 😂😂😂
I think we are the target market 😂
Its not that waste of money tho since its only 200 and not like 1000 but I rather stick with my phone any way everyone has opinion
@@conradofarina5739what am I disappointed is that it wasn't a console like a new PlayStation Vita or psp remote play is something ur phone can do but the bigger screen and ps5 controller which I say is worth 200 if your looking for a better remote play device
