Model(s) by modeler Jim Irwin and presented/reviewed at the May 29, 2019 meeting of the Tacoma Green Dragons, International Plastic Modelers' Society (IPMS).
Like most kids, I bought and built one of these when it first came out. The main thing I was impressed with is Monogram actually engineered their model to have correctly wing folding hinges that swing the wings back like the real ones. Then I bought the Accurate Miniatures kit, and struggled through it (I have photos when needed). After having to extensively and, file, and fit to get the over-engineered cockpit interior to allow the fuselage haves to close, and then you can't see any of the work you did. Then there was the weird turret installation that took me nearly half of a day to figure out, since they provided no diagrams. If I am asked to build another 1/48 avenger, it would be another Monogram kit. The basic interior is more then enough.
Nice job!! I love my old Monogram kits. Yeah the inside detail is low, they have no recessed panel lines. But the thick plastic and whatever detail they have is crisp. And just fun to build!!
One of the most golden of the golden oldies. The only negative mark is that the torpedo bay doors aren't accurate. The real ones were of a bi-fold design.
NICE MODEL KIT......! Your Avenger IS A JEWEL..! .I do not know the reason why that there is no other 15 dollars 1/48 Avenger kit.... on the market, Revell-MONOGRAM is no longer, and the other ones are TOO EXPENSIVE...!! ..Brands like Accurate Miniatures, HOBBY BOSS,..even ACADEMY....., I prefer the older molds with almost nothing interior details...'cause to me is very silly to build high interior detailing.....that no one will see...once the model is enterely built....!
That turned out great. For a Monogram kit it looks great. Id love to know how you managed the open canopy. The grey over white colour scheme is fantastic. I have three of this model. I still think it's a good kit just lacks details. But with a good paint job the completed kit is excellent. However I do have the accurate miniatures versions three of the Flight 19 lost in The Bermuda Triangle with decals to do all five Aircraft and the Bunker Hill version and the Hobbyboss release. But still like the revel Monogram kit. You've done a great job on that.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
