- I built a new workshop set for the intermediate lessons at Jamaica Plain. Gave it a schoolhouse theme using the barn structures from Far Harbor. Let me know what you guys think.

I found a robot model kit but didn't want to get rid of the box so I dragged it all the way from Hugo's hole to sanctuary
That's awesome. I'll have to remember to try that.
Skooled Zone though it sounds like a long walk it surprisingly took like 10 or so minutes
I appreciate your content bro, years later and I'm STILL loving, enjoying and appreciate this game. Glad I ran into your channel and your Fallout content, I'm learning new things because of you, thanks! The whole schoolhouse theme is awesome!! 💯
You never fail to please
👊
Honestly dude, I play with mods but recently you have given me some inspiration to play without mods. Even if you were building with mods you give off a cool chill vibe, you seem really enthusiastic doing this stuff and it seems like you really enjoy doing this. Keep doing what your doing man, you got me subbed to you now.
Also strange name, but I think a clever name would be Missile Launcher for the cat. Its completely unexpected.
I appreciate it Jose. So glad I can be an inspiration. And yes, I really enjoy this. Can't wait to make it a full-time job. That would be the chillest vibe of all. Haha. Thanks for subbing and welcome to the Zone!
WOW!!! just WOW !!! Your attention to details are impeccable!! Keep up the great work Paul!!!
Hey thanks Jason!
Your defense spot looks like a face lol. The lights are eyes, the cement walls is the mouth, the poster is a creepy nose. The turrets are the teeth, and the spotlight is the third eye. If I saw that I wouldn't go near the building.
Haha. I can totally see that now. The lights for eyes even have eyebrows. LOL.
8:50 _"I had to have a cat"_ Me too! I do _Love_ cats. There's three in our house. I rent space in parents' big house. I have a cat. My parents own his brother. And my niece has their uncle. Okay... So I started out with one cat years ago. I let her go outdoors. She got pregnant. Not having money to spay/neuter cats, one of her kids got pregnant, and so on. Always having to give up cats, due to lack of money to care for them all. My parents took on. My sister took another and eventually gave him to my niece. They are all male and neutered, so no more kitties from that family.
Wow this looks really cool. Jamaica Plains is one of my favorite places to build. I have created a partial sky base there.
A sky base? Cool! You should submit that to the NMSC challenge: th-cam.com/video/5wONxYt-AFk/w-d-xo.htmlm35s
I love this series like no other ❤️❤️
Nexus, I strongly agree
Nexus I strongly, strongly agree
Nexus I strongly, strongly, strongly agree with you
Nexus strong needs human kindness MILLLK!!!
I internaly agree
Thats better than people make with mods
You're good i never believed that you didn't use mods with it(if someone's showed it to me)
You're the best :D
👍
Awwww. I was hoping this video was of you building the schoolhouse. I'm very late to the FO4 party, but your channel has helped me so much with learning the finer details of building. Thanks for all the lessons on wifi wiring so I never had to suffer through all the exposed wires in my builds.
Paul name the cat Mr Tibbles. The classroom looks great! Your still going to need a large open stage area to build/show us how to do things and the classroom might not have enough room. Great place for intros. Maybe the parking lot next to the new school house could be the build lot. I call dibs on the front aisle seat in the classroom!! Thanks for featuring me in the video, when I wrote that I really assumed it was something you planned already anyways. As for the loft place the lessons you teach up there kind of like a display. Might be hard to do but I'm sure you can pull something out of that great mind of yours. Could if nothing else fill it with objects like crates or what not as like a meter of how far through this lesson difficulty we are. IE: half full of crates or chests means we are half way till the next difficulty. Just some ideas. Stay awesome Paul!
Good job on working with what you've got in this build. I like the "scrappy but clean" approach with this build. One minor distraction was during your vocalized tour, the constant zooming in and out while walking around made it challenging to look at the finer details that you included. Or perhaps there was something that caught my eye that I couldn't focus in on. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work.
Haha, some of that blame goes to the sensitive console controller. But I do get excited sometimes and try and "point" by moving forward. I'll work on that.
nice Paul! turned out better than I thought. cant wait to see what you teach us here
yur 1 of the best no mods builders evar
Ty bro!
Nicely done. I noticed that the house next door has no doors. . . .If I remember correctly, those are the ones that don't let you snap doors to them in build mode (some settlements have them. some don't)? But it brings up a good point. There are two ways to place doors into doorways that don't allow snapping. And both of them can be accomplished with a pillar! Sometimes a rug.
Indeed Court. And my very next video is about the pillar glitch!
6 years later. Watching a lot of your videos. upstairs should be a library of some kind.
I truly love your self correction subtitles.
I imagine a "Home Improvement" spin off in the works haha, keep up the great work! 🏆
What if you call the cat Erwin, like the physicist Erwin Schrodinger...
Nice job with Jamaica Plain Schoolhouse... looks really cool.
You should call the cat Edison or Tesla to follow the school theme. You should put balls and other play things up there for all the school kids :). Also Paul doing a fantastic job on this series I really hope you keep it going for a long time. I keep telling people about this channel and they have started to follow you aswell.
Alexander Bell Edison is a great name! Definately fits the schoolhouse theme, great idea in my opinion!
Appreciate the kind words, and thanks for spreading the word Alexander!
I really admire your skill. I am working on Jamaica Plain right now and I could not for the life of me get the floors/walls to sit flush on the brick building with the house next to it the way you did. I like what I did, but man yours is just so much better!
Edit: Regarding the rubble pile in the workshop, I wound up creating a water purifier (medium) outside in a puddle then dragged it in and it sits on that pile perfectly functional.
Thanks Benson. Yeah, those rubble piles were a pain. I ended up just raising the floor up a little to cover them. That's why the workbench looks a little sunk. LOL.
Yesss! Another great video from the greatest channel! Really love this series and the channel!
👊
After watch just a few of these can’t wait to play FO4 again
Croop Manor would be a great set for the more advanced stuff, you can 100% restore it to look like a prewar building because the walls there have very lax clipping tolerance. Hangman's Alley would be another good spot, but camera work in there would be difficult.
i also noticed a pipe gun turret one of your earlier videos, how did you build those?
So many cool places to build, so little time. Haha. But to your question, the pipe gun turret you're talking about is actually a trap added from the Contraptions DLC.
Great video, Jamaica Plain is always a bear to make into anything, this is great! Love the idea for the turret's against the wall. I have a friend who carries things back across the Wasteland to decorate with. People bug her about it too.
Hey Jan! How are you?
Phoenix I'm doing great, you are the friend who also carries stuff back across the Wastes.
lol, yep I sure do! Although I carried one mannequin up, a boy one to the Outpost and he disappeared?!
Phoenix awww that sucks, who steals a persons mannequin boy?
Haha, Phoenix. I know exactly what you mean. I thought I was the only one who experienced the mysterious vanishing. I managed to record footage of it a while back and was going to include it in my next "glitchapalooza" video.
Paul, my mom and I were cat people back in the years and made ethnicities and voices for each cat, based on color and personality. Had a grey boy kitty we decided was from Jamaica and called him Grey Ting, with a Jamaican accent. Your cat looks like grey tabby and lives in Jamaica Plains, so, maybe... 😂😂😂
Really beautiful build. That building is the most frustrating part of Jamaica Plain.
Thanks man. Yeah, it was a bit of a beast.
Dude you're almost at 60,000 Congrats and thanks for the video 😁
My son suggested "Jangles" for the name of the 🐱. I just finished building at Jamaica Plain and thought I did about the best that could be done. Man, was I wrong. That's an awesome achievement for that location man. Thanks. Looking forward to more videos.
Great name , im gunna name my cat that at oberland station
Very cool. I am really enjoying this series, thank you.
Right on. Thanks for watching.
I REALLY liked this one, did you say that this area has buildings that cannot be scrapped, just like Sanctuary? I would love to see a No Mods Shop Class on how to make these ruined buildings useful again, if you have the time or maybe it is in a future class video? Do you get the cats via the cages? I am still working through the PS5 game version so have not gotten my perks / level high enough for some of this stuff. In the PC version I maxed out perks just to see what it allows be to build.
I might have to make a how to video on this place. As for the cats, yes they come from the cages: th-cam.com/video/fBTrerybj90/w-d-xo.html
@@SkooledZone
Yes, please show us how you built the walls and attic and glitched it into place . . . Did you attach the walls to the flooring? I'm attempting to emulate the build today and using your Tenpines build as a starting point. Thanks for figuring these builds out and sharing with us 🤙🤙🤙
I look forward to your videos every day
That's awesome. I wish I could crank them out everyday though. Someday soon, hopefully, when I can do TH-cam as my full time job. :)
That's a nice little build! Good job with the patience on moving the items too ha!
I was trying to add a new roof to the taffington boathouse which I guess is similar to this, I gave up after a few hours of trying to get my brain around it, however I have a feeling your next video may help me some how :)
Thanks man. And yes roofs are tough, but my next video should help.
I absolutely love your videos. I have watched pretty almost every single one of them in a weeks time period lol You make settlement building look so easy. You said you like to have a cat at every settlement in this video. How do you get a cat at your settlement that wasn't already there? Keep up the awesome work!!!
Thanks Stacie. That's really sweet of you! As for the cat, you can summon cats to your settlement using the cat cages from the Wasteland Workshop dlc. Same with dogs and other creatures if you want them.
Skooled Zone Awesome thank you!! The fallout series is my favorite game but watching your videos has made the game so much better for me as I have learned so many new things!!! I always get excited when i see a new video posted from you.
Now that I have finished the video hehe. I'm a cat lover as well and my Red Rocket base has 4 cats. In real life I have 2. Lucifer is my youngest he's named after the cat in Cinderella, who is my favorite Disney princess and Grim Brothers story. The other who is my oldest her named is Foxy. I have been trying to think of a clever name for yours, the mascot of the No-Mods Shop Class and I can't think of one other that naming her Mods. When I think of schools and their mascots, they aren't really the clever. Things like "The Bulldogs", "Panthers", "Killer Bees", and so forth. So it could just be The Skooled Zone, home of the Tabbies.
I think the cat can be called Julius, after Julius Ceasar, one of the greatest 'builders' ever.
Naaaah Hadrian. His wall was ingenious. And also Vespasian.
Its so simple to just pick up something you like in the world (like the picture frame)
But for some odd reason i never thought I could do that until your video I'm becoming a fan
You think outside the box
And pretty much every video inspires me to do more things
The cat's name should be "Bob" as in the kid's show Bob the Builder. And of course it is also a play on "bobcat".
Idea for the upper deck:
You could build simple decorations that would represent each of the lessons so far. Then at the end of each video you could look up at it and add annotations over them, so viewers could click directly on a video they missed or want to re-watch.
I wish TH-cam still allowed annotations, but they cut that feature for any new videos. Good idea though!
Something I discovered when attempting to rebuild the workshop building myself, I laid down the flooring and got the front, inner, and rear walls placed, but the brick rubble refused to let me place walls on the outer side. However, as I was playing around with pieces, I found that it would let me snap the prefab corner pieces into the brick rubble as long as it was looking at the front side of the building. Not sure if this is a kind of glitch to enable some kind of clipping, but thought I'd share anyway.
i love this, i want to build it right away
Very cute! Suggested name for the loft cat: Clever. :)
Very clever. ;)
Zone name him yardsticks haha my eyes are always scanning for another one haha great outro song
Can you do a technique to create a ladder up to the loft? (Non functional obviously). Maybe a few storage crate and boxes, and a nuke or vim machine facing a wall tucked in the back corner up there.
Good ideas! Just fyi, there's a really thin ladder in either the warehouse or scaffolding section that's functional. I can't remember which.
When someone asks you to define what best channel means ^^
Oh and also you should do the next one in the starlight drive in.
Really well done
Hey there which part of the school walls did you start with cause you know how hard it is to build on like this, curious to know so thanks for any help
David Young: I always have trouble building up ruined areas like this, too, so was hoping he would show how he built this, not just the finished product.
Are you still accepting Patreon for Skooled Zone, or would you prefer it on something else?
Thanks for asking ali! Patreon is a better deal for supporters, and they also take less of a cut from me than TH-cam.
I think it would be cool if you did this class on spectacle island, so there would be a lot of space.
MORE!!
I like it, another nicely done settlement.
😀
This account legendary
Paul you should name the cat cattastrophe or atom for the atom cats or some other cat pun
Bryce Stevens pun names are really fun and fit very well with the game.
you could turn it in to a sleeping loft or principle quarters
The rug tip/hack is not working on power armour upgrader
you should name the cat Vila...as in Bob Vila the original host of "This Old House"
Suggestion for the cats names. Ms. Hoover since you're picking up junk from all over the settlement. Also a reference to the school teacher on the Simpsons.
Name the cat mr. Fluffers
Nice work
aaww the cats! love it
When moving the workbench, move it to a floormat, with the arch of the floormat toward the wall, and the workbench will appear on floor level instead of partially buried in the ground
Unless I'm missing something, you can't move the red workbench in the vanilla game.
@@SkooledZone it's a ~ console trick: ~, click on workbench, go to floor mat, [workbench RefID].moveto [RefID of the floormat], enter
@@keithkeyser9546 Ah ok. I use a console, that's why.
@@SkooledZone ok, cool. I've been very happy with this trick once I got the steps down.
You should do a expert intro start on the expert level
I might just do that.
I think you should name the cat
McClaw or McPaw
Great videos BTW
LOVE the shows, actually i havent played fallout 4 yet and now Im dying to try it for the next few days. and this is what i loved about it, The Building Aspect. Well I would love to suggest a few more designs like a Dressing/Clothing sections, where students can change their regular outfits to Construction/Workshop School O.F. on the working tables or separate section of the room.
Second for the loft, great idea of putting crates or boxes there like as storage. maybe also put some Workshop projects, robot body parts or anything related in school workshops even at the school tables too. actually i was expecting it a little messy in a good way with previous projects lying around. Or maybe a robot standing in front of the podium, if u call it :) as an assistant teacher.
Now for the pet cat, i was thinking of adding planks/beams in the ceiling through the room to make it lore not like a ceiling just hanging in the middle of the room :) also so that the cat can walk across and around the planks as well. well i dont know if it has that feature.
Anyway thank you for all of this tutorials and im proud to say i would be happy to be a student and a graduate of your No Mods Shop Class. Peace!
Hi Hannah, thanks for the awesome comment. You'll love the building aspect of Fallout 4. It's like the college level equivalent of Minecraft. It really allows your creativity to shine through.
Great ideas for the schoolhouse. I actually tried to do that catwalk thing but the cat always sticks very close to the cat bowl you place down, so it doesn't wander off too much. There's a cat at a settlement called Covenant that actually wanders all over the place, but that's a unique cat. I like all your other ideas, through and I'll try working them into future videos. 👌
I did not know you could build there there are so many places I dunno where you could build just like bunker hill
I swear I didn't liked my own comment
Call the cat 'Jamaica' 😎....Ps love your vids 😘
I just love your smiley way to speak, ..
😄
Put hard hats on the hat stand
Gavin Pennington great idea, hard to do but yea we need more hard hats. Paul put a pink one on my desk the front aisle seat lol!
Indeed a great idea Gavin. I originally tried to do that but it doesn't have a real hook (they just fall off). But I made a shelf for them in my next video. And Saraphiene, if you know where to find a pink one, I'll definitely put it on the front desk for you. Hehe. All I've found are green and white ones.
Skooled Zone There are mining helmets in pink, orange, red, white, black, green and two shades of blue. Whenever I go to Dunwich Borers I come back with a whole rainbow of mining helmets (which are essentially hard hats with fancy lights). Consider using those?
Skooled Zone also you can make them different colors of hats in an armor workbench
Cort | Cool idea! I gave it a try and you can't actually change the color of the hard hat but it looks like you can change the color of the light for the mining hat which is pretty cool. I changed MacCready's light to purple. LOL.
Patrik | Thanks for the reminder. I went back to Dunwich and came back with a "rainbow of mining helmets." =)
400th view! I'm super pumped because I recently got the season pass and now I can actually do what you do in your vids! Can you try to make an arena from the wasteland workshop dlc? Like explain how to transport all of the creatures and good use of traps?
I wasn't originally going to cover that in this series, but I might add that to the list near the end. Stay tuned!
damn I just turned this settlment into a walled trading fortress, nice oh and skool can you make a vid on how to postion items outside of workshop mode
Walled trading fortress sounds cool too. What do you mean by "outside of workshop" mode? If you mean like junk items, that's one of the 5 tips in this video: th-cam.com/video/sDza5oblD1g/w-d-xo.html
Skooled Zone yes okay thanks
Jamaica Plains. This brings back memories. It was the first real settlement I built and also where I first learned the trick you mention with the picture frames. I realized it because they are conveniently located so close. I later learned to drag caps stashes, bobby pin boxes, and unopened model kits (like Cort Foss mentioned below) back to settlements. I hate to think how many caps stashes and pictures I wasted early in the game before I learned.
If anyone is interested MrFox1701 has a vid called Grab and Scrap or something like that where he shows several of the unique items you can carry to your settlement and there are more listed in the comments.
Ditto, I built my first bus settlement there, lol. I never knew about the cap "n" carry until you told me about it. Then that one day I found the folded chair and I had no idea I could carry that one back either! Now I try to pick up everything just in case I missed something! :) Nice to see you here, Sheck.
Do you guys know if you can carry those wooden deck chairs (or any settlements that have them), like the ones you find sometimes on docks? I just have wonder why Bethesda didn't make some of these things available in the vanilla game. It's like already built in their game. No extra work. All they had to do was make it available in the workshop. LOL.
I don't think so. But you know some items can be "pushed" back to the settlements as opposed to being able to actually picking them up. Like the cars, you can push them back. It might be an item such as that. I haven't tried to mess around with them, but I can give it a go.
Those big lay down lounge chair ones? I've never tried. Most likely not. As Phoenix mentioned some items can be pushed with another large item like a tire, mannequin, or Minigun. I think Phoenix even has a vid of her using a Minigun to push one of the painted cars back to her settlement at Nuka Word Red Rocket.
I always wondered if Beth planed on giving us one last DLC with all the build items but then changed their plans after all the modders made the items available for free.
You read my mind, Sheck. Exactly what I was thinking too about Bethesda. And thanks for mentioning my video, you have a great memory, even I forgot about that video! haha :)
How about naming the cat Fixit?
how did you do the turret lights at 3:28 not the the spot light but the two other ones like did you glitch half a pale threw the wall? if you could do a video on doing that kind of stuff that would be great. love the school house btw
Interestingly enough, Alex, those lights you pointed out were an afterthought. I put down some wood flooring in the area above it and the corners stuck out through the wall. So I made them look less out of place by adding the lights. Turned out pretty sweet. One of the lessons I have planned for this mini-series is a video about "design philosophy" where I'll talk about techniques for making building quirks look cool. Stay tuned!
where'd your HUD go? and...how are you closing the door without the "Close Door (Press Symbol)" thingy appearing...?
You can temporarily turn off your HUD from the settings menu. :)
The loft cat can be named wicked
Last time I was this early nick didn't have a brother
😂
lol didn't think I was gonna get response p.s love your channel
i was just about to recommend a mod and then i remembered its the no mods shop class
awesome vids my friend, how did you get the workshop terminal in Jamaica plains,i cant find one any where?
It's in the dilapidated building across from the bus. :)
Does anyone know how to make a chalkboard for a classroom?
I’m making a classroom in my Vault 88, can someone please help.
Use the technique in this video except use the back of the vanilla posters instead: th-cam.com/video/7hbJRjwN2fY/w-d-xo.html
Align two side by side and add a little metal shelf at the bottom.
I used metal bars for erasers and there's chalk you can find in the game.
Hope that helps. :)
Skooled Zone Thank You so much, you always know how to help us Fallout 4 builders.
I will let you know how it goes.
Can you show how to make the schoolhouse please
You should put a sign saying the skilled house
How did you put the floor through the workshop? Anything I try to place near one turns red 😢
I used the sinkable foundation floors from the Warehouse section (Contraptions dlc). Once you line up one and sink it into the floor, the rest snap into place pretty easily.
Can u make an episode on how u made the Jamaica plain barn house
Hi Finn. I'm kind of doing it pieces with all my "technique" videos. Once you understand the underlying techniques, it's possible to build just about anything. It's sort of like that old saying about just giving a man a fish vs. teaching him how to fish. ;-)
Thanks I didn't look it that way ps your videos make my day
I am trying to build the school house in the same place
Did you intentionally make that corner wall at the back of the house a giant face? Even the round wall for the mouth! Brilliant, intentional or otherwise.
Hehe, thanks. It wasn't intentional at first but when I saw where it was going I "accentuated" it a bit. ;-)
Catmeat. Name the cat Catmeat.
Glen Perkins Catmeat is great, a bit too cheesy but awesome. I like Mr Tibbles better though. If he goes with yours instead of Catmeat do catstew or catserole. Something like Dogmeat but with its own spin. Cat-tastrophy could fit in your genre too.
This is interesting, you have a collapsed roof. The Ps4 version Jamaica Way the roof is complete. Or did they possibly make a patch to fill it?
I don't know of a patch. Do you use mods?
Skooled Zone I do but, none of my mods fixed this place.
And you need to teach us how you did that please
I wish I had the season pass
Name him/her KitKat, you decide the gender Paul
Hey Paul, LOVE the vid. What's your game plan for the next episode? P.S you should name the cat "Cat without a hat" I also love cats
Glad you liked the vid man. Next episode is about the pillar glitch! Stay tuned.
Skooled Zone sure will!
Hiw do you get te lettering to line up on your storage
I believe there are some pre-made words that come with the DLCs.
Ok. I have to know, how do you get the cats for your settlements???
Some settlements come with a cat (like Abernathy Farm and Covenant) but for the others you'll need the cat cage from the _Wasteland Workshop_ dlc.
@@SkooledZone Paul ,got it. Thanks going to try it this weekend.
@@Marc-gi6yy Right on. Also, the _cat bowl_ will keep a cat in a certain area once it's released from the cage. Cheers...
catmeat
You should do a lucky commenter for every video
How do you drag items from other areas to settlements?
This might help explain it: th-cam.com/video/1mXvZYiOK5A/w-d-xo.htmlm12s
Skooled Zone Ahhh! I see! Thanks so much! LOL
Interesting, you do know that all the cats in game are synthetic, either synths or vatgrown, right? Not judging since IDK your characters story, but something to consider.
😹 Well some of them were just plain survivors: fallout.fandom.com/wiki/House_cat
4:00 Hey... is there a movie called _"The Walls Have Eyes"?_ If so, is it as good as the movies, _"The Hills Have Eyes"?_ LOL
