Had two shoulder surgeries this year and a third coming up so, needless to say, I had some down time. Enough to watch all of your videos on your channel. I can say that I’ll definitely be more effective if I ever get out this year from all the little details you’ve went over. These were some of the most educational videos on deer hunting that I’ve seen. Thank you for taking time to produce these videos for your viewers.

The very end of the video where you say, I could blab for hours.. it’s not blading to us who believe in what you’re saying. Please don’t take this the wrong way but it’s like listening to our grandpa growing up. They always knew so much and they just wanted to pass that information along to anyone who would take the time to listen. I get that from you and I always appreciate it. ALWAYS!

100% Real and to the point. The hunting world needs more guys like this and it’s not the scent control it’s the attention to detail and passion. Great videos

I purchased head to toe outfit. Thanks to John for eliminating the mistakes I would have made without his advice. I’m 54 and have bow hunted since 1987. I’m in Wv so have always dealt with pressure. I will comment on the suit after this coming game season. I will see if there is a difference. I’ve always been cheap on my gear, but successful, Wv standards lol. If this works I sure have missed out. I was put my clothes in sealed containers yrs ago round and scented with dirt leaves, etc. I had a buck last yr, within 30 yds and he knew I was there. I knew something was wrong and we all have seen that if u hunt. I believe now he smelled me after learning about scentlok from John. More to come after the rut season. Thanks John for the material.

thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I've been hunting for 46 years, mainly in Pa and NY, and since i've started using Scentlok, and using a scent control regimen, my 'LUCK' has changed nearly 100%. its been like night and day the amount of extreme close encounters i now have!! so thanks again, and keep them coming!!

The fact that you're so willing to call out Scentlok's gimmicky B.S., makes me trust you so much more with this scent control regime. Definitely excited to apply every step to my hunting routine this coming fall. Also, I hope I'm as cool as you in 40+ years. Stay healthy and deadly Mr. Eberhart.

The Arm and Hammer detergent has Baking Soda. All the old school bow hunters I know used to wash their hunting clothes in baking soda. Very effective at eliminating odors

@John Eberhart fancy clothes lol even if scentlock didn’t have the carbon technology it is fantastic quality clothing. I just got the new voyage mid weight set and it’s a 400 dollar suit. Scentlock is as fancy as I’ve ever had! And as fancy as I ever will have! By the time I’m done getting all my gear it will be thousands of dollars. And terra gilla is pretty fancy to. Idk man sitka is garbage lol

@John Eberhart I had you email me your scent control regimen last season. However I’ve been using your recommendations for 2 seasons now. Just re reading that literature and watching these 3 videos so far; I’ve seen small holes in my personal regimen. There’s definitely absolutely no doubt no questions asked scentlok works if used properly. Also I ordered one of your books. It will be here next week. Keep the content coming. Thanks again sir. God bless

Hey John, another great video. Just an idea to consider, black rubber gloves (disposable, ideally 5-6 mil) make for great gloves that are 100% scent free and fully dexterous. I’ve been hunting with these disposable rubber gloves on from Sept 15th through December 31st for the last handful of seasons and they work amazing for me. Never have to worry about putting them in the dryer to reactivate, and I know with 100% certainty every time that they’re guaranteed scent free. Just an idea for you. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the info sir. Been using scent lok since 2007 but improperly caring for my gear and getting winded occasionally. Implementation of this system has made a difference I’ve walked several two year olds from directly down wind at less then 50 yards. Not old deer but the older ones are hard to see around here. Always been a fan of his but John’s our family favorite from now on.

14:22 Just check your soaps and make sure there is no UV brighteners, even if they're scent and dye free. I switched to Seventh generation because its been proven not to have UV brighteners. They may have changed that Purex blend, but the bottle my dad had says it contains UV brighteners, it was on the back label somewhere. There was other ones that are military approved but i forget them now.

Awesome video I haven’t gotten into the smell portion yet but when you said camo pattern, I loved that I wear olive drab green pants a gray shirt that kind of looks like tree bark with a with a bony hat, which is also olive drab with a brown birdwatching veil, lol with a leaf pattern, which I have spray painted on it just to give it a little mosey and a little green and a little stripe break up and I paint my face, lighten my dark spots darken the light spots reverse your face now that’s going into pretty heavy camo, but I also take camouflage bungee cords and wrap around my head and whatever area I’m in I stuff that vegetation around my head waist and legs. And I’ve crawled up using night vision close enough to pet a bobcat. I’ve crawled up, just messing around her friends and grabbed them by their legs and their front yard. You just broke the basic silhouette up. Depending on what your hunting deer not so bad turkey birds or anything like that yeah they have a lot better site but a deer a bare a coyotes have sober height, and sense of smell, so I’m trying to figure out how to turn my basic non-camouflage clothes that pretty much veg as it’s called so I’m working downwind personally because I’m only 25 and I don’t have the experience some of these folks or the knowledge but the way sounds washer, clothes and sand lock material somehow I would say burn some wood get the ashes and mix them with it to sent locket it and then just put it in a bag full of dirt different kind of leaves cedar and just things in the woods and don’t dry your clothes in the dryer. Throw them on the ground and let them dry in the dirt??

I agree 100%. All these youtube personalities can say scent lok or scent control doesn't work obviously haven't paid attention to detail. I am meticulous about scent control. All my scent lok clothes stay outside during all of hunting season. Very rarely do I get busted and when I do it's because something came into contact with my hunting clothes. One huge thing most people forget to do is wipe down the cell phone. That can be the #1 reason a big mature buck will pick up your scent.

Such a genius man. Excellent tutorial. I don't know one single person that goes thru the details that you do for scent control. John, I wear ScentLok, I take care of it just as you and ScentLok instruct us to do. When you say the mosquito problem isn't an issue, for you at least, my eyebrows raised a little lol. I hunt in the bottoms here in the Arkansas River Valley, next to the river obviously with tons of oxbows, backwashes, and swamps. There's no doubt Terra-Squitos trying to carry us hunters off. What can I do in addition to wearing the ScentLok suits? Even though I'm covered from scalp to ankles with ScentLok, they continue eat my arms, hands, shoulders, and face up. They so.etimes bitey rump if I have the ESS saddle just right, making my rump look like a busted can of biscuits lol. I guess that's stretching the fabric somehow and letting human skina molecules thru...I'm not sure.

In regards to not wearing your head and face cover during entry and exit I completely understand in regards to that reducing perspiration but couldn’t it also increase your chances of getting winded being that the activated carbon is not covering your head?

Updated: I used to use scentless soap from the store and I was winded almost every single time I ever hunted. I started showering with no soap with hot water for 20 minutes and washing my clothes in just water and almost never get winded anymore. +3 years ago I began using scentlok and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was winded. It must’ve been eight years ago. Had a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 year-old eight pointer walk right underneath my tree two years ago, never smelled me. update - John is a better hunter than Dan.

I personally do it for personal safety so I keep my veil under my shirts at all time while I’m wearing either a brown or a green type of hunting clothing if I’m wearing brown pants, I’ll try to put a green shirt on gray still works because it’s the color of tree bark And I fold my bony hat and my gloves up and took them down in my pants just in case some killer or something of that caliber gets after you and you have to disappear very quick and if you’re being manhunt, I guess Cary some bare mass to throw off any scent or not to throw the scent but to calls whatever’s tracking you a.k.a. bloodhound it’ll disrupt their nose for about 3540 minutes to give you enough time if you’re good enough and quiet enough to not move overhead, vegetation to slip out.

Jon. What do you typically do if nearly all the public land is thick security cover? Say a couple thousand acres of mostly dry swamp with patches of oaks and hardwoods that are surrounded by thick bedding type cover that are nearly impossible to access without bumping deer. Typically the edges get hunted quite a bit

When i hunt with either of my scentlok suits i find there is always some type of moisture either in or on them. Dew from tall grass, maybe some sweat, light rain, had to cross a creek, etc whatever. I find myself putting the suits in the dryer after every hunt before i place them back into the sealed totes. I am trying to avoid any moisture on the suit causing mold or anything in the sealed totes. Am i doing this too much or is there no such thing as too much?

Just out of curiosity have you ever tried to deodorize a piece of equipment by putting it in an airtight container with reactivated ScentLok garments and then repeatedly taking the garments out, reactivating them in the dryer and putting them back into the container? Would that work? I’m not questioning your regimen one bit and will follow it to a tee I’m just curious. I think that would be yet another way to demonstrate that the technology actually works. I have nothing but the highest respect for your skill and knowledge! I’m a huge fan and I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Thank you very much!

My worry would be overheating. Say if I was in my Gilly suit it’s vented and everything it’s homemade it’s not a bush Wookie suit but what if I want to hide my scent from escaping out of it without sent locking the Gilly suit because that sounds impossible and you don’t want to be detected by flir just in case the country ever goes back to 1860

Just curious how John deals with the humidity of breath when wearing the head cover for long periods. It seems like i have to "drop down" the face covering every so often so I can breathe some fresh, dry air. The inside of my face cover always ends up wet!
I did buy a merino wool balaclava from Icebreaker as a base headcover so it would be that that gets moist, but even so, its very difficult to have the face cover on the WHOLE time!

I'm not quite sure you could be successful doing this in a majority of places I hunt, especially during our early season. 90 degree temps, insane humidity, and hundreds of feet in elevation changes at times. You said you bring an extra base to change into if you sweat, but wouldn't your pack be wet with sweat from being on your back? Even if you bring an extra set to change into before they get to that point, you would have to use a really large pack for the numerous change of base layers you would need. I just don't see you or anyone doing such in that situation and being efficient at the same time. I could see it working if you lived in a much cooler area with no elevation changes or if you don't go very far. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're lazy. I invite you or anyone to try early season in the mountains of GA, NC, or TN to see how well it works out.

Thanks John, I got a few more new tips. I have no issues with scent control if it is not raining. I have issues when I need to enter with a rain suit since some of my best areas are slightly uphill ( 200 to 600 feet of elevation gain ). To make it worse I hunt only public land and carry everything in including my sticks each sit, so the sweat factor is high. There is just no way to dry out in the rain. Or just sitting early season in the rain I have a tendency to sweat in a rain suit. What tips do you have for these instances?

John, do you put used scentlok suits in a separate tote? How many times can you hunt in a suit before you put it in the dryer to reabsorb? Thanks, I enjoy your videos.

I have a feeling that scent control is coming more from your hunting height in the tree then anything else.

@John Eberhart that was a really childish response to a simple suggestion that maybe height played a role.

@John Eberhart I really respect you as a hunter and the accomplishments you’ve made. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and I guess I’m not educated enough In your style of hunting and shouldn’t have came off like that. My apologies.

@John Eberhart looking at it from your view I’m sure that actually does get asked a lot. Also a man with the credibility you have I know people are constantly saying stupid crap and judging absolutely every move you make. Again I apologize I should have been more careful on how I worded that.

Ray, I totally agree with your assessment and have made comments on this as well.
Mr Eberhart it's not something to get upset about. Ray is giving his opinion just like you have in your videos. That's the nice thing about this great country is that we can all give our opinions. That's probably why I fought for this country.
The only reason I could see you to be upset is if you're not 100% sure that you believe in your scent lock. hmmm. just my opinion.

I watched a few of your videos, and I am currently watching your scent control videos. So if you have a scent lock suit and you get blood on the exterior of it and the charcoal is on the inside, you don't wash the blood out? So you're saying that you can just throw it in the dryer for 40 minutes and it is going to stop the blood on the exterior from leaving scent on anything? Hmmm.

Great video John, I'm pretty sure i've seen that you keep your boots in an air tight tote like everything else, do you only wear a pair of boots once and move on? I worry that if you put said boot back in tote the smell from the interior of the boot may contaminate the rest of your boots that you have with you. Thoughts? thanks.

If you can give any information about what to do with my bow because I shoot it all the time but I don’t use my gloves. It’s kept out of human scent but than again I use my bear hands.

Hi John, In Virginia when hunting early season (doe only) its very warm. If I'm sweating walking in and then for the first 30 mins of a sit, would I need to de-absorb the suit more often. I have worn a suit for the early season without washing or de-absorbing it and then put it back in a scent free container and it stinks pretty bad when taking it out and putting it back on. Any thoughts?
