    "Wilhelm, why are you numbering those screws?"
    "So that the armorer does not replace them in the wrong order, Franz."
    "But they are identical. What would be the harm?"
    "...they would be _wrong,_ Franz."

      Identical at that time? Probably makes sense to also have in a manual to not mess up attaching the mount, tightening in order just like following a shape to torque car wheels.

    That parabellum lock is one of the most German things I've ever seen. This gun is the WW1 equivalent of a G11.

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I'm sad that the G11 never went anywhere. The engineer in me tells me that having a firearm that mechanically resembles a Swizz wrist watch is a very bad idea. But my fetish for intricate mechanics tells me it's a thing of true beauty that someone (preferably me) should baby frequently with the best lubricants and intricate adjustment procedures known to man.

    • @acomingextinction
      @acomingextinction ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@andersjjensen Yeah, I'm with you. I understand *why* the G11 wasn't successful, but it had so many clever ideas in its design that its cancellation still feels like a shame.

    From the UK here. Other than an air rifle, I have never fired a gun but find your channel so interesting. I'm not technically minded either but find your channel so accessible as you do an amazing job explaining how they work and what makes each piece unique. I've said this before but my favourite videos are ones with a story behind them like the PTRD, Pancor Jackhammer and the 'Green Meanie.' I recently watched an older video of yours on the Springfield Hellion, a really beautifully designed weapon. Once again, a fantastic Channel.

    Just an FYI, the screws are probably not ID'd for order of operation but because they were made by a screwmaker (hand made screws and taps).
    In this case, I would bet the correct amount of torque was applied to each screw after X number of turns with all the screw head slots being alligned perpendicular to the barrel and the correct order of operations is to loosen or tighten them the same way you would a car wheel so the threads don't deform.

I know that on early sniping rifles, offsets were to allow the use of charger clips (I think) but perhaps on this weapon it was to allow the use of the iron sights? Just guesses, would love to know more!
