You have to hear "Will it go round in circles", an extremely fun song. Also "Born Again" was a great love song and a departure from his normal sound. For more of the Beatles connection, you might want to watch the movie Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The acting isn't good, but the music is. Billy was a fifth Beatle on the Let It Be album, but he wasn’t supposed to be. He showed up to say hi, since he had met them while touring with Little Richard. On film, the Beatles tell him his playing gave them a “breath of fresh air”. His solo on Get Back is iconic!! In the Get Back documentaryHe has a great smile and always seems happy. “Outa Space” is awesome, but an instrumental, “Will It Go Round In Circles” is a good one too! There’s a great live version on TH-cam from Midnight Special.
Yeah, they should definitely check out that 3-part Beatles documentary. Even though it's almost too much at times (as a massive Beatle fan, even I found myself thinking it could use a lot of editing), when Billy shows up it's really cool, because it really just fell together almost accidentally. And he's so laid-back and chill, John Lennon says to Billy something like, "We never actually asked you if you wanted to be here," and he responds that it's all good and he's having fun and getting into the groove.
@@DJHolte He probably saved that whole project. They were so happy he was there and seemed to love working with him. Made the process seem fresh and exciting again.
@@RobSquadReactions be sure to add "With You I'm Born Again" - you speak about the diversity of his talent, and this song really showcases that. It's a beautiful duet ballad. Such a departure. He actually *hated* the song, but you could never tell from his live performance with Syreeta. (His hair is even different - no 'fro!)
I always loved his music. Once you hear Will It Go Round in Circles, you won't be able to get the song out of your head. He sat in with the Beatles in their famous roof top concert-part of the music showed up on their Let it Be album. In fact he played organ for the song Let it Be. He performed for George Harrison's concert for Bangladesh, in which he sang That's the Way God Planned It. He was loved by both sides of the racial divide. He wrote You Are So Beautiful, the song Joe Cocker had the big hit on. I can't say enough good things about him.
When I was 14,my insightful and indulgent parents bought me the Concert for Bangladesh triple album for Christmas. It was the first time I heard Billy Preston and I have been a fan ever since. It was also the first time I had ever heard Bob Dylan and that started a love affair that lasted a lifetime. I also found out, through that record, about Eric Clapton and Leon Russel. Thanks mum and dad. The best Christmas present ever.
Billy Preston is arguably one of the finest session keyboardists the sixties ever saw. It would be a shame not to listen to Billy Preston's classic "Will it go round in circles." He played on the Beatles' Abbey Road album.
Saw Billy Preston Live in concert with The Rolling Stones June 1975, the night before high school graduation! Then saw Billy Preston again with George Harrison!!! Love Billy Preston!!!
What even many fans don’t know is Billy started very young. There’s live recordings on TH-cam, in black n white, of him on TV playing when he was 10-11 years old. Not only did he play with many greats he was basically a child prodigy. Also, it’s interesting you posted My Sweet Lord today too because Billy and George were friends. At a Concert for George, a year after he passed, many musicians did a tribute concert for George and Billy sang My Sweet Lord ☺️ That whole concert is on TH-cam too, just btw 😁 Finally, Eric Clapton is also on a Beatles song. He plays the solo in While my guitar gently weeps. And Clapton helped arrange the concert for George. AND, before he passed, billy played in Clapton’s band during the first Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2004. RIP Billy
There have been a half dozen people referred to as "5th Beatle" since their esrly days.. Preston only became associated with them on their last 2 albums.
Billy Preston, the unofficial fifth Beatle. The record company wouldn’t allow him to be an actual member due to the color of his skin in the early 60’s, but he’s been a part of many songs plus his own solo projects after the Beatles broke up
Billy Preston just makes my heart melt every time I hear hear one his songs . With You I’m Born Again is an a,axing duet he sings blew me away. All his songs are amazing ,his energy is unmatched . Love ,smiles and good vibes y’all.
What I am most thankful for is growing up in my teenage years in the 70s. Non stop incredible music. This one of hundreds of bangers. So glad to see younger people listening to this great music.
I was age 9 to 19 during the 1970s and it was an awesome decade for music and being young. I'm thankful too! I bought my first Billy Preston record when I was 10 ("Outa Space").
The immortal Billy Preston! How interesting that you do this right after "My Sweet Lord", considering George Harrison gave Billy to do a version of in 1970! Perhaps Billy's most famous song is "In the Midnight Hour", which you should definitely do next! "Will It Go Round in Circles" is also a banger.
I stumbled on the old song the day before yesterday. I have been listening to it so many times. I love this song and this talent. BYW Preston was a child protege and self-taught musically. He played with bands at the age of 10. Pure genius. It. takes me back to the 70"s when I was in my 20's!
Billy Preston brought so much positive energy to his performances. He’s super talented and creative. Diverse is a great word you used to describe him - he could give any group what they needed in his inimitable way. Plus, he was great leading his own group.
Another artist on a record with the Beatles: Eric Clapton played guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Also, of course, George Martin played keys on many early Beatles songs. A couple of Apple scruffs sang on "Across the Universe." Yoko screeched on "Bungalow Bill". And of course many string players across their catalog. What Billy Preston has is that he is the only guest artist that is listed on the label: Get Back was credited to The Beatles feat. Billy Preston.
I had the privilege of recording and touring Australia with Billy Preston. His talent was beyond words. It was an amazing up close experience playing organ with him on stage. He is so missed by those of us who lives he touched.
As others have said, Will It Go 'Round In Circles is one of his signature songs. Back in '72, he had a #2 instrumental hit with Outa Space. Great song that's coming up on 50 years old!

The Beatles' song where he can be best heard is in their song "Get Back." He's the one on piano/keyboard. It's one of my favorite Beatles songs. And I don't think you've done it yet. Also, in the "Concert for George," staged shortly after George Harrison's death, Billy performs George's signature hit, "My Sweet Lord," and it is beyond phenomenal. Yeah, "Outa Space" is great. It's sometimes used in films and shows to give a 70s funk feel to a setting, so they might have heard it without knowing it.
The ONE artist that the Beatles absolutely worshiped and who almost every singer of the 60's and 70's considered the GREATEST singer of their age was Harry Nilsson. To hear the FULL RANGE of his voice, play WITHOUT YOU. You'll thank me.

One of my favorite Billy songs is "That's the way God planned it". I saw Billy Preston live in Buffalo NY on August 6, 1972. Opening for Billy was Badfinger. My very first concert. I was 16 years old.
Arguably one of the best duet love songs ever Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright. "With you I'm born again" You will be blown away. He wrote some amazing songs to like "You are so beautiful " Made famous by Joe Cocker.

You will not have heard the true Billy Preston until you sit back to the long version of "Outta Space".
This song can definitely make you smile😀
I've seen Billy Preston twice in concert. First time 1974, when he toured with George Harrison. Second time 1975, with the Stones. Billy could get the audience up on their feet. He was so good at his art. RIP Billy Preston.
