Don't try this if you have no idea what you're doing, the sanding wheel can and will ignite the gas vapor if there is big enough leak from the tank. And you will burn down your car probaly your house too. However, not a bad idea if you know your shit.
Looks like this is an issue even on the newer ones. I have a 14 and have been smelling fuel vapors. Had it looked at underneath and no leaks down there. Im guessing it's this same issue.
Good that you were able to complete without an accident, but would not recommend this method. The foil would not prevent vapour ignited by a spark. The time saved isn't worth it (I've dropped the tank on this car and it's PITA too).
This will completely invalidate your car insurance. If you're involved in a bad accident, the police crawl all over your car and file a report, believe me, even if your tyre pressures are incorrect, the insurance company will refuse to pay out. This mod would be considered a structural modification so you must inform your insurers and renegotiate your payments or you're wasting your money paying it.
Plus you are the only one who explained how to do the quick disconnect for the fuel line.
You guys can use the Oscilator cutting. It will not have sparkling fire. Thus is the best method i like to do it for my car. Thanks for sharing
Excelent job my friend. I have the same problem, I hope is only the ring
