I can forgive lack of Kefka with a Dose of Kuja. Kinda interesting how their my favorite villains of the franchise and their oddly paired in the Dissidia series.
Jin and Malos from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are my favorite villains in anything ever. They work so well on so many levels and i can’t not love them so much.
Great video! Loved how you dove into the stories to give some context! Recently played fire emblem and got that route where you side with edelgard. Great game!
Of the villains listed here, my personal favourite is Eve. She is simply a brilliantly twisted villain of a Human-Eldritch Abomination, and with personality to back it up. Not even Resident Evil can compare, as of writing. Also, kudos to Eve for taking the concept of Miang Hawwa from Xenogears, making it the primary focus, and adding a heap of body horror to emphasise the nightmare fuel. [SPOILERS FOR THE TRAILS SERIES, ESPECIALLY TRAILS OF COLD STEEL IV] My overall favourite villain, though, would have to be Giliath Osborne, the Blood and Iron Chancellor of the Trails Series. Not even the spotty quality of Trails of Cold Steel IV* could detract from this guy's sheer presence. If anything, the game made him better (I even prefer his new voice actor over the old one). It's always a sign of good writing if the player still feels respect towards a main villain, even when they always have the upper hand to the very end. *Easily-skippable phoned-in Harem-ish bonding events, characters returning from the dead, and multiple heel-face turns of varying quality, though I actually have a soft spot for the latter two elements. For example, the moment that "Crimson Flash Shadow -Shining Wings-" started playing for the first time had my jaw drop and fist pump throughout the entire cutscene.

@@PelvicGaming This isn’t even ‘fangirling’ for BL’s route, it’s just clear to me that of the 3 Lords/routes, they put the most effort and intention into BL, it’s also the route where all students live but 2, which in my head is the game basically saying it’s the ‘best route’. And in said route^, Edelgard turns into a towering super-demon. Dimitri and Claude’s ends are treated tragic on the other routes, where you KNOW you want and need to kill Edel, you can even side against her in her own fkn route lolol. Great list; I'm familiar with numbers 7-2, and they're all great choices. Also, you don't really need Kefka when you've got the villain from Suikoden 2?
I got scared for a minute Luca Blight wasnt on the list! I love your content and no freaking villain list is complete without him, if not topped by him! Great list as always! And adore your style as always!
I like Kefka but Exdeath doesn't get enough credit. His personality is so positive and jolly compared to the usual brooding, angry, and stoic villians we see in jrpgs. If he wasn't evil, you would think he is a protagonist. Also his threat level is so high its multiversal.
Luca Blight wasn't just a guy. He was traumatized as a kid with hatred of his father. He grew up physicaly on the rune of the beast that changed him to one. When check Yubers and Lucas unit stats Luca trashes all units ingame. He is supposed to be that avatar of the beast rune.
Didn't think I'd see Zanza in the top spot but happy to see it nonetheless. I always found him to be a rather underrated antagonist considering he's typically disregarded as just another generic god final boss which is something I never understood. Both Zanza and much of the story of XC1 was one big deconstruction on what the possible existence of being a god would be like and how it's antithetical to the technological development of society (which empowers the masses). Rather than being deified and all-powerful, Zanza is instead forgotten, killed by his creations, lives a lonely existence and simply derives his power from Alvis. I thought that was pretty raw and quite different from what we usually see in JRPGs where the final boss god just feels like it's there to cheaply raise the stakes for more dramatic effect rather than commentary. That being said, Albedo (Xenosaga) blows him tf out and is the best villain of the Xeno metaseries and my personal favorite in gaming.
I'm not disappointed to see Luca Blight. In fact, I'm delighted to know this bastard is here. He's dangerous, wrathful, and a just goddamn monster, and I love this psycho.
Luca Blight and Vegeta are very similar as they are both psychotic princes. However you do start to see the differences when Vegeta says that he is in a good mood since Krillin handed him the dragon ball and won't kill Krillin and Bulma. Luca wouldn't do that.
Mother from Wild Arms, TO THIS DAY, still gives me chills! Her laugh fills me with dread every time I hear it. The way that scene played out, how she went after and devoured Zeik as he tried to crawl away... CHILLS! XD That was a wonderfully done villain~
While FF9 is my favorite FF game, for me Sephiroth is the best villain, well at least until they butchered him in the remakes. The problem with so many FF villains is that they kind of just are not even there, 90% of the game. It's always like "oh you thought that was the true villain, but it was really me mwahaha". While Kefka was a decent villain, again you really don't see or know anything about him other than he is a psychopath. But Sephiroth is different, his presence is a phantom looming over you almost the entire game as an insurmountable force. You still don't see much of him, but you do learn about him and because his presence is felt it makes the encounters with him that much more impactful. Overall I think for the most part FF games in general are overrated as good stories. I think it was never the stories that were great, but the worlds they created and the impactful movie moments that stick in peoples minds that trick people into thinking the stories were great. As far as character building and the overall story actually making much sense most of the time, most FF games kind of suck. Also awesome shout out of Wild Arms as I also think Mother and heck all the villains of that game carry the story.
Totally agree with Sephiroth. I won't say he's my favorite villain but OG Sephiroth is often compared to the shark from Jaws. You can see the destruction he's causing throughout the game but you it's never thrown in your face too often (unlike the Remakes). It's basically told and displayed in the Kalm flashback that this man is not to be fucked with and not directly interacting with him that much makes the final encounter sooooo much more satisfying. I'm also a sucker for the "hero turned villain" trope when it's done well.
In order to avoid spoilers, I can only watch, like, 4 of these. But that gives me 7 more games to move further up my list, so I still see this as a win. 😇
Something else I enjoy about Edelgard's character is while it's often pretty subtle, you can see a lot of her character resulting from severe trauma. If ever a cast of Fire Emblem universally needed therapy it was the cast from Three Houses and Edelgard is near the top of the list. It can be easy to miss these details because a lot of all the characters' backstories comes through their support conversations which are largely optional. But yeah, Edelgard's been through some stuff. And knowing this makes her actions all the more interesting. To me Edelgard is one of those characters who you don't have to like or agree with her methods (I don't, my favorite lord in 3H is Claude), but you absolutely need to understand why she does what she does.
I came into this list preparing to be disappointed by the lack of Luca Blight. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised! For Three Houses, I also started with the Blue Lions route, but it actually made me hate Dimitri so much that I sided with Edelgard on my second playthrough just for a chance to kill him. xD
@@samyb4566 He spent half the game as a raving psychopath, threatening to murder everyone around him, including his 'friends'. I was begging for him to try it so I would have an excuse to kill him. As for his 'redemption', I felt it was very poorly written. He became a lunatic because of trauma, but then with an additional bit of trauma, he's suddenly all better and does a complete 180? I just thought it was very cheap and unearned. He does become more tolerable after that, but it didn't erase how awful he was for a long time. Ironically, I didn't find him as terrible in Edelgard's route, and Three Hopes made him a lot better.
This is a really unique list, lots of villains I rarely see highlighted. Two of my top picks would be Ocelot from the MGS series, perhaps the only quadruple agent in history, and a certain post-game villain from Persona 5 Royal who has one of the most compelling arguments that what he's doing is correct I've ever seen.
Heya Pelvic you said *if* wild arms get's remade it already got a remake called wild arms: alter code F on the PS2 did you mean another newer remake or that you didn't like alter code f and would prefer to forget about it, or maybe you didn't know it was a thing! Wasn't certain so I figured I'd tell ya~
Kuja is the most beautiful man villain ever, not only that, he has the GREATEST THEME SONG EVER. The Darkness of Eternity is genuinely my favorite song of all time. It is PERFECT.
Kuja isn't even really the bad guy of FF IX. It was really Garland. He was the one who orchestrated the whole thing with Terra, and Kuja was just a pawn, really. Edit: Melbu Frahma?
I have not played any of these yet. But for me Ramirez from Skies of Arcadia is the best villain I have ever experienced yet in a JRPG. His reasoning for destroying the world was the same reason why I hate the world back then and why I hate it today. I had to put down the controller and walk away from the game for a bit because his speech about the world hit me too close to home with my beliefs. No other villain yet has come to close to what Ramirez was in that game. And it’s one of many reasons why Skies of Arcadia is my #5 best JRPG I have ever played so far. Everyone really needs to play this game. I know it’s tough to do today, but try to emulate it if you can.
I wish I played more video games! Although, i’m currently playing ff7 (the original game) and it’s pretty good so far! But I can’t say anything about sephiroth right now, but if we’re talking about persona 5 royal, I think maruki is probably one of the most tragic “villains” I’ve ever seen. While I love royals version of akechi, I can’t help but remember the doctor and how much he wanted to “help”. Truly the embodiment of the phrase “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”.
Really solid lineup of villains here, very based list overall! And since I'm bored, here are 11 of favorites of my own that didn't make the cut: - *Wiseman* from _Baten Kaitos Origins_ - *Fawful* from _Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story_ - *Kefka Palazzo* from _Final Fantasy VI_ - *Mithos Yggdrasill* from _Tales of Symphonia_ - *The Black Knight* from _Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance_ - *Gustadolph Aesfrost* from _Triangle Strategy_ - *Heiss* from _Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology_ - *Airy* from Bravely Default - *Ramirez* from _Skies of Arcadia Legends_ - Takuto Maruki from _Persona 5 Royal_ - *Rufus Albarea* from _The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV_
What's fun about FE3H is how each antagonist becomes a villain for each route; escalating their actions in response to desperation (Rhea in particular amps up the villainy in CF). Part of me still wants that "golden" ending route; but I gotta admit, I do love that no one ending feels 100% having solved the issues Fodlan has going on.
I’m not saying this to have the most tired recent FE discourse ever (lol) but it doesn’t help anyone thinking ‘Edelgard is right’ when the Blue Lions’ route was the most fleshed-out and finished-feeling, she turns into an actual demon, where neither other lord does (literally at least) and also you can even side against her while choosing the her House at first. If there is ONE villain of the lords in any route, it’s Edelgard. Dimitri has a horrible arc obviously where he’s full PTSD delusional, I’m not calling him all good, but he has a downfall and then a heroic arc where Edel is the one waging war in every path. Also, BL’s route is the one where every student’s life is saved (but 2, the lowest death number) making it ‘the best ending’ in terms of most video game narrative completionist criteria. The route where Edel is a literal demon is the route the game tells you is ‘most good’.
Complex villains are great but ones like Porky who are just straight up evil are great too. I played Mother 3 last year & seeing the things that boy did gave me the motivation to whoop his butt.
I can honestly say everyone from the abbey in tales of berseria also would make perfect choices. I've never wished I could reach into the screen and strangle someone myself than Artorius and Inominat
You really frame why Nier is such an amazing story. One of the best of all time. Good list of villians and engaging video. I do think Albedo should be in any jrpg villians list but I don't think you've played the Xenosaga series (and frankly dont think you'd enjoy them based on xenogears)
I glossed over the timestamps and saw Suikoden. You are SO real for that! The whole world needs to experience the story to see firsthand what humans alone are capable of.
While i agree that Adachi was really cool, i think Kamoshida from P5 was worse (in a good way) Kamoshida was just pure evil and the build up to his fight was so good to the point he was the most memorable boss in the game
Melissa Pearce and Mitochondria Eve aren't the same person, The same Eve that used Kiyomi Nagashima body is the same one that used Melissa. I say used instead of possessed because the second Eve awakens from dormancy is the second the host dies. Melissa Pearce is only alive for less than 2 minutes of the game.
I'm a sucker for the "hero turned villain" trope. But lately I've been really appreciating a bad guy just being bad for the sake of being bad. Someone like Luca Blight or Kefka. They just want to see the world burn without any reason other than it provides them satisfaction.
Same. Kuja is definitely cool though and definitely an underrated villian. I love Sephiroth as well too even though he's been milked to death lately. As I get older, I totally understand why Kefka gets the praise he does as a villain though. Popular opinion makes him a boring choice nowadays but Kefka is one of those rare villains that actually accomplished what most villains ultimately fail at.
Kefka actually won. That was an edgy plot twist in any FF game I have ever witnessed. I really thought I triggered a bad ending after the floating continent fell.
I'm genuinely surprised Seymour didn't make the list considering your love for him, but if its a limit of 1 character from an FF game, then I get Kuja. As someone with FF6 as my best game ever, , I'm fine with all the FF6 trolling that goes around, as long as its not Sephiroth. The one which I thought would be on here would be, not really a villain persay, but Prince Charmles from Dragon Quest 8. They did a good job of molding him into the Joffrey/Farquad level of, absolutely hated royals with no redeemable qualities, long before GoT or Shrek were things. I don't think you ever fight him so I don't know if he counts as a villain, but he's a significantly worse antagonist in DQ8 than any of the actual main villains you chase around.

Really solid lineup of villains here, very based list overall! And since I'm bored, here are 11 of favorites of my own that didn't make the cut:
- *Wiseman* from _Baten Kaitos Origins_
- *Fawful* from _Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story_
- *Kefka Palazzo* from _Final Fantasy VI_
- *Mithos Yggdrasill* from _Tales of Symphonia_
- *The Black Knight* from _Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance_
- *Gustadolph Aesfrost* from _Triangle Strategy_
- *Heiss* from _Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology_
- *Airy* from Bravely Default
- *Ramirez* from _Skies of Arcadia Legends_
- Takuto Maruki from _Persona 5 Royal_
- *Rufus Albarea* from _The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV_
"Naturally, she fucking McLoses it..."
Made me laugh out loud.
Any video that mentions Tales of is an instant like
Tales of has some great villains~
i love villains way more than the protagonists. annoys me there are so few baddy figurines ever made.
YEEESSS Villains are my absolute favorite!
I can honestly say everyone from the abbey in tales of berseria also would make perfect choices. I've never wished I could reach into the screen and strangle someone myself than Artorius and Inominat
Your description of Porky just bumped those games up my list 😂😂😂
Ah, I'm glad!!
I LOVED Parasite Eve! That's one of those games I wish they would totally remake like they did Resident Evil 2.
What made you choose that name for your channel?
I **love** Parasite Eve. It’s the best video game ever. 😊❤❤❤
Me and you both ♡
Ayyy I see you with your sponsors!! 🫡😁
I'm genuinely shocked at:
1. Someone remembered Luca Blight
2. You used a Tales of villain that wasn't Leon.
@PelvicGaming No:9 the girl with the demon hand in my book she seems like the hero & not the villen to me wanting revenge for her btother ...
Hearing "microchondria" repeatedly, it broke my brain. Zanza really is above them all, though.
Haha, I will never forget that word.
Zanza is my guy! Just a horrible and sad God.
You really frame why Nier is such an amazing story. One of the best of all time. Good list of villians and engaging video. I do think Albedo should be in any jrpg villians list but I don't think you've played the Xenosaga series (and frankly dont think you'd enjoy them based on xenogears)
Kefka is the only correct answer
I glossed over the timestamps and saw Suikoden.
You are SO real for that! The whole world needs to experience the story to see firsthand what humans alone are capable of.
Didn’t Wild Arms get a remake on the PS2 already?
Fou Lu did nothing wrong
Edelgard was the hero. The church were the villains. Although she's basically a Darth Vader type
While i agree that Adachi was really cool, i think Kamoshida from P5 was worse (in a good way) Kamoshida was just pure evil and the build up to his fight was so good to the point he was the most memorable boss in the game
I agree with Edelgard (as in, I get her perspective). Definitely an antagonist, but villain? Idk haha
Eve❤
what is the easiest way to get to play the Nier (father version) nowadays ?
Velvet my beloved
Melissa Pearce and Mitochondria Eve aren't the same person, The same Eve that used Kiyomi Nagashima body is the same one that used Melissa. I say used instead of possessed because the second Eve awakens from dormancy is the second the host dies. Melissa Pearce is only alive for less than 2 minutes of the game.
Jin, Malos, and Amalthus from Xenoblade 2
this was awesome
I'm a sucker for the "hero turned villain" trope. But lately I've been really appreciating a bad guy just being bad for the sake of being bad. Someone like Luca Blight or Kefka. They just want to see the world burn without any reason other than it provides them satisfaction.
"Zaydayn"💀
ZAI-DAYNE
While I personally would have taken Kefka over Kuja im just glad this isn't just Sephiroth worship.
Commenting as an Edlegard stand:
She was the villain, but that doesn't mean she was wrong! Lol
Black eagles best house....I still think Edelgard is the hero of the game, for me!
Kefka actually won. That was an edgy plot twist in any FF game I have ever witnessed. I really thought I triggered a bad ending after the floating continent fell.
Jrpg villains are so interesting. So evil, so so evil.
Oof, I had to skip all but one because all of the others are in my backlog 😅
One per series! Otherwise the bae would be mentioned
You’re the goat!!!
Black Eagles Gang!
Calling velvet a villain is rather stretching it.
Goro akechi is the sexiest villian
One of....
