- On January 23rd, 2024, The New Classical FM hosted a special concert to honour the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of the Nazis.
This program tells the story of Grafeneck Castle in Germany, a centre of high culture during the Renaissance, but a place of horror during World War II.
In 1939, the Nazis transformed Grafeneck Castle from a care facility into their first centralized killing centre. During the year it was in operation, they exterminated 10,654 patients with cognitive and physical disabilities in the first industrial gas chamber ever built.
Grafeneck 10654 consists of compositions by violinist Helmut Lipsky and renowned Swiss composer Thomas Fortmann, including their reimaginations of music by CPE Bach and Beethoven.

Great concert. They presented it at the Goethe Institute in Montreal on January 31. Please can someone tell me what she’s playing at 45:25? Thanks
The piece is: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, a Chorale from Cantata No. 147 by J.S.Bach, the father of C.P.E. Bach. I had to bring in somehow the son/father relationship into my reimagnination of a Sonata by CPE Bach! 🙂
Thanks. 🙏
Ich höre es immer wieder. Vielen Dank!
