I was just having this conversation with a coworker a few days ago. I'm working towards being able to retire at 50 (next year) and I'll be converting to working full time for my own detail business and I'm currently in a position with a set number clients that the business supports itself so even though I'm not fully retiring in the strictest sense, working for myself will feel more rewarding than propping up some faceless CEO up in the ivory tower.
It’s happening everywhere. It’s not good at all! These people have worked their whole lives to retire. Now they’re priced out of their retirement and in a lot of cases their homes. Landlords are jacking up rent by several hundred dollars a month on average. How can someone on SS that was already on a tight budget handle this?

I've been considering going into the community to find a hammered vehicle just to add to my portfolio and either not charge or do it at a steep discount because let's be honest, people that can afford our services easily don't often have hammered vehicles...unless they're into mudding or something else that makes your paint look like a war crime.

I had a Chrysler Sebring that had been parked under trees for 6+ months while the owner was recovering from surgery. Green and black mold covered the silver paintwork and black convertible top, and like the truck in the video, the cowl was full of "maple leaf helicopters and acorns. The interior was not clean but not a "disaster" either. 6 hours later, the owner's son came to get the car. He stated that the car did not look that good when his Mom bought it.

Side note, keep water away from the engine. The knock sensors are below the intake and if you get too much water in that area, you’ll damage them.
Good tip about the timers. After spending an hour on the air vents of a clients car the other day it’s something I’ll try. ADHD has it’s positives and negatives 😂

$650 is a LOT of money for many people, this may be his only shot to clean up his truck. I can’t count how many times I’ve saved up and been ripped off, it’s such a terrible feeling. By working efficiently, you were able to provide a lot of high quality work which helped carry his dollar so much further which I’m sure he really appreciated.
But you also hit your pay rate, which indicated that you found a great balance between quality of service and speed. Phenomenal job, sounds like everybody won 👏👏👏

Hi Chelsea, great job on the pickup. I am working on one in even worse condition. I purchased a 1988 Ford 4X4 F250 diesel with only 48,000 miles on it. The husband passed away and it stayed parked in the yard since about 1991. No one ever drove it after he died. I had a job getting it running and then changing all of the fluids. Just releasing the brakes was a job. But I wanted a project to do with my nephew. It had two toned paint white on top and bottom with silver in the middle that actually peeled off down to the primer. I wanted to see if I could bring the white paint back though I will be painting the truck in the future. The mold on the paint was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I didn’t even know it was white. I wished you had done this sooner but I could relate as I watched and appreciate your talent’s. Thanks for taking us along on this job… John

Chelsea, I recently did a job quite similar to this. Exhausting but extremely satisfying, especially as you referred - the clients reaction. On occasion, that makes up for the lack of profitability. As a long view, I received several referrals from it, so I essentially recouped my time and expense. 🤷🏻

If the budget would allow it Could you put a glass coating on it if the paint is so damaged or you get a problem due to the oxidation that is still in it.
I wouldn’t recommend it on paint in that condition plus it’s stored outside and if the paint fails the coating will fail right along with it so personally it’s better to just use a sealant on it or at most a spray coating but not a long term coating

No but I did a heavy clay towel treatment and polish which should have removed most rail dust

What kind of length of time will you get with the trim product you used? Will it come off with the first rainstorm or wash?
It should last 4-6 months it’s more of a maintenance product but a lot of that is based on how you’re washing the vehicle if you’re taking it through but automatic car wash or not their strong soaps strip products like that off faster

That thing looked like it was in the process of being reclaimed by mother nature. You did a great job as usual! How many different compounds/polishes did you end up going through on this job?
@@ExodusFX tested 4 or 5 but landed with Diamond Polish + 3D One on roof and hood and Platinum Polish on the sides

Do you get a sore back and arms doing the side vertical panels from polishing? I keep hearing if I do get sore and tired that I'm doing it wrong. I'm not very strong.

I hope so too! And typically my arms don’t hurt me as I stay within my shoulder width and use my chair to help go side to side. Sometimes I get sore from vacuuming and bending over but polishing is not so bad
