Als kleiner Junge war ich davon immer begeistert. Später habe ich selbst solch Paraden mitgemacht.

Man konnte nicht meckern, die NVA war höchst diszipliniert, hier wieder schön zu sehen. Alles hat gestimmt, die Bewegungen und Musik waren zackig. So muss das Deutsche Militär sein!

Only in regards to weaponry otherwise the drill,music, uniforms even the helmets were all German . Military traditions like jackboots brown belts dress dangers even the style of marching originated in Prussia that Russia would copy. One thing that is defiantly Russian is the style of marching and the way the honor guard is holding the rifles. Pre ww2 German style was to hold the bottom the riflewoth one hand resting it completely on the shoulder at an angle. When marching you are to have the opposite hand flat. The Russian style is to use the similar motion but with a clenched fist and the rifle would be held strait up ,balanced by the hand and slightly rested on the chest for support and balance.

The east German NVA was at times considered as one of the best military trained forces in the world...they did this simply by maintaining only 170.000 selected individuals...the Prussian military tradition never existed on numbers, but rathere on well trained individuals...

Ich bin kein klassischer Wessi, habe aber in der Bundeswehr einige Jahre nach der Wende gedient. In der Grundausbildung hatte ich Schulungen mit ehemaligen NVA Offizieren. Mein lieber Scholli, das war schon ein anderer Schlag von Soldat. Gott sei Dank hat "unsere Seite" nie gegen die antreten müssen...

1963 ist mein Geburtsjahr, als die DDR ihr 14-jähriges Bestehen feierte. Ich hatte 7 Monate Zeit, Grüße an alle, die 1963 geboren wurden. Es ist ein wunderschönes Jahr
61 war besser denn Grenze war noch auf, hätte ich motorbetriebenen Kinderwagen gehabt wäre ich noch abgehauen

btw I looked into it why the Bundeswehr didn't use the goose step.
Apparently after WW2 West-Germany had no real Army, more like militia which had no parade regiments. The Bundeswehr was based on these militia and they orientated themselves on the US and French troops.
Thats why we never had goose steps in the west, East-Germany had many old officers from the Wehrmacht and based their marching and also their music on Prussia and Russia.

und ich habe mir den Film von Herrn Haußmann angesehen.
Da war nichts, aber auch gar nichts von "stolzsein" zu lesen. Und der Mann hatte selbst gedient.
Er spricht von Saufen und marschieren für den Weltfrieden
Die Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) war der größte Knast der DDR. Zehntausende junger Männer,, wurden gegen ihren Willen viele Monate lang in trostlosen Gegenden hinter Mauern und Stacheldraht festgehalten.
Mit Fassonschnitt, klobigen Stiefeln und schlecht sitzenden Drillichen sahen sie nicht nur aus wie russische Leibeigene des frühen 19.Jahrhunderts, sie führten praktisch auch deren Existenz. Zusammengepfercht in niedrigen Stuben bestand ihr Alltag aus Demütigungen, Stumpfsinn und Sklavenarbeit. Kurzurlaub gab es viermal im Jahr, Ausgang nicht viel öfter. Zu Hause liefen die Frauen weg, in der Kaserne führten die Männer gegeneinander Krieg. Es war ein gigantisches Programm kollektiver Erniedrigung, das der Staat, ohne Kosten und Mühen zu scheuen, organisiert hatte. Das Ganze hieß dann "Ehrendienst" zur "Sicherung des Weltfriedens."
. Die NVA hat sich bei Dienst-, Kleider- und anderen Vorschriften ausgerechnet auf Erfahrungen von Roter Armee und deutscher Wehrmacht stützte,
Auflösungsprozesse, die in den NVA-Männerwohnheimen herrschten, waren an derTagesordnung.
Es gab "Krieg" unter den Soldaten, weil auch in den Stuben Mielke immer gegenwärtig war.Das nannte man dann "Kameradschft
Wie brutal das System reagieren konnte zeigt ein Beispiel.
Ein rebellischer Rekrut muß in die Militärstrafanstalt Schwedt einrücken. Mit Mir-kann-keiner-was-Pose fährt er ab, zurück kommt er als militärischer Roboter. Was ist in Schwedt passiert??

But i wonder, don't you want to be really independant? Or free Germany died? Maybe it is not important anymore to german people. Than, if that is true, you are satellites to the core and cannot live other way.

Zarist Russia borrowed the Stechschritt from Prussia, had no problems letting NVA using it. An Army might have a national form as long as its content was Communist, according to USSR dogma.
Uniformen, besonders der Offiziere mit dem Säbel, den Hosen und den Stiefeln sowie Auftreten, Marschieren und einfach alles sieht so gut aus, warum haben wir nicht die Armee da übernommen bei der Wiedervereinigung?

The goosestep is very Russian for the enlisted me as they swing their arms to the core of their torso with a fist instead of a flat palm up to their belt buckle. A single officer Saluting whilst on the march is very Russian, Prussians would come to a stop first, then salute.
The parade formation is very Prussian with the NCOs/Officers gliding aft from the main ranks
From all the old photos and videos I've seen, the Soviets and Nazis always had very similar uniforms. Same hat style, same tunic, same jackboots, black leather trench coats etc. The only difference really being that the Germans used the Swastika as a symbol and the Soviets used the hammer and sickle. They also both tended to have a lot of red highlights on both uniforms as well. These East Germans basically look like what the Soviets did at this same time really. I would really just refer to this style as "the totalitarian look."

They were lucky to own a helmet, not mentioning that russian helmets looked like a potty. And furthermore, they humiliated germans after war by forcing them to wear that piss of shit too, what we currently observe in this video.

It was just a rehearsal. Unfortunately I have never seen a NVA up close, but I remember seeing one as a child on tv and it was fascinating.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Colombians and the Chileans. They are at least keeping alive that the tradition that is no longer alive in my homeland. I support them so much for allowing part of our culture to live. Unfortunately, after 70 years of American occupation, everything the Americans want they get. Our people, our tradition, have been completely bastardized.
The Chileans and Colombians were trained and taught the doctrine by the Prussian military itself though.

Здесь же, в армии ГДР, осталась традиционная германская униформа, с традиционными германскими знаками различия (погонами и прочим), изменения были минимальными. Советский Союз никоим образом против этого не возражал. А немцы в ГДР смотрели на этот парад и видели перед собой свою, ГЕРМАНСКУЮ армию, а не копию советской, американской или какой-либо ещё.

Es una verdadera lastima que el ejército alemán haya perdido sus tradiciones prusianas!!... independientemente de las circunstancias políticas de la antigua DDR, al menos ellos conservaban sus tradiciones militares prusianas, no como la actual Alemania que se sometió militarmente a los Estados Unidos. Nosotros acá en Chile, independientemente de las posiciones políticas, militarmente nos consideramos hijos de las tradiciones prusianas y como tal... ¡¡siempre las mantendremos y siempre las conservaremos!!...
Si los ejércitos no deberían sufrir grandes cambios como el ejército de la URSS todavía tenían rasgos del pasado zarista en sus uniformes especialmente en la armada que no se modifico
Es verdad...del ejercito alemán prusiano solo quedan sus marchas. Me sorprende que la RDA haya conservado el estilo de antes de la guerra. Y viendo el video, es como ver la Parada militar del 19!!

Wie oft die sich bei der Ausbildung im Formaldienst, wohl in die Hacken und so wohin getretten haben, bis das wirklich saß?
Nein wirklich das nenne ich Marschieren, und ich war damals bei der Bundeswehr ;).
Wofür ist das Marschieren-Lernen eigentlich nütze?
Ich meine: moderner Krieg besteht seit einem Dreivierteljahrhundert aus tierischem Robben im Schlamm.
Ohne Tradition gibt es nichts, mit dem man sich identifizieren kann. Ohne Tradition gibt es nichts, was man beschützen kann. Die NVA war die letzte Deutsche Armee, bei der es darum ging, das Heimatland und die deutschen Werte zu beschützen. Guckst du heute in den Reibert (Das Handbuch für den Wehrdienstleistenden der Bundeswehr) dann wird dort als Aufgabe der Bundeswehr das "Sicherstellen des Internationalen freien Handels und den Zugang zu den natürlichen Ressourcen der Erde" genannt. Für eine solche imperalistische Haltung braucht man keine Tradition, da es ohnehin nicht im Sinne der Bundeswehr liegt, deutsche Werte zu erhalten.
Wenn du die Beine beim Exerzierschritt nicht hoch bekommst tritt dir der Hintermann voll in die Waden und das ist sehr schmerzhaft kann ich dir aus eigener Erfahrung sagen ! ;-) Ich war auch bei der BW aber davor bei einer "richtigen Armee" !
@Der echte Hanika Napoleon hat durch seine effektiv marschierenden Truppen seine Siege eingefahren z.b. Aber der Formaldienst und die dazugehörigen Paradeschritte rund um die Welt, gehören ausschließlich nur zur nach außen gerichteten Repräsentation einer Armee, sind also ein Stück weit Militärtradition.

It is a real pity that the German army has lost its Prussian traditions !! ... regardless of the political circumstances of the former DDR, at least they retained their Prussian military traditions, not like the current Germany that submitted militarily to the United States . We here in Chile, regardless of political positions, militarily consider ourselves children of Prussian traditions and as such ... we will always keep them and always keep them !! ...
They retained very few traditions actually. Their marching is in the Russian style, there's no iron cross to be seen anywhere, they play very few traditional military marches and songs [you won't find marches like Preußens Gloria, Könnigrätzer Marsch or Defiliermarsch being played by the NVA] and the way they hold their weapons a lot of the times [I've yet to see any Prussian based military hold their rifles up against their chests]. They dress to look the part and that's it.
