Really excited to have discovered your channel, I also engage a lot with history, classics & mythology, so am keen to follow your bookish adventures. Hope your channel is a booming success. We can't have too much history.
@@apoetreadstowrite thank you so much, Phillip! I’m just editing my second video now and hoping folks will get excited about seventeenth century Canada!
Hi, Joanna! I'm looking forward to hearing about all bookish things you want to share with us. From an oldie content creator to a newbie, welcome aboard. We're so glad to have you here! Make sure to check out the going BookTube reading event called Historathon. We break up all of history into four periods and read history according to the dates set aside for each quarter. There's a Disc*rd (can't type it out or my message will get automatically blocked) if you're interested in dropping in, chatting about books, and trading recommendations with others. We'd love to have you participate.
I saw that earlier and was thinking of participating! A lot of the folks I follow were talking about it. I'll track down the D-thing and check it out! Thanks for letting me know!
Welcome to BookTube. When I think about history classes, I think about this teacher I had who told so many fascinating stories. It made me want to become an archeologist, but I never became one, as I was told I wasn't smart enough. Oh, well.... lol. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I see you have already some more videos up on your channel. I will definitely check them out when I have more time.
I'm sorry you were discouraged from being an archeologist. It's such a fascinating field of study! I love the number of archeologists on TH-cam and I really enjoy watching their stuff and learning more.
After I left grad school, I took a couple of years off from reading non-fiction, especially academic books. When I returned to it, being able to just read a history book without having to underline and take notes because I was looking for very specific information was so refreshing. I had to teach myself how to read a book for grad school, and then had to relearn how to read it for pleasure. This is a great video Joanna! I'm looking forward to watching what you have in store :)
Thanks so much, Matthieu! I don't know if I'm ever going to really recover my ability to read again. So much of what I do is still pillaging the books for lecture content or looking for specific points. Just spending the summer reading mostly Nancy Drew I was still constantly thinking about notes and analysis. Grad school really does hurt your brain.
Kia ora from New Zealand and a fellow booktube newbie and historian of sorts [well, I wrote two books on the Age of Sail]. Subbed for support and I look forward to seeing your channel grow. Best, Mark.
I tried to get a copy of Diggers, Hatters & Whores from my local bookstore but weirdly they did not have it. Who could imagine. But I'm going to see if the other one can order it in!
Thank you Kennedy! You're so kind to say so. Remember, for every five likes a dog will appear in a video! Also next week is demonic possession and I'm so excited.

Thanks Mark! I'm excited to talk about more fun history books I'm reading. Do you have any you'd recommend on the history of New Zealand?
@@JoannaLovesHistoryBooks The Penguin History of NZ, and 'Diggers, Hatters, and Whores' about the God rushes. Or any book on Maori history.

Could listen to you talk for hours! Or in this case 35 minutes 😂❤️
