As you may have noticed, I've been in the process of putting the Psalms to music for the last number of years... it's been such a cool experience to become intimately familiar with every word and phrase of these scriptures, to struggle with some of their meanings, to be moved by them, changed by them.
My arrangement of this Psalm, number 51, has become SO popular! Crazy! Most of my other Psalm have only a few hundred views.

Prayer for Cleansing and Pardon
To the leader. A Psalm of David, when the prophet Nathan came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you alone, have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence
and blameless when you pass judgement.
5 Indeed, I was born guilty,
a sinner when my mother conceived me.
6 You desire truth in the inward being;
therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from your presence,
and do not take your holy spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
14 Deliver me from bloodshed, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you have no delight in sacrifice;
if I were to give a burnt-offering, you would not be pleased.
17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,
19 then you will delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt-offerings and whole burnt-offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Notice the scripture says,
"restore unto me
the joy of my salvation",
not restore my salvation.
When I sin
I lose the joy of my salvation,
not my salvation.
Thank You Lord,
that You don't throw me away
when I sin,
but You wait patiently
for me to come crawling
back to You
to give me back
the joy of my salvation.
Actually, the ESV, KJV NAS, and Amplified Bible read, "...the joy of YOUR salvation..." and the song says,"...salvation from the Lord..." I haven't found any source that says ,"my salvation." I believe there to be a significance in the attribution of our salvation coming from the Lord. I am also a grammar Nazi. ;-)

He said "And I will never blot out his name from the book of life" because He DOES blot out names from the book of life! We are commanded to enter through the narrow gate. As Paul wrote in Galatians 5, "I warn YOU, ss I did before, that those who do such things will NOT inherit the kingdom of God." There's a danger in thinking you're saved no matter what sins you choose to live in.
"Hand that man over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, that his spirit MAY be saved in the day of salvation." THAT would not be necessary unless his salvation was at risk.
Yes, He doesn’t want a burnt offering, He wants a sacrifice of a heart.

I am touched by this song's lyrics. I have been into emotional distress since my beloved Mama passed away last year. I have been devastated. As a new Christian I accept whatever befalls on me but sometimes when my downtime comes, I shamefully ask God why this still happen despite I follow His will? It took me long to realize that when you do not totally repent and tell God what you really feel, downtime will always strike making you feel that you don't deserve to win any battle. Now, I am into it working it out my relationship with Him, Him helping me create a new and clean heart not only for myself but for HIM. I cannot live a day not talking to HIM. Thanks for this Song. The lyrics of this song are straight scripture! If you have a Bible I hope you read the entire passage. I say/sing it as a prayer sometimes, since I attended Lutheran church for a season and our pastor sang it. It’s really considered a «chant » and is a great way to memorize the psalms of David. If a pastor is musically trained, it really uplifts and adds to the service as opposed to just saying the words.
God wanted us to be at peace to come into this world

Somebody gave me Psalm 51 and Psalm 91 when I committed a sin.Psalm 51 is asking for forgiveness.I am a sinner so I seek God thru the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession remembering The 10 Commandment and The capital sins of PRIDE,ANGER,LUST,GREED,JEALOUSY,SLOTH AND GLUTTONY.

I came from Bible Illustrated, Bojan mentioned you by name and I wanted to hear your music. I have to say I looked particularly for Psalm 51 because as an Orthodox Christian, though I am a convert, this Psalm is emblazoned on my heart from reading/ chanting it every Sunday morning at Matins. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful rendition of singing this Psalm. You have gained a subscriber ☺️. Some of my Orthodox siblings forget that King David composed these with lyre and harp.

I like that you took time to come up with tunes to these hymns. I saw you advertise on Hillsong's website. Anyway, keep it up. " If Christ Be lifted up, He will lift people to Himself." There is also a few verses about offering and what God wants from us in Micah 6: 6-8. Read it and be blessed. What does the Lord require of us? (it is answered in that verse as well)
