Another great video! The IRL O-540 is not nearly so finicky at needing the throttle cracked to keep running on startup vs the sim. In many Comanches you start on only the Left mag then once you have 1000 RPM, switch to both - which will cause the RPM to rise about 200RPM so you have to be ready on the throttle to pull it back a bit. The 1000 RPM idle ensures oil gets moved around properly while the engine warms up. Once the engine is fully warm, lower idle speeds are OK.
Minor checklist item - aux fuel pump should be on for takeoff to ~1000' in case the engine driven pump fails. Easy one to forget to turn on or more often to forget to turn off after takeoff if you skip the climb checklist. When lighter than gross weight, the Comanche will fly off in the low to mid 70's and the A2A simulates this rather well.
With the EDM-830 mixture setting is pretty easy. For just about any power setting in the cruise table, lean to ~1450 EGT on the hottest cylinder and you'll be remarkably close to book best power fuel burn. You can also just lean to the book fuel flow - altough the fuel flow meter uses more averaging so it takes a bit longer to settle. Fuel flow will also vary with airspeed for a fixed throttle setting - so if adjusting off of fuel flow you need to be in trimmed level flight and have the airspeed settled.
In my '59 PA-24 the economy settings run rougher than I like, not unsafe just a bit more rumble than I like so I tend to stick with best power. The Comanche really shines in the 7000 - 9000 range in terms of True Airspeed vs fuel burn and it has the power to get to those altitudes faster than many other 4 place aircraft.

They are preparing the Comanche for distribution in the marketplace, hopefully that means an Xbox release coming soon!

Yours stay straight and narrow on takeoff. As did mine originally. It now veers violently, left or right.

You’re the second person to tell me that, the other person had the issue on landing. I told them to check their bindings on all connected devices, but if that doesn’t fix it, then you could open a thread on a2a’s forums, they are very responsive.

I am not a fan of using the ipad to work out your mixture. This is not available in the real aircraft, breaks immersion and is cheating. There are plenty videos on this subject on YT :)

There’s even videos on this channel on how to do it without the tablet :) I tossed up all the options and considering this video is targeted for beginners, being able to physically show what you were actually doing is a lot clearer for someone just leaning how mixture works.
