Pickwick Tourney (LEADING DAY 1 with BIG bag!!)

  • The final tournament in the hobie bass open series takes us to lake pickwick, second week of september. This so happens to be the same time of year I won the KBF southeastern Regional championship two years ago!! (That video is on my channel!) So needless to say, I was STOKED for this one! However... with about 13 other bass boat tourneys going on both during the week and weekend, the lake was experiencing an unprecedented amount of pressure. I checked the area I won, and it was covered in boats. So when that fails, I usually just go up river and junk fish and see what happens. I would end up finding a VERY good pattern that produced giant largies AND smallies!!

    Great vid. Be GLAD you didn't put in by the islands and grass. There were at least 15-20 yaks that put in at pride landing and another 15-20 bass boats all fishing that area, plus others that came in throughout the day. There was only maybe 2 kayak guys that did well outta all that mess. There was plenty of fish; but they were highly pressured, you had to think outside the box to get them and to get enough to get a good limit and some culls. I actually had a conversation at the ramp on friday and again on saturday. A lot of us that didn't know pickwick well and didn't get very much practice put in there mostly because of your pickwick video from 2 years ago. On friday another guy and myself discussed how crowded it would be right in that area because of your pickwick vids from winning the tournament at near the same time of the year on grass lines and grass flats by islands. People that didn't have anything else were gonna put in there solely from that video. Thats part of reason I put in there on practice, but tourney day i thought I had found a lil pattern within a pattern-----current pinch point between islands with bait and grass, I had it to myself,-- it just didn't pan out on tourney day.
    You made the right decision for sure, just goes to show why you are great at this sport and a fantastic decision maker---- and that history can not be trusted to provide winning level fish in seasons afterwards

    Well done! Love the thought process after seeing a bunch of anglers throwing movin baits to go against the grain, downsizing your cricket, and fishin slow. If I’ve learned anything from fishin derbs, usually the anglers that think differently do well….Whether it’s throwing an alternative bait, changing up their retrieve or time they let their cricket sit, or just finding that “needle in a haystack” type of spot. Rip their lips on Day 2, tight lines, and good luck!

    Kristine, have you tried a blue colored jig bait lure?

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably did not listen. To an interview that Greg Hackey did. Back in mid August this year. The stray casts series had Greg on. Just to talk about fishing in general. At one stage. When talking about competitions. They were talking about numbers of bites. Per day. In tournaments. Versus number of fish landed.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've finished watching day's one and two. Of the lake Pickwick tournament. A couple of times. The large bag of fish. That was won on day one. And then. The early morning bite again. On day two. To follow up the success. Of the first day.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Around an hour into Greg Hackneys talk. With the presenter in Stray Casts episode. In last August. Greg started to talk about early morning bites in general. And the colors that he works with. He spoke about using blue colored baits. For low light. It's something. That if you ever look at any anglers. In northern latitudes. Speak about their Atlantic salmon fishing too. It comes up. As in summer times (as those Atlantic salmon move to freshwater systems). And our days are longer. In the northern parts of the globe. A lot of anglers. Speak about it too. They'll hold on to blue colors. And variations of that color scheme. When they often fish. Either later night and evening. Or early morning. As the pitch black. Turns into first light.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the last color. To entirely go away. When there is no light at all. It's also a color. That might 'last' longer. At depth. Than a lot of other colors. Greg Hackney was talking. He compares it. When he's fishing Texas rig set ups. And fishing jig baits. From my understanding. Of the bass angling. Anglers have ways. In which they will buy the very same packets of soft plastic bait. And use the same. In it's full size and dimension. On a Texas rig system. Or alternatively. They will make. A trailer for their jig. Using a soft plastic worm with a paddle tail. Or a craw dad soft plastic. They will reduce in size. And make it simple. Often breaking down the silicon skirt a little too. In order to use the same. On a jig system.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's something that Greg Hackney talked about though. And we find it. Often when fishing for salmon and trout. How the weight is distributed. On the hook (Hackney complained a little in the episode about making hooksets with the Texas rig). The relationship of the weight. To the hook. Is different. To the jig bait set up. And while he explained. It may take a whole day. Waiting for 'one' bite. From a decent fish. Per each hour in a tournament situation. On the jig bait. He was confident he said. Of having a good chance. Of landing a fish. On a jig system. Versus the Texas rig.

    Since when can a tournament angler tell someone fishing for fun to leave?

    • @kristinefischer2289
      @kristinefischer2289  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s just a respect things in some folks eyes- the tournament angler is usually fishing to put food on the table, so if they have a small spot and someone’s there just fun fishing for a bit, some guys ask if they could just leave that small area alone. If I were the non tourney angler, and I have been, I ALWAYS let the guys in competition fish their stuff. I can always fish elsewhere. But I also don’t ask people to leave either when I’m tourney fishing. Of course it’s nice when they do, but I’m one of the ones who don’t ask

    Why do people fishing on the bank have to move because you say so because you are doing a tournament.not right they were there first

    • @kristinefischer2289
      @kristinefischer2289  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I was there first. Fished there all day. And I never told the angler to move. The other kayaker asked him if he wouldn’t mind giving space. I’m always polite and ask if there’s a stretch I’d like to fish. If I’m not fishing a tournament and another angler is, out of respect I usually let them have the right of way because I’m not fishing for anything. It isn’t a rule, it’s just something I do. Doesn’t mean everyone has to
