Hi thanks for the video. I opened my 212 awhile ago and I’ve only just added funds. Your video finally gave me the confidence to do it. But 212 is giving me options of stocks isa or cash isa. In this video which one did you open in the example.
Same boat as you...but people like Damien...Dave Ramsey etc say there is no such thing as too late. 20 years time you can have few hundred k or as much as you're able to put into index funds...they say its mot sexy...but a steady 7% for 20 years isn't to be sniffed at. Go on a compound calculator and play around with deposit amounts to.give you idea what you can afford...and what you will accrue. 💪🏾
Keep going mate I started at 41... was in 13K debt and living in my overdraft. I'm now debt free have a 20K emergency fund. 30K saving pot and just surpassed ~£200K. Proper portfolio diversification is key... I am almost 43 now!
@ I lost a lot chasing individual stocks and I feel pretty stupid for not understanding how investing works. I have a double major in economics but hell I’ve been struggling to make sense of the market. Well done on profits!
Keep it simple, invest in what you understand, take some risk but don't try to shoot the lights out. I’m invested in ETFs, REITs, and Individual bluechip company stocks and use a CFA. On average, she takes 10% of earnings, but using Lina Dineikiene's system makes it much more hands-off. I conservatively follow her recommendations and market entry and exit points, and tbh this makes it fairly simple for me... I am convinced it's not just hard work but smart work:-)
The British public can’t be blamed for not investing, because as you mentioned Damien, there’s been zero financial education from the Education system. It’s not seen as for us ordinary people. Thankfully we have you and a few others on YT to do that. Thanks for your insight and hard work you do. 🙌🏻👌🏻
Same as in Germany. If I remember correctly you guys at least have finance classes in some schools (which is unheard of in Germany). Also it's even discouraged by some of the ruling parties (looking at the SPD and the greens). There's not even a possibility of saving for retirement in something other than a regular brokerage account.
Plus when you do make these accounts sometimes you do a quiz and if you get one answer wrong they literally tell you that you’re uneducated and not ready for it. I’ve still not invested anything as a result of these because I still don’t know what all of the types of funds are, I’m a bit scared but I can afford to lose £10 so it might be time to just do it against advice :D
School isn't about teaching you every last thing you could possibly use, it's about eventually building the skills for you to be able to find out information for yourself. If you need to know about investment, or car maintenance, or fitness, or how to do your taxes, there is a wealth of information available and school will have given you the skill you need to find that information and to learn from it.
Thank you for ACTUALLY telling me how to invest. I’m 19 years old and literally need investing and finances spoon feeding until I become more comfortable
Reason i decided to work closely with a brokerage adviser ever since the market got really tense and the pressure became too much. I should be retiring in 17 months, so l've had a brokerage adviser guide me through the chaos. It's been 9 months now, and l've made approximately 650K net from all of my holdings.
Time in the market beats timing the market. Might be the most valuable lesson I’ve learned so far. It doesn’t need to be very complicated but you do need to be consistent.
@@DamienTalksMoney I'm glad I took your encouragement and the "free share" and signed up with Trading 212. No problems there HOWEVER... The free share appears on my account but the price shows as part of my ISA allowance. I understand why, but given the absolute limit of £20K, accidentally going over the allowance is possible and could cause problems. Perhaps flag this issue? Assuming I have not misunderstood things.
Unfortunately, that's about right. I'm Kenyan, my hubby is British. Getting him to invest in anything is nearly getting me a brain fracture. 😢 He says everything is a scam.
Thank you so much for your videos and for sharing your knowledge in such an accessible way. I've only recently begun watching you and a couple of other (British) YTs on the subject of personal finances & investing but I've learned so much. And like soooo many Brits, I was actually a bit scared when it came to moving some of my 'squirrelled away' money from what I thought were 'safe' accounts into a T212 ISA. But am I ever glad I have! Of course like you say, things will go up and down over time so no-one's getting rich overnight. But £700 invested has already grown more in a few weeks than £2,000 in a bank cash ISA has in a year! So c'mon Brits, watch Damien's vids & get with the program! I'm rubbish at puns but I did enjoy the T-shirts 😆

Excellent video that really gave me the confidence to try investing. I did a bit of reading, and articles kept suggesting Bonds as a relatively safe investment. I've 200 copies of Goldeneye on DVD due to arrive on Monday. So excited!
Hiya, I'm a Maths and Business Studies teacher in a Secondary school, where we've just opened up a sixth form where I'm teaching Core Maths and a BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurship course. I'm so happy that I've found your video because I am definitely going to show my students these on the lessons and educate them how to start investing. I am going to start investing myself, so we can share our experiences. I'm so excited and can't wait to see how this is going to evolve. I hope other teachers out there in the UK are willing to do the same so we can create a different culture around investments. Also, if you'd have some free time, I'd love to invite you as a guest speaker for these sixth-former students. Many thanks for you clear explanation in the video.
What I like about your videos is that you are not telling people to buy this and buy that as a dead cert. You are very open about making your own choice and about understanding what your appetite for risk is. Great vids and channel 👍
I had problem comprehending trading in general. I tried watching other TH-cam trading channels, but they made the concepts more complicated. I was almost giving up until when i discovered content and explain everything in detail. The videos are easy to follow
I’ve just started investing at the grand old age of 37, coming from a working class family, they were very much in favour of ‘squirrelling’ money away for a rainy day so I’ve gone on my own journey to educate myself about investing, thanks for providing such great information. Although, don’t come for Keanu, national treasure right there! 🤣
Successful investing is hard work because it means disciplining your mind to do the opposite of human nature. Buying during a panic, selling during euphoria, and holding on when you are bored and just craving a little action. Investing is 5% intellect and 95% temperament.
You need a Financial Advisor my friend so you don't get ripped off in the market. They provide personalized advice to individuals based on their risk appetite, placing them among the best of the best. There are bad ones, but some with good track records can be very good.
Interesting, Mind if I ask you recommend this particular professional you use their service? honestly right now i have quite a lot of marketing problems.
‘Sharon Marissa Wolfe’ is the licensed advisor I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
She appears to be a true authority in her profession with over two decades of experience. I looked her up on the internet and skimmed through her site, very professional. already sent her an inquiry hoping for a response soon.
Great content! as the world crisis progresses the smartest thing people do lately is building a strong investment that isn’t controlled by the government. Like digital currencies.
Building wealth involves good habits and risks like putting money into solid investments like digital currencies, having a good financial manager is what people tend to shy away from, and it keeps hunting them in the near future after many losses, be disciplined and get certified advisor pray that anyone reading this will be successful!!!
You are completely right about the UK. My dad said it was worse than gambling. I’m going to start with a small pot £250 and hopefully it will give me the confidence to invest monthly to build on. Thanks for the vid !
Kudos. Well explained. If the UK is lagging in investing, what can I say about Africa? There are more religious fanatics than financial educators. Using 212 now.
Watched this video three times since it came out before I finally had the funds and the confidence to give it a go. Thank you as always Damien, you're really making a difference to a lot of people out there :)
Thank you very much, Im 55 and working in NHS , you gave me a ray of hope and confident to start to invest in UK for preparing retirement for both me and my wife, Really appreciate it !!!
With markets tumbling, inflation soaring, the Fed imposing large interest-rate hike, while treasury yields are rising rapidly-which means more red ink for portfolios this quarter. How can I profit from the current volatile market, I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $125k bond/stocck portfolio.
The market is volatile at this time, hence i will suggest you get yourself a financial-advisor that can provide you with entry and exit points on the shares/ETF you focus on.
very true, I started investing before the pandemic and that same year I pulled a profit of about $600k with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was seeking guidance to make a from a financial-advisorr, you can be passively involved with the aid of a professional.
Just made the first step into investing and opened trading 212 account, with your code I got a free share in BP. I wasn’t expecting a free stock of such huge company. Already has me excited to see how it performs and learn how it all works before I actually buy one proper. For now I’m happy to have a spare grand sitting there doing the same it would in my savings account.
Brilliant video, Damien!!! Learned something today. Never knew that I could create the separate pie for my sons and i was thing for long time how to invest for them. I was considering junior ISA but now I think I will use your idea! Thanks
Thank you for detailing that long-term means at least a decade. I pulled a lot of my money out of my stocks and shares ISA in 2022/23 because it was a very volatile year. My returns were in the negative month on month, I was depositing £500 pcm. I did end up needing the money I drew down (Masters degree), but I kept a grand in there. This video has given me the confidence to increase my monthly deposits from the minimum, to at least £100. I can stomach that and the possible volatility at that amount. I'm glad I stayed in the game in 2024, and now I'm aware that ten years plus is what I need to keep in mind.
I have a 5 figure portfolio on T212, but I still clicked on Damien's how to start investing video. Appreciate the time and money effort that went in to those t-shirts! In other news did you hear about that marijuana stock? Buy high, sell higher!
I can relate... My dad is just the same and the more he ages the more stubborn he gets. I really wish he could invest, even when he sees how good it's been for me, he still doesn't budge!
Thank you so much, I am kinda mad cause while I was growing up no one ever taught me how to invest nor should I. In my country buying property is a way to do it but I don't want to have a property there at all! What to do? Invest!!
Thank you, genuinely been meaning to dip my toe into this stuff but kinda always was feared to. Going to sit down and really delve into this video over the next week and start
I have just found your channel and love your content! Really well put together and easy to understand! I just started investing this year at the age of 27, and so glad I have! It's been a big learning curve but actually quite enjoyable.
Another well produced video Damien. Thank you. Here is my thought of the day for you: An economist, an accountant and a lawyer decided to gamble…. And that’s how stock markets came into existence!
just wanted to say i have recently come across this channel after looking into saving and investing my self, while i have done for a few years i have only started taking it more seriously recently. This channel is by far my favourite (ignoring the uk bias i have) but also because damien makes stuff actually make sense. i feel like sometimes when doing my own research i'm just ramming my head into a brick wall trying to learn all these new terms etc. But this channel does a good job of answering questions while clearing up any confusing terminology. I also agree the education around finance in this country is terrible.
Thank you for the video! I learned a lot tonight. However, I’m curious about how to identify a good investment plan. Is it necessary to work with a financial advisor?
Another great video Damien, thank you. You show how easy it can be to get into investing, when it is normally sold as a dark art to keep the everyday person out and keep it for the elite.
This is the first such video I've watched. I'm approaching 50, have a good local authority pension lined up and owe not much on my mortgage (could settle it with a credit card). My wife deals with all finances and i just get pocket money. Have decided that rather than buy toys and video games, I'm going to start sticking a few ££ here and there and invest it. Going to follow your advice and start today. Thanks for the clear video from someone who, financially at least, doesn't know their arse from their elbow.
I’ve been watching your videos for sometime now, after loosing a bit of money in ISAs in 2008 I’ve stuck with cash savings until today. Thanks for the walkthrough guide, I’ve now started my investment journey!
Question. I have a NHS pension pot (no longer in the NHS). Thinking sending some to a vanguard ISA ready account. Would that affect my Universal credit? Thanks Love the info how simple you make things
Loved the rant at the end lol. Thank you for the advice, what do you think of creating a custom pie with the S&P/FTSE companies rather than buying x shares? Also if you had a lump sum of money that is intended to get invested, would you drip feed via a regular monthly deposit, or wack a lot of it in @once ? thanks :)
Great video, this answered a lot of questions I've always had about investing and in particular what trading platforms do. Bit of a cash crunch for me this month but I know where all my spare £ in June is going.
Im absolutly new to imvesting and this is goving me some confidence to start but i have one question. If i buy into a certain thing and then the value really drops will there ever be a scenario where you owe money or will it just be that your investment will turn into fractions of a penny
Hi Damien, thank you for your videos just starting my investment journey due to lack of knowledge and having to work another 10 years until I can retire, better late than never! My question is if I open the account with T212 as an Isa is this considered the Isa account. Sorry sounds a bit dippy but for a cash isa I would ie open one at my back, but for S&S isa this is opened when signing up on a trading account is that correct? And if so and I go over 20k should I open a second trading account separate from the isa one if possible?
You need to open a stocks and shares ISA with 212 for it to be an isa account. You have 20K total annual limit across all your ISA accounts so you can pay in 20k in total across all the isa types including your cash. Watch the latest video on my channel i show you how to use 212 step by step
Why don't financial advisors ever get lost? They always know the best way to hedge their bets. 😅 the best I can come up with! I’m loving the videos keep em coming!❤
I've started investing in January 2023 after one of your video, thanks! This video isn't for me, but I'll link it to whoever I think could use the same "push".
I have started to invest, only a small amount, I think I put £20 in. I purchased some IBM which is up 4% from when I brought the stock. I also get dividend payments as well. Which I think is a good idea for someone.
Are individuals still holding crypto coin and stocks? I didn’t know that , I guess a few know about integrating into the micro economy to help substitute FIAT or usdt for a more tangible exchange Experience, it more like capitalization with about 43.307% profits/ ROI weekly though.. Anna Dorris Arthur ,got me covered!
A lot of this still goes back to financial education needed for everyone/should be taught in school from 1st year/7th grade (ish?) onwards. Knowing how pensions work, not being scared of investing etc. are more important than squaring up with a hippopotamus on the other side of the quadrangle...
With of the market cap weighted eft being heavily weighted by a few large companies, do you think it makes sense to go for an equal weighted etf? And in particular, would you say there is more importance to this topic for an S&P 500 etf?
I made my account last year but only just made my first investment. I tried to use the promo code but it said only for accounts made in the last 10 days :( Is there anything else I can do to get the free gift?
Great vid Damien, I'm on t212 too and have set up a lisa for me and jisa's for my kids with HL thanks to your content. I was thinking about investing in some mining stocks because they've recently hit rock bottom, I'm so sorry 😅
How do we invest ethically? The Baillie Gifford at Hay Festival situation highlights a growing focus on ethical investing. How can we ensure we’re investing in the ‘right’ things?
If you were investing £10,000 in ETF's and Index funds, which would you choose? This goes out to everyone. And do they all payout dividends every 3 months? Is that standard across the board??

I must have already signed up 212 before . Now it just asks me to login and doesn’t come up with three options of what account to choose . Is there way to choose again . I don’t know what current account even is
Awesome video Damien, I have just started investing because of watching your videos @42 wish I had started a lot earlier, but as you said in your earlier video now probably is the time I have a little more spare money. Loved this vid too made me LOL more than once, cheers for all the interesting and informative info you put out there.
If you get dividents to reinvest since they are american companies mostly, dont you pay a fee to get the money before you reinvest? Does that not make ACC more profitable?? You r great. This video is great to explain to many of my friends.
I appreciate that you're not a financial advisor but remember hearing about how the goverment will give you 25% on top of your investment for a lifetime isa so would doing a lifetime isa through a highstreet bank be better than trading212? I'm confused how they can both be an ISA but the trading212 route isn't the same.
Hi Damien, I always struggle to get my head around why should I invest into anything else other than my pension. Particularly when paying 40% tax and having the ability to use salary sacrifice and select a fund via my provider. Keen to know your thoughts around this if possible? Thanks for the content once again👍
Damo I heard that labour is looking into capping the capital gains on stocks and shares ISAs to £100,000 is there any truth to this and is it something you have any thoughts on I'd love to hear what you think as I grown to trust your opinion and value your content would you be willing to make a short video on the subject and is there any way to mitigate this as I'm long term dividend investing my way to my first million through PCA( pound cost averaging would love to hear back from you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

The market is volatile at this time, hence i will suggest you get yourself a financial-advisor that can provide you with entry and exit points on the shares/ETF you focus on.
very true, I started investing before the pandemic and that same year I pulled a profit of about $600k with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was seeking guidance to make a from a financial-advisorr, you can be passively involved with the aid of a professional.
wow ,that’s stirring! Do you mind connecting me to your advisor please. I desperately need one to diversified my portfolio.
BONITA JEANETTE RODRIGUEZ
That’s my licesed Financial advisor you can easily look her up, Thank me later!
Thank you for this amazing tip. I just looked the name up, wrote her explaining my financial market goals and scheduled a call
Brilliant and straight to the point. No need for investing to be complicated! Great video, Damien 👍
You have the best video editor in the world!
Thanks
I’ve been inspired. Thank you 🎉❤
Please make a video on how to invest in sp5000 index funds
My brother said I should invest in Doritos, but instead I bought the dip.
Buy high, sell higher!
marijuana stock you say, think I need to know more for research.
I can relate... My dad is just the same and the more he ages the more stubborn he gets. I really wish he could invest, even when he sees how good it's been for me, he still doesn't budge!
I have a 5 figure portfolio too... £00001 👀😂
You got yourself a T shirt! pop me an email on damientalksmoney @ gmail.com and i will get you one in the post.
Thank you so much, I am kinda mad cause while I was growing up no one ever taught me how to invest nor should I. In my country buying property is a way to do it but I don't want to have a property there at all! What to do? Invest!!
I'd love a shirt. Why did the investor open a bakery? Because he wanted to make some dough!
You got yourself a T shirt! pop me an email on damientalksmoney @ gmail.com and i will get you one in the post.
@@DamienTalksMoney Thanks Damien, I've just sent you an email.
Thank you, genuinely been meaning to dip my toe into this stuff but kinda always was feared to. Going to sit down and really delve into this video over the next week and start
Did you do it?
I have just found your channel and love your content! Really well put together and easy to understand! I just started investing this year at the age of 27, and so glad I have! It's been a big learning curve but actually quite enjoyable.
Another well produced video Damien. Thank you.
Here is my thought of the day for you:
An economist, an accountant and a lawyer decided to gamble…. And that’s how stock markets came into existence!
No pun, but I just wanted to say this was my favourite video yet. Absolutely bang on!
just wanted to say i have recently come across this channel after looking into saving and investing my self, while i have done for a few years i have only started taking it more seriously recently.
Entirely agree. Opened a Vanguard general account a couple of days ago and discovered I’m more comfortable with risk than I thought!
Thank you for the video! I learned a lot tonight. However, I’m curious about how to identify a good investment plan. Is it necessary to work with a financial advisor?
@HannahDice-r6p How can I find a trustworthy investment advisor
@HannahDice-r6p Thanks for sharing. searched for her full name and her website popped up, I set up a call with her
Yes is good. I have been working with Sophiekathrynjones for 3 years now and is all testimonies for me. You can search for the name.
Jones is the last name while Kathryn is the middle name.
Thanks to you and a guy at work i have started investing a few weeks ago so far so good thank you!
Amazing! Keep at it even when it is a bumpy ride
Mid 30s now feel like i have only just got my life together so missed out on investing earlier. Would love to start
Another great video Damien, thank you. You show how easy it can be to get into investing, when it is normally sold as a dark art to keep the everyday person out and keep it for the elite.
Honestly…been watching your recent videos all day - love your stuff, brilliant! Put that on a t-shirt…haha!
Well said Damien, investing and money matters needs to be taught at schools.
What is the best thing to invest on
Please can you guide me into this Tesla stock investment?
Please can you drop her details here, I'll like to reach out to her for a start_up.
Please I'd love to connect her for a start up, how?
Monday
Sending this to my sister!! Thank you sir!
Exactly the reaction I wanted! Your sister should thank you. Legend of a brother
I even called her to push it.. 😅 she said she hasn’t got anything to invest I said it’s the knowledge you should have for when you do..! 😂😊
If you would like a t shirt send me an email on damientalksmoney @ gmail.com you can send it to your sister haha
@@DamienTalksMoney I sent you an email! I so excited!
Great matter of fact approach to the content there pal, got a sub from me!
I’m 12 and a you tube short inspired me to think about this I got £60
I’ve been watching your videos for sometime now, after loosing a bit of money in ISAs in 2008 I’ve stuck with cash savings until today. Thanks for the walkthrough guide, I’ve now started my investment journey!
Question. I have a NHS pension pot (no longer in the NHS). Thinking sending some to a vanguard ISA ready account. Would that affect my Universal credit?
Thanks Love the info how simple you make things
Thank you Damien great video and advice
Loved the rant at the end lol. Thank you for the advice, what do you think of creating a custom pie with the S&P/FTSE companies rather than buying x shares? Also if you had a lump sum of money that is intended to get invested, would you drip feed via a regular monthly deposit, or wack a lot of it in @once ? thanks :)
Straight Outta Compound.
Great video, this answered a lot of questions I've always had about investing and in particular what trading platforms do. Bit of a cash crunch for me this month but I know where all my spare £ in June is going.
it's almost like they don't want to educate us from the get go, big up for your content Damien!
Im absolutly new to imvesting and this is goving me some confidence to start but i have one question. If i buy into a certain thing and then the value really drops will there ever be a scenario where you owe money or will it just be that your investment will turn into fractions of a penny
Thanks for the great info - just set up a 212 account with your code and now have shares (free) in Airbus - exciting :)
I’m loving the videos keep em coming!❤
love your content , you make it entertaining too lol thanks bro
Ones a cash isa and the other is a stocks isa which one why is there 2
I've started investing in January 2023 after one of your video, thanks!
Anna Dorris Arthur on the web
I just checked her up on google, she’s verified and licensed broker.
I’ll give it a try with $3000 and see how it goes
When I got up to a million from Anna Dorris Arthur I had to retire my parents and get them a new apartment, we’re now debt free.
A lot of this still goes back to financial education needed for everyone/should be taught in school from 1st year/7th grade (ish?) onwards. Knowing how pensions work, not being scared of investing etc. are more important than squaring up with a hippopotamus on the other side of the quadrangle...
Enjoyed this video so much! The T shirts were the icing on the cake 👌
Is that a Dudley accent?. Great video. On Trading212 thrre are 4 options to choose, 2 are ISAs. Do i pick STOCK ISA or CASH ISA? TIA.
I opened an invest engine account. Currently do the managed portfolio what is the difference between this and switching to vwrp?
T shirt pun "Stay Indexed: Let your Money Do the Heavy Lifting!" 😅😅😅
With of the market cap weighted eft being heavily weighted by a few large companies, do you think it makes sense to go for an equal weighted etf? And in particular, would you say there is more importance to this topic for an S&P 500 etf?
I made my account last year but only just made my first investment. I tried to use the promo code but it said only for accounts made in the last 10 days :( Is there anything else I can do to get the free gift?
Thank you Damien, I've been meaning to do this for some time now, and finally just started thanks to your video!
Amazing! Well done for getting started. Stay consistent through thick and thin and it will transform your life
Great vid Damien, I'm on t212 too and have set up a lisa for me and jisa's for my kids with HL thanks to your content.

Thankyou for demystifying this subject to a financial simpleton like myself. Cheers
Cleaned out the rest of my stocks and shares ISA and went all in on bitcoin. Best decision I ever made :)
I put money in ETFs on trading 212, does it mean if I create ISA account and move my ETFs share to there, I wont be charged for taxes?
Please reply,
Hi Damien, I always struggle to get my head around why should I invest into anything else other than my pension. Particularly when paying 40% tax and having the ability to use salary sacrifice and select a fund via my provider. Keen to know your thoughts around this if possible?
Thanks for the content once again👍
lol loved the puns, great video and humour you add on to wait are traditionally dry and confusing topics is great!
Nice one Damien. I'm giving invest engine a go this year with regular deposits 🎉
I cannot seem to find an equivalent of a Stocks and shares ISA/ Roth ira for The republic of Ireland. Anyne know anything?
Amazing explaining pal 🙏🙏🙏
Damo I heard that labour is looking into capping the capital gains on stocks and shares ISAs to £100,000 is there any truth to this and is it something you have any thoughts on I'd love to hear what you think as I grown to trust your opinion and value your content would you be willing to make a short video on the subject and is there any way to mitigate this as I'm long term dividend investing my way to my first million through PCA( pound cost averaging would love to hear back from you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
How about the resticted use of Traduing 212 on one machine only. And what about customer service. It also takes 3 days to get youre money out!
Great video, in fact I actually sent it to my wife to watch, she usually thinks any sort of investment is far too risky!
Came for the t shirts stayed for the excellent video. Totally agree. We need financial literacy in high schools.
