Things change. Curry Village is rebranding their tent cabins as "glamping." I hear the Ahwahnee has installed air conditioning. Camp Six (just across the river from Housekeeping) was wiped out by the flood at the turn of the century is now a parking lot. The Valley is still incredible and tight.

You will need to book a year and a day in advance. There are some hardball cabins in Curry Village, but for some reason they are very difficult to book. Just a step down from the Lodge rooms, but have walls and bathrooms. As said, the Lodge is the best price point for the biggert buck. The Aswane is insanely expensive upwards of $700 a night. Best time to visit is in May when the falls are all flowing even in a fairly dry winter. NEVER book near a holiday always plan to stay midweek to avoid the worst of the crowds. Park your car and take the shuttles, they are once again running enough buses that you won't have a really long wait.

Good video. Good suggestions. If you stay at the Wawona (when it opens) & you are there either Fri or sat. give a listen to the piano bar ranger, Tom Bopp. He plays 5-9 both eves.

Any tips on actually getting a campsite reserved? Everything is probably already booked up for 2020. I’ve been unsuccessful at getting half dome permits, or any backpacking permits because of the wilderness act. I’ve tried for 2 years now to explore yosemite with no success.

      backpacking permits?? whats that?

@@UtterlyHooves Yosemite backcountry backpacking permits have been "required" since the mid 70's. Half Dome permits began issuing in the 90's iirc. It was painful back in the 60's when they no longer let us drive wherever we wanted to in Tuolumne meadows.

thats the problem anywhere in the world. they say camping is a cheap, budget holiday oops "vacation" as my American friends like to say. but as in Britain, Europe or America in peak season the prices can be well, extortionate to say the least. try camping in Scotland, Cornwall (southwest England) or mainland Europe during the height the pitch prices will scare you to death especially if you have a caravan or RV with electric hook up. i imagine Yosemite is the same???

Yes. Stanley Kubrick painstakingly recreated the interior as close as possible himself.

No Huachuca....they were sets in a sound stage in England. The interiors of the Overlook were based on the Ahwahnee (mostly the 1st floor) The exterior was based on The Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood, Oregon. The front of the hotel shot was the Timberline. The back of the hotel where the fake maze had been was created outside the sound stages.
