The story about the super manipulative, lying friend, brings me back to years ago when I had a close friendship with a guy who, unbeknownst to me, was a delusional schizophrenic. You put faith in people, think that they’re telling the truth, and then you realize that none of their supposed truths line up, and everything is a lie and fabrication. And his case, I don’t think he actually knew he was lying because his brain we just automatically invent things and then try to weave them been together so that they presented correctly to others. He seemed Corky, but essentially normal to people who didn’t know him well with the more time you spent with him the more you realized there were something deeply wrong. And that also included him dropping hints. I haven’t been institutionalized several times. Once I realized this, I couldn’t even speak to him anymore. Which sounds terrible, but I really felt like there was a massive breach of trust and that I could never believe anything he said ever again..

Story 3: Perhaps this is because I lived anything but a sheltered life, but it seems to me that the author is incredibly sheltered. This is not a fault; just an observation. By her age I could spot a girl like her evil friend miles away -- but I'm not here to downgrade her story. I'm more worried about her going to NYC than anything else because there are far worse people in the world who will do things that make manipulation and lies look like nothing. They're everywhere, I know, but certain places hold disproportionately larger concentrations, NYC being one of those places. But with the bad, also comes the good. That's also in disproportionately larger concentrations. NYC is an amazing place.
Whomever the author is, she sounds like a lovely girl and I want her to be very, very careful: Head on a swivel, always get verification, vet everything, carry some kind of weapon, take self defense classes (not optional), don't tell anyone but family if you travel, batteries charged, know where you are and where you're going at all times no matter who's driving, orientate yourself with public transportation early and often (you always need it), never go to a 2nd private location, always keep your door locked and vote. Safety deposit boxes are your best friend because one day you will get robbed; make peace with that. Learn when to break the rules and pick your battles. After all that I hope you have an exciting time in the most wonderful way. I'm so proud of you for living out your dreams, on your terms. I really hope your parents are too.💜
