  • Khatzumoto reminds you that Japanese isn't as complex as others make it out to seem...you can do it!
At the time of this video being made, the AJATT blog has been inaccessible/taken offline :( I found a good (mostly complete) backup of the website so I should be back to making these videos again. My current plan is to finish this series (300-400 videos by my estimations) before the end of the year so please subscribe if this interests you!

Note: This is all unofficial and fan-made, Khatzumoto does not endorse this in any way!
I've been wanting to make this for such a long time so I'm so happy to finally be bringing it to you! The video part is extremely boring (sorry!) as I know absolutely nothing about editing and making nice visuals. The main point of this, though, is to allow you to listen and learn as you're doing something else, so feel free to turn off your screen and let the copyright free music and my poor narration flow into your earholes (lol).
Please let me know your thoughts and things you think I should change going forward. Cheers!

Yes! I hear this all the time from people, about learning new languages in general. "You have an ability for learning languages." Well akshually, you do too!
Paraphrasing Arthur C. Clarke (Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.), apparently consistent practice is indistinguishable from magic.

The overall impression that Japanese is ridiculously hard comes from the way how it's being taught here.
Japanese is a very straightforwardly and agilely built up language that has such a high consistency in itself that any other languages don't even come close in formulating the same concepts in such a slick way - so what do they start doing?
Pressing and forcing Western grammar concepts onto something that has never heard of nor needed such bs..
"Conjugations" like English has are in reality a myth in Japanese, as it's actually all so called "Helper words" that you're adding on one of the six flexion stems (連用形、未然形、終止形、連体形、命令形、已然形), yet all kinds of Textooks teach Japanese as if it were English by virtually bombarding learners with abstract grammar rules you'd drily have to hammer into your head before even getting the "basics" down.
srsly this whole scheme on how it's being taught here comes real close to a freakin conspiracy and is the 一番 reason why so many ppl freak out about it.
I'm learning Japanese for 3 years and can count myself lucky I had quite early on found my way into the "non-conspiracy" way of learning - and witnessing such a contrast on how straightforward this language actually is from a japanese point of view vs what western 'teachers' or 'teaching materials' make of it is certainly beyond bananas.
Do not let folks and myths discourage you; just try to find a consistent and non brute-force way from entities that aren't like the infamous default B-stock type of immersion.
