Faker, before going pro, was actually only playing normal games but he was too good, he had to wait for a very long time in queue before he gets matched. That was why he switched to ranked games.

T1 almost did it in 2016. They took everything but MSI, losing in finals during 5th game vs EDG Morgana that year. Might have been 2015. Either way, they almost did it. Only lost 1 game at Worlds that year, 15-1.
I feel like this was a statement series from Faker. He got tired of hearing how Chovy was the new "goat" with the best mechanics - so he went and stomped Chovy out of relevance in both games. If Faker stays in this form, it's another world championship on his banner.
