I remember studying something similar in an engineering class once. It's cool how some patterns look so cool and complex but are kinda simple in execution
Nature itself is simplex. It's all entangled together in complex bonds and patterns but after you've broken it down and observed it from 10 ft above its all very simple mechanics working together in tandem.
Was lowkey devastated you did a video fade into the new designs instead of letting us watch the erasure, but I guess the end of this video made up for it. Everything is ephemeral, watching the sand be reset is such a satisfying reminder. thank you!
This is so much more than Geometry, I literally felt hypnotized. The camera angle.. the sound... the fluidity of the movements, the work of art... Amazing !
Everyone takes something away. Mine was the sheer arm control on how steady and delicate the lines/patters look. I just have alot of respect for people who can do amazing art in a single stroke.
@@dongvermine Then go watch a damn Martial arts tournament "Idiot". If you didn't come for the damn sand patterns then screw off with your "Oh so esteemed tastes" as the title clearly says "Geometry Study".
This scratches my brain in a way nothing else can. And I feel incredibly calm. This video could be useful for someone in the midst of an anxiety or panic attack
There's a fair bit of cultural historical reasons for your reaction. This relates to a centuries-long tradition of Japanese aesthetics that have a lot to do with the Buddhist concept of Zen.
The amount of forces and concentration is surprising. I found my self holding my breath at times. For something that seems so soothing I was exhausted by the end of it.
As an artist like how the patterns look pretty complex but once broken down it’s just a bunch of geometric shapes all woven together to make something that looks artistic. It’s pretty cool I might take notes for my drawings. These would be good backgrounds for my character drawings lol. Plus it’ll fill up the white space behind them
Im convinced Ancient civilisations used the same instruments on a large scale to create the foundations of many of our wonders of the world. Amazing stuff
Hm. I'm an art historian and I would not quite put it that way. There are a couple ancient civilizations who had a strong interest in simple geometry, but there's a lot of complexity and unsettling imagery in ancient civilizations too. Personally, I wouldn't generalize about them. But you're picking up on something else, ancient civilizations often had fairly advanced understanding of my mathematics and designed tools accordingly. That said, I don't want to rob Japanese civilization of taking full credit for the aesthetics of what you see here. It really is theirs.
Was watching the thumbnail preview and the sound of the sand moving was super relaxing. Then I realized the preview had a sound option and it was muted and my brain was just filling in the blank. Most shocking thing is that the sound I heard and what was in the video was so close to being the same.
I got sad at seeing the last one be erased. It's like realizing your favorite class or a massage is coming to an end, lol. My sleep schedule is on the verge of being backwards as I'm searching for new employment and so I'm going to go rewatch the other videos to help me relax and sleep so that I don't become a complete night owl (it's past midnight right now for me). Thank you for another great video!
There is just something immensely satisfying about watching these designs coming into being and all it really takes is sand, a stick and patient practice.
The bracelet, the ring, the fitted sleeve, the south facing shadow, the perfectly cropped border, the color tones of the sand, the gong keeping rhythm and tension in the viewer - there’s an aesthetic talent here; an understanding of balance and that goes far beyond sand work and hand control. You might have chosen to draw patterns in sand but people like you create excellence in any craft they put their mind to, be that pottery and ceramics, painting, furniture, gardens or architecture. Easiest sub of my life. Thank you.
When I lie down before bed, this sound is the last I always hear; a scratching noise inside my head! Now I finally know what they're doing up there!!! Thanks;)
1) all things begin and end, but what takes place in between is where meaning unfolds 2) everything returns to the source 3) in the very center is perfect stillness
For the first shape, I was like, “wait… the radius makes up a perfect hexagon in a circle??” Then I remembered equilateral triangles… “duh!” So cool! I’m sure my high school geometry class used this principle for one of the proofs related to circles, trig, etc. but it’s been a while 😅
Reminds me of the monks who will spend months to years on art projects simply to tear them apart and/or burn them to remove material attachments. Neat. 10/10.
Mesmerizing and beautiful! It is not by chance however that hexagons are formed, they are the symmetry of the universe and can be seen in the stars and in all natural phenomena. The fabric of the universe is woven in 3 6 9 and 12 as hinted to by minds such as Tesla as well as the ancient mythologys and religions.
This is probably one of the most calming videos I've seen on TH-cam. Put Boards of Canada music behind this and it will be more perfect than it already is.
after a devastating long study session I just thought of watching youtube video to chill a bit.then I got this recommendation and now after watching this i feel so much refreshed.its really satisfying. Now im feeling really productive and motivated. to start my next selfstudy session.it really helped to start work again
I really enjoy your longer videos, thank you so much for this one. They are mesmerizing and calming. Your movements are very skillfully executed. If you don't mind, go a little slower even.
Arm/hand control is on machine level. Stunning detail and the outcome of each design

beauty lies in simplicity
Something to do with polar coordinates?
I’ll let you in on a secret. This is how crop circles are made. It’s not the aliens. 🤯😒

You never know
As someone who had trouble making circles using compass, this video is really amazing.
@Ag21 He was talking about a mathematical compass, not a morally depriving compass
@Ag21 Well, that was inappropriate.
@@GooserMan what the guy say arsehole?

Same! Everytime I try to draw circles with my compass I end up with a half-done spiral and a hole on my paper

This felt spirituallly healing in some way... Also the sand makes the perfect sound, it's like it scratches my brain
The amount of forces and concentration is surprising. I found my self holding my breath at times. For something that seems so soothing I was exhausted by the end of it.
Same here. Kind of stressful.
I could be watching these videos all day long... I love the way you work with the tools and the patterns. Keep doing it mate, we will be right here!
So relaxing, I need 3 hours of this.
@Ag21 just felt the need to say that? Huh?

Wow I could watch this all day that person's hand is so steady it's almost hypnotizing that is amazing I actually like watching this video. Awsome!!
This brings a sense of contentment to me. Soothing and lovely to watch.
Nice job that can be healing thank you for sharing 👏 a little hand movement at the end crule moment the pinky ring must of been a little heavy 👌

Incredible precise hand movement!
You should definitely post 10-12-16 hour compilations of these if you aren’t already. An amazing thing to listen to whole day

This is oddly mesmerizing. I love it, thanks.
Your control is incredible
that erasing at the end frickin enlightened my senses
Thank you. The last one felt like a representation of time.
3:35 How you placed the line is so smart and helpful... This is the real carry of the pattern.
There's something very pleasing and relaxing about this. Great for my OCD XD
Truly beautiful; reminds one of cropcircle algorithms. Thank you .
So graceful and precise.

yeah the radius makes hexagons, that's what I always remembered whenever I felt like making a hexagon
Predicting the next route makes me concentrate
That was incredibly satisfying
Best way to visualize geometry so far, would love to see it in 4 and 5D
Being a bit silly but this is kinda 4D. Then if you had a cubic sandscape evolving over time you could call it 5D :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this clip, thank you :)
The patterns are interesting and all, but what really amazes me is the hand.
