A truer statement might be ‘powerful people can only focus on attaining and retaining power, as Kurzgesagt has stated; voters eventually show politicians how to get power, to support the greener tech’
The current political landscape won’t allow for a candidate to emerge that is invested in using science to better the future. Our democracy has collectively regressed at the absolute worst time.
I work in the concrete repair industry in the DC metro area and one of the things that DC has implemented is a requirement that 50% of all concrete waste from demolition is recycled. At first we thought this was going to be a huge financial impact but it turned out to be cheaper to recycle rather than send it as trash. Now we recycle more than our minimum because it’s cheaper to do so. Incentivizing really does work! Edit: I forgot to clarify, DC subsidizes the recycling of concrete to incentivize companies to use the service more than required and is part of the reason why it ended up being cheaper.
Nice! I like reading about positive changes, and things like this is exactly what the video ment. And if it works, it will spread to other cities and countries.
@@RadicalJack1 He JUST SAID that it was a REQUIREMENT that 50% is recycled. A REQUIREMENT is not the same as an INCENTIVE. One is an OPTION, the other is NOT. How stupid are you?
I am from India and almost nobody among our politicians talk/discuss about climate change. The masses are also largely unaware about this serious issue and even the so-called 'educated' people (like those in my college) couldn't care less. Heck, I myself have never given it so much thought until very recently. This has to change, we have to save our planet 😔😑 the only thing which seems I can do is make others around me aware about this and possible mitigation measures...so the ordinary people can vote better politicians in power. Thanks, Kurzgesagt for this really informative video !!
Watch the doc An Incovenient Truth. Your leaders said 'You use coal, so can we' and our industries bought the government. The planet will be fine; people will be extinct, though.
Yes totally agree, from India too. I am listening to Acharya Prashant's lectures and his activism in this field is unmatchable as far as India is concerned.he has asked for 3 main things that every human Being on the planet should do: 1.Reduce carbon footprint by changing lifestyle esp. Celebrities and the Rich people 2. One Child Policy or being child free esp. India! 3.Going Vegan / Cutting down heavily on animal products consumption.
compared to other countries(Mostly western) we see that india is doing much better in this situation, especially with the solar panels. I am from kerala and from what i noticed the green forest occupation has gone up , ive seen noticeable difference in other states too with their solar panels and electric cars i, a lot of climate activists in our country blame the population but they arent actually that major of a factor even though they are one because as previously explained in this video the rich consume and produce more greenhouse gases than the poor which take the majority le me also remind that our country has more poor and only 1 percent "rich".
@@henabedi your points have a lot of plot holes which let me explain, even tho with ur first point is true the rich put out more carbon footprint that the half of india we as a people dont expect them to live in such a way. They are celebrities because of us until we dont change the outlook they wont either. on your 2nd point is where theres a massive mistake and a problem and from this i would recommend you stop watching Acharyas content because that is plain stupidity and he clearly dose'nt know what he's talking about because THE ONE CHILD POLICY was one of the worst policy to ever mark history because of its damaging effect in china. In any country what they need is more youth and the one child policy heaviyl cut down the number of youth, it is said that chinas youth will decrease rapidly over the coming years since people are refusing to have kids and they will have a lot of old people which is bad. India is actually way better even with the population cuz we are said to have a larger number of youth and keep the numbers atleast for the coming hundred years. so now you know! :)(also meat is very necessary for protein and most of us dont even eat factory processed but from our local butcher)
@@Serenity90621 No one has asked for your lame & illogical recommendations. At least I don't need them. I WILL Carry On listening to Acharya Prashant' s work. How can there be serenity within you when you consume the bodies of animals for "protein" ! Please educate yourself.
Also, be cautious about companies that pretend to be climate friendly, like Apple. They say that they care about the environment, but at the same time they're fighting to remove the right to repair your stuff (not just tech, but everything). This leads to a HUGE waste of resources.
They also moved all their manufacturing to China to dodge all the pesky regulations. But no, totally listen to the "greater good" people who want you to give up everything while they live by a different set of rules.

As someone from a developing country - thanks for raising awareness on this (specifically the emissions vs poverty debate). It's nice to know that the narrative on climate change is starting to include our sentiments.
Yeah, it's not poorer working peoples fault, they should not be sterilised, and their elderly and disabled should not be killed to "save the planet", that is disgusting malthusian "over population" degrowth nonsense
i feel this has always been the MAIN talking point brought up when climate change is mentioned, it hardly needed "raising awareness" the US, China, and India are always brought up as rising due to factories and "but what about them!"
Don't keep your hopes up humanity will start caring about climate change when people will be dying here and there on first world countries, humanity will pay soon but will be aware to care when the rich who own those companies start getting hurt themselves
Wdym rasing awareness. People are already aware of this at least in the countries where they can at least vote. But they dont have any choosing option. Every single politician only cares about their fking pockets. They just select the option which fills their pocket more but at the same time not damaging the image of their's too much and totally ignore about the environment. If they continue like this these kinds of people wont be able to get elected cuz there will be no need for that cuz of the lack of a government cuz there will be envronment to live in
I learned something new in this video: The reason governments subsidize fuel is to lower transport costs. That's a huge thing I've never really thought about before, given that I did know that every single industry relies on a global network of shipping in order to source supplies.

Kurgz talked about the personal responsibility bit but I think it wasnt framed properly. If we all stopped producing emissions, that means we all stop consuming emission creating products. If we stopped consuming emission creating products, then companies no longer sell emission creating products. If companies no longer sell emission creating products, then companies no longer produce emission creating products. If companies no longer produce emission creating products, then companies no longer produce emissions.

Currently, I'm studying car design and am contemplating doing a final year project that explores the idea of using bamboo as car body panels and extruded aluminium and 3D printing for chassis production. I'll spare the details but basically, smaller factory floors, lower production emissions and more sustainable cars on top of the switch to electric. I don't know if the tech will ever take off but this is my contribution, at the very least, get a conversation going.
That sound amazing! Do you happen to still have the project? I am studying journalism and also working on some projects meant to address sustainable alternatives in different industries
@@breft3416 Disagree, car design would make more of an impact because like it or not, there will be way more cars on the road. People want their freedom. So even a tiny improvement on car emissions will reduce way more pollution than a huge improvement on trains and busses.
yeah, if you think about it in a place like california that tried to implement regulations towards climate change and stuff like that ended up loosing population that migrated to texas, and several other states just because the cost of life was increasing a lot and taxes were very high. so you cant just "impose regulations" or "promote green energy" without fucking up the population (or at least for now). i really want a solution for the way of "you emmit, you pay" in a global scale that increases over time and makes contaminating industries no loger profitable in all of the world.
9:58 Yes, shifting responsibility to us the consumer was the dirtiest trick the oil companies ever played on us! Selling a product then divorcing them selves from the environmental impact of it and refusing to create solutions for the problem with all of the money that they made because it will lower their profits is just PURE GREED!
But still, we're indirectly and collectively responsible. In the end, companies build products for us to consume. Cars, oil, transport, meat, houses... That's the problem, that we can't stop emissions right now without vastly changing our lifestyles.

Eventually I realized I’m neither a politician or social savant, but I do love fish and I know how important they will be both as an ecological force and as a nutrient rich protein source. I cannot make a change by driving myself mad saving one more gram of CO2, but I can join and innovate in a growing industry essential to creating a cushion around the effects of climate change. Focus is essential, and community is essential to fostering the group mindset to keep positive change in place.
but that is where the problem lays.. we won't care about that tree because we will not benefit from that tree.. especially with the economic weather of today and social media influence
As someone who does Environmental Studies at University, this is the most honest, informative and inspiring video I've ever seen on the issue of climate change!
Something that I feel like isn't addressed when talking about agriculture and reducing emissions is that 1/3 of the food we produce simply isn't eaten because we think it looks weird or buy too much food. I know that simply reducing food wasn't won't solve everything, but reducing food waste both reduces the emissions to produce food and gets git of pollution from that food decomposing at landfills.
Also today’s agriculture relies on feed which is not good for the environment to produce. Grass fed animals are very beneficial tho since grass traps insane amounts of carbo from the atmosphere. More than what the cows fart since it’s a feedback loop. Cow farts turn into trapped carbon in grass then the cows eat the grass and fart it back out but not all grass is eated so there’s more carbon trapped then is taken out of the soil. Natural food for cows produces better quality meat too
It also doesn't really address the major elephant in the room: Mono-crop agriculture is just as destructive if not more so than factory farming. So not even the vegans can hold their heads high.
What do you mean it isn't much? We need every bit of possible way to solve the issue. But of course, the vegans are heroes in their own minds, so we can't tell them about this.
@@NathanCassidy721 exactly, since my country has more than half its population in agriculture, we knew early on about crop rotation, intercropping and multiple cropping. Sadly, it isn't enough to feed the world's second largest populated country.
Here in austria there is a app where you can upload your leftovers and people who are in need can come and pick it up! But since corona that also lost a bit of population... I hope other countries can try things like these too!
But electric cars allow people to enjoy the lifestyle they have come to expect while still cutting down on harmful emissions. It's actually a win win, but it's not the total solution.
@@Anuchan yeah, that's the problem, we all love the convenience of everyday life, stuff we're allowed waste but we cannot support it. Lol just because the climate shifts does not mean life on this planet is just going to die out. This planet is in a constant state of change, this ball of rock we live on used to be covered head to toe in molten lava and has been dealt numerous extinction level events, yet this planet still thrives. Climates change regardless of human intervention. We will either be long dead as a species or have moved on to inhabit many worlds by the time we doom this planet. It will be quite some time before we will even have the ability to destroy this planet.
Not only it helps a little, but it helps raise awareness, promote good habits, send the right signals to markets... I think there are a lot of good secondary consequences to individual lifestyle changes, as long as we know they are insufficient and don't get too fanatic about them.

Good luck during winter with heating your home. While we suffer we will see the rich fly their airplanes around and eat beef. I'm for more tree, more solar power, become less reliant on fossils fuels, but the people in power will love to watch us live like cave man while they fly their fancy airplanes and expensive vehicles everywhere. @@tonyt2663 This is so true, but not all rich/upper middle class people what this to happen! It is only the uber rich celebs and the billionaires who are working towards this 😔
And yet climate change isn't. The dinosaurs were around for close to two hundred million years. They were clearly fine with global mean temperatures 10°C higher than today (CO2 levels were 3-4 times higher back then). Burning ALL the fossil fuels in the ground would raise current temperatures by roughly 10°C. If the dinos can survive it, I'm confident we can too. And we have air conditioning.

I have to admit, the last time you guys talk about climate change you didin't touch the topic of the "carbon footprint TM" and I admit I was kind of pissed about. All the propaganda (because it was) about the topic in 2019-2022 focused on how the change was responsibility of the individual and honestly, I was tired of it, unable to bring myself to the idea that somehow we as individuals had that ammount of power in the matter and angry about the tale that developed countries had about the issue. Why we, a developing country in the prime, should worry to fix a problem the great powers are telling us to do, when the enriched themselves by the same behavior they are telling us to stop? F*** Thunsberg! we are dying from starvation! we have no time for your 1st world problems!... that was my entire opinion. we never had seen an Electric vehicle in our entire lives, because nobody here has the money to buy it. Now I see with more clarity, and this video made me realize, OK, maybe I can contribute, not because its somehow my responsibility but because I can actually do a little part, and that could be enough. Asking for better policies, and voting for better people in the country, but also buy less bottle watter, and truning of lights. And probably, we are not doomed as species, as I used to think

In other words you fell for stupid graphics. I hate these info-graphic'y presentations because they are still appeals to emotion - the "comfort food" of analytics. The image is more important than truth. Rapid Climate Change is a meta problem. For instance, electric cars are promoted as an unchallenged solution in this video, where the are distinctly not. So even this video is incredibly (literally) flawed. There are several good points, but remember, Bill Gates has lost his mind. The best, valiant attempt at boiling RCC, here, is seriously even seriously flawed. I like that the video introduces realistic, disturbing dissonance. The situation is nuanced. I thumbs-upped the video.
I remember seeing an ad from Chevron saying “We’re planning on going zero carbon in 2050. What are you doing to help the planet?” I just couldn’t help but think that it’s going to take Chevron another 30 years to become neutral carbon, but no, I’m not doing enough to keep the planet healthy.
This video was supported by Bill Gate’s money and “personal blog.” A man with billions who at the end of 2019 still had $100 million invested in oil stocks. This channel is not supporting climate action. They support the billionaires pretending to care.
Most videos that focus on environmental issues only deliver fragmentary and superficial messages such as 'Let’s use tumblers and stop using gasoline!' without addressing the actual dangers and severity of climate change. However, this video stands out as it has a clear purpose and meaningfully discusses the critical issue of climate change.
I know my comment will go unnoticed but I really appreciate this video, and how well it is structured and explained. Balancing personal responsability while pointing out how big companies use it to blind people from the big picture and advertise 'green' products was GREAT to see. I deeply care about climate change and this actually made me tear up.
Me too. I read about the "personal responsibility" scam quite some time ago, but with the weight of Kurzgesagt's exemplary messaging behind it, there's a real chance that more people will see through the scam now.
I saw your comment..!!! Dont worry too much - there are also tipping points that go in the GOOD direction as well as the bad - so we might not be as screwed as people think - but don't tell anyone cos if we mention that people will stop doing stuff and then we WILL be screwed...!!!
If you ever heard of the term “Litterbug”, it’s from companies like Coke a Cola switching from glass bottles (that they would collect clean and re use *expensive*) to plastic one use bottles. This caused a lot more trash and because of how light they were they would go everywhere from wind. So coke decided to shift the blame to consumers for the added trash saying we just didn’t do enough, when in reality there was a much better solution that they discarded (glass is also more easily recycled)

It's not. They claim voting has an impact. It does not. I dont care if you're in Europe, the US or China voting does not do anything. The only honest take on climate change is either a revolution against the global elites or let the global elites sterilize us on a massive scale.
Well in the US, voting does matter in local elections. The "powers that be" don’t really interfere in local elections. So voting for comptrollers, mayors, and local judges do work. As we all saw in 2020, voting in general elections do fuck all. And yeah, I do agree that a full blown revolution would remove the people most responsible for our current system but millions upon millions would die, defeating the purpose of fighting climate change for humanities sake. Unless of course you think that humans should go extinct. To that, I'd nothing to say...
I don't think the youtube algorithm shows this to the people who most need to see this. It only shows what you're already interested in, keeping you in the same frame of mind. It seems that the trouble with vote with your ballet/wallet is that individuals don’t necessarily have the knowledge or resource to truly understand the targets of their local/federal governments. If Government behaviour and objectives were more clearly conveyed to public citizens, I think we would see a clear shift in party agendas as the public would be able to more easily vote in favour of addressing sustainability. It seems that most people typically vote based on 3 things: - Candidate character - Party values - Previous voting choice If people were provided with clear information regarding their voting options, these three decision making factors would become insignificant.
14:10 I love the design off that car, just add a tire on the back then it would look like that De-Vil car from 1961 although only in the back not the front. I also call it the Philip Mercury⚡️car.
Finally a video that does more than "Let's just all do some-thing right now, not sure what or what it's impact will be but at least we'll alleviate guilt with placebo".
This video lays out very well how enormously impossible of a task it is to stop climate change Greed itself fundamentally gets in the way, on so many levels So, we’re going to have to deal with it, some areas of the earth will become essentially uninhabitable, other areas will in the long run become much more habitable, and we will as a species be forced to adapt to these massive disruptions It’s going to be ugly, but it’s the truth of what’s going to happen over the next several decades/few centuries
This the reason I love this channel, it doesn't just repeat of mantra of "just follow """""science""""" bro" like a cult member. I've heard so many first world citizens say to cut back, easy for them when they've already established themselves in a comfortable lifestyle but the reality for the majority of people is different. We can't afford solar panels, changing our energy production on a whim, we can't stop using cheap products at anytime because we simply don't have the resources to do so.
also the vegans were called out in this video, those of us who are not financially sound cannot afford to live and eat a lifestyle of zero emissions. I like the fact about if you were to live zero emission for 70 years, you would only be saving 1 SECOND. Vegans need to stop degrading a single person and collectively come together with people who would if sustainability was the affordable option.
Current generation tech solar panels generate more ambient heat than electricity, wind power turbines are inefficient and catch fire, electric car batteries use rare earth metals, and, thanks Ashley M. people can not eat vegan year round without cross hemisphere importation of fresh food. But all these ideas make plenty of corporate profits. We need new ideas.
Solar panels are all too, since we have a friend who installs them and our government subsides them we got solar panels for like $1K which we can save after about a year and a half but then there's also the battery, the battery you need so that you can actually keep the power you make costs about 7K , since we don't have the battery we generate power during the day and have to sell the power we don't use during the day to back to the grid
I'm generally a cynic and my confidence in our likelihood of dealing with climate change is not different. unlike in other instances I sincerely hope I'm wrong and I'm grossly underestimating our species ability to come together.
The U.S. has a budget deficit of 300 billion dollars this year and our total debt will be 50 Trillion in 2025, the American dollar will collapse as we will have to default on our debt or risk hyperinflation since the world revolves around the mighty dollar it will be a calamity the likes of which the world has never seen. @@Ultimime Actually we are, it literally is inescapable. I wish it wasn't as I was going to retire in 2026 and start a goat or crawdad farm but five years ago I was given a link to what the Federal debt was going to be in ten years in 2025 and realized America simply can't pay back that amount of money. I am honestly not sure if America will exist in 2030 perhaps a few states in the heartland will cling to the American idea(mostly debtor states) but I think some biggies will want to leave with Florida, Texas, California , Oregon and a few of the most important states joining them Florida, California, Texas and California will heavily impact Americas GDP. What the world will do when the American Police force is not there to keep the world safe is something that is quite scary and does not favor Canada at all.
The first something was when globalist thought the world was going to end in the 2000s the second one is right now and still no accurate dates about when and what will change
Glad to see this video address the fallacy of "it's YOUR responsibility to reduce YOUR carbon footprint" *as if that were enough*. The corporate guilt trip propoganda came on strong in the mid 2000s and I remember it clearly. Edit: emphasis for the illiterate
Their solution sounds like fascism to me. "You can have a business, but only if it complies with these state demands!". Government cant create or innovate, it can only tax and destroy.
But the political guilt trip is still there, "you have to do something or we are all gonna die" except its actually impossible for human effort to stop the solar particle forcing that actually causes climate change. This plays perfectly into the hands of the greedy and corrupt scheming politicians, who want you to live like trash and serve them while they rule the whole world with an iron fist.
@@trevorh6438 Its impossible to stop the sun rays with the technology of the near future but we can already stop the particles trapping the sun energy in the athmosphere.
not a shocker. have never tried to change my lifestyle for climate change bc i knew it would have little to no effect. i’ve always been interested in the science for a long time but have always known that it has to be up to big companies etc to make a change, we have the science technology but there’s still a lot more efforts especially as emissions increase as we try to make new technology. not a big hitter for me but maybe for some people, i always love kurzgesagt climate change videos
But it implies that voting brings radical change, when it doesn't. Political activism is needed desperately and it's disappointing that they just casually skipped over everything outside of the political system's framework. How dumb is it to walk into extinction because you are clinging on to a concept of civility. Militancy is completely warranted at this point.
The technological and financial wherewithal is already existence to make a thorough shift globally, within 40 to 50 years, from fossil fuel power and energy sources to much more efficient and much more abundant renewable and nuclear power ones that emit zero greenhouse gas emissions. Concurrently within 40 to 50 years fossil fuel vehicles can be completely replaced globally by hydrogen and electric ones, which will give no secondary and indirect greenhouse gas emissions since they will be connected to power generation sources that produce no GHGs. Furthermore, having a non fossil fuel energy and power infrastructure, due to the great abundance and efficiency of the fuel sources will enormously bring down the costs related to sequestering of the emissions and effluents of factories, meaning that all factories will not release GHGs into the ambient atmosphere. These and other things means that it is possible to not only reduce the rate of global warming, but also even reverse the negative effects of climate change.
Oh yeah, keep voting for the same two parties and throw your money at "something" that makes the world greener. Very helpful video indeed. What do i invest in? Thorium reactors? Fusion? hyperloops? Green walls? And do i vote for old senile guy number one or old senile guy number two? This video wasn´t helpful at all at anything other than giving a little insight into why green development happens so slowly, but most people know that already, what we need is ideas and solutions.
The last bit was the most impactful and important statement to me. "Everybody will be unhappy about some aspect". Many people think that industrial policies and green tech growth is something that will eventually be done without affecting their lives. People need to realize that showing support for these changes means accepting a temporary price hike or other inconveniences during the transition. Also, I agree that investing in green tech sounds like by far the best answer to "what can you do?" Really great eye-opening vid with lots of takes that people rarely think about.
This is why nothing will ever happen, because people expect Green technology to run smoothly. Tbh I am one of them, I want green tech, but I do not expect price hikes in the process. If we invest it should feel effortless
Yeah. Make it seem like a problem so large that there can no personal responsibility, and requires massive government empowerment to do anything. Government that's totally on your side. This could never go wrong. You would never lose power after empowering the government. No other party will ever use your methods against you.
@@SangoProductions213 so I don’t know if you just stopped watching after they mentioned like what governments can do but they went on a pretty good chunk on what YOU can do. So, if no singular grain of dirt stops a pile from being, then the dirt is clearly not an integral part of the pile.... of dirt. To add on to the issues with aviation, as an aircraft mechanic it's been so frustrating hearing how unrealistic some of the proposed solutions are. People are touting electric planes, but battery-based planes will never replace long-haul flights. Their energy density (mass to energy ratio) simply isn't high enough. Jet-A, the kerosene based fuel used in aircraft, has an energy density of 42.8 MJ/kg. What's the energy density of the most energy dense battery, Li-ion? 0.972 MJ/kg. An aircraft can store more than 40x as much energy using Jet-A compared to even the most energy-dense batteries. "Massless" (structural) batteries could help, but only to a certain point. The more mass you load into a plane, the less passengers/cargo you can carry, or the bigger the plane will need to be. You not only need to carry enough energy to carry the plane, but also enough energy to carry THAT energy. Right now, even if we replaced the entire mass of passengers, cargo, and fuel on an aircraft with batteries, it still wouldn't have close to the range a kerosene-based aircraft of comparable size, cost, and payload. I do think electric aircraft are going to replace short to medium-haul flights, possibly some long-haul flights by making multiple stops. But oceanic flights can't exactly pull over to recharge halfway through, and while it's entirely possible to create trans-oceanic electric airliners, you just cannot make them with the same payload mass and/or production cost. Fuel efficiency isn't a solution either. Airliners are already designed to be as fuel efficient as humanly possible, because fuel is expensive. Winglets? Reduced drag, thus fuel efficiency. Composites? Reduced mass, thus fuel efficiency. High-bypass turbofans? Increased airflow without an appreciable cost in fuel consumption, thus massive fuel efficiency. Getting airliners to be more fuel efficient is already the job of hundreds, if not thousands, of engineers. Algae-based biofuels are also tricky. While they are promising, will they be compatible with existing engines? Almost all of General Aviation still uses leaded Avgas, since the engines are designed to run on avgas. Most of GA was built before the 90s, so even if you start mandating aircraft be designed for biofuels, it will take decades for that to take effect. While they might be able to find the perfect biofuel that replaces 100LL with no issues, that seems unlikely, and until then, most of GA will still be running on 100LL avgas. Liquid hydrogen is also a solution I've seen, but this one has some serious safety concerns. You know the Hindenburg? Yeah, that thing was full of hydrogen, hence why it burned so well, and left so few survivors. Liquid hydrogen would require either extremely-high-pressure tanks that would explode if damaged, an insane amount of cooling equipment that would add significant mass to keep the hydrogen liquid, or, more likely, both. If an aircraft crashes with hydrogen fuel tanks, and the tanks get damaged, it's unlikely that anyone will survive. If hydrogen leaks during maintenance, that entire hangar, if not multiple hangars, would probably explode. Jet-A, while flammable, is very difficult to actually ignite (a cool party trick is that you can extinguish a cigarette in a cup of Jet-A). The same cannot be said of hydrogen, which even just the sparks from electronics could ignite. Sorry for the long comment, lol, it's just so frustrating when I see people suggest "easy" solutions for aviation that aren't nearly as easy as they think. Many of these are certainly possible, but they'd require serious tradeoffs in utility, costs, and/or safety of the aircraft. It's certainly going to get better, especially when electric aircraft take over the short-haul flights, but hydrocarbon-based fuels are going to be here for a while, until something with both comparable energy density and safety can be found.
The concept of airships is still prevalent to me despite the Hindenburg disaster (in the same way people shit on nuclear power because of Chernobyl or Fukushima despite it not representing the whole story). Rather than Hydrogen, the Hindenburg was actually designed to run off Helium, but wasn't able to due to US restrictions on helium export if I recall correctly. Is there anything preventing helium-based airships from transporting small-medium weight goods internationally (aside from the obvious ramifications of mid-transit leaks, slower transport, etc)?
@@Alaric323 Helium isn't cheap. It's normally used for industrial and science applications, such as MRI machines and welding. The Earth also has a finite amount, and if it gets lost in the atmosphere we can't get it back.

As someone who does Environmental Studies at University, this is the most honest, informative and inspiring video I've ever seen on the issue of climate change!
@@siljrath what lies?
Inspiring how ?
So tell us the % of CO2 in the atmosphere that's manmade, and just how much it will take to raise the temperature 2C.
I have the same degree myself.
I thought I might be able to do something about this global problem. Sadly I haven’t accomplished much on that front.
So basically, what you're saying is that we're screwed?
Natural food for cows produces better quality meat too
It also doesn't really address the major elephant in the room:
Mono-crop agriculture is just as destructive if not more so than factory farming.
Remember: electric cars aren't here to save the planet, they're here to save the car industry

Greed itself fundamentally gets in the way, on so many levels
So, we’re going to have to deal with it, some areas of the earth will become essentially uninhabitable, other areas will in the long run become much more habitable, and we will as a species be forced to adapt to these massive disruptions
It’s going to be ugly, but it’s the truth of what’s going to happen over the next several decades/few centuries
*cough* AOC *cough*
This the reason I love this channel, it doesn't just repeat of mantra of "just follow """""science""""" bro" like a cult member.
I've heard so many first world citizens say to cut back, easy for them when they've already established themselves in a comfortable lifestyle but the reality for the majority of people is different. We can't afford solar panels, changing our energy production on a whim, we can't stop using cheap products at anytime because we simply don't have the resources to do so.
But those of us who can get solar, use alternatives etc should use them to do our part
also the vegans were called out in this video, those of us who are not financially sound cannot afford to live and eat a lifestyle of zero emissions.
@@ashleym.7751 im diabetic and buying sugar zero stuff already kills the wallets. Then imagine it plus veganism...

But the political guilt trip is still there, "you have to do something or we are all gonna die" except its actually impossible for human effort to stop the solar particle forcing that actually causes climate change. not a shocker. have never tried to change my lifestyle for climate change bc i knew it would have little to no effect. i’ve always been interested in the science for a long time but have always known that it has to be up to big companies etc to make a change, we have the science technology but there’s still a lot more efforts especially as emissions increase as we try to make new technology. not a big hitter for me but maybe for some people, i always love kurzgesagt climate change videos
this has got to be BY FAR the most helpful video regarding climate change. very needed! thanks alot for this ♥
And very good quality video too!
Agreed

I really love how y’all made it more about the systemic issues which is such a great way to view this crisis. Thanks for the content.
Systemically doesn’t mean government. It means it’s an something that broadly effects a system. I also don’t know if you saw where they said no matter what one individual did no matter how dedicated they wouldn’t be able to do anything significant. It’s good to bring it out of an individual level as we all are apart of the system for the GLOBAL environment. It’s the same when people mention things like poverty or racism, etc. these are systems we have to look at together to be able to change them.
@Anvil All solutions require either a multinational entity with authority, or a war over co2 controls, if you look a realistic long-term timeline.

It's certainly going to get better, especially when electric aircraft take over the short-haul flights, but hydrocarbon-based fuels are going to be here for a while, until something with both comparable energy density and safety can be found.
jesus thats long, but a good perspective on things. thanks
