I have built some Fender bodies, a few kits, etc. but your video series has inspired me to try a Les Paul. Also looking forward to seeing the side marker dots and the finishing of them. Keep up the good work and thanks for the great techniques and sharing your knowledge!

    Hi Freddy, really great video and very informative! Just curious, but with the tap test you do at 23:57, do you find this translates in the final build to the harmonics and overtones that each individual guitar produces? Thanks

    • @FreddysFrets
      @FreddysFrets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I stated in the video, it's a good test to make sure everything is tight and solid...no truss rod rattle etc. But also you can glean some info about the density and weight of the wood by the higher pitched tones. This is really apparent when you're making more than one of the same design from the same material. The higher pitched one will likely be heavier, maybe more mineral content in the mahogany....that will generally translate to a guitar that's not as lively or honky in the midrange.

      @FreddysFrets  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@willdenham I'll be honest and say that if this is your first build you're probably better off using titebond. Yes I believe hide glue has some benefits, but really they may only come through when everything else in the build is at a very high level....basically, perfection. But if you really want to do hide glue, make sure your mating surfaces and perfect, use 192 gram strength glue, and work FAST. Good luck.

      And this one for the neck shaft: us.microplane.com/woodworking_en_us/hacksawblade-rigidrasp.html
      These can be held free hand or mounted in a hacksaw frame.
      I also have the snap in versions us.microplane.com/woodworking_en_us/snapin-8in-giftset.html but I don't use them as much because 1- they are shorter and 2- they clog up and you have to constantly unsnap the blade from the handle to clean it out.
