I really like this idea, as the lower self-defense capabilities of the pomson would allow spies to take down the engineer with their revolver, making spy/engineer interactions more interesting instead of just harder for the spy in every way
I have fond memories of locking down enemy sewers with a single pomson engineer. Ubers? Spies? The whole team rushing in as a pack? Helpless against my pomson spam. Removing projectile penetration killed it immediately, but I wasn't surprised when it happened. Still hurts though :(

This weapon has never made sense to me with it's gimmicky stats outside of 2 uses. 1. When this thing used to be a discount bison, it functioned like one, and was actually relatively good for the lazier or more chore-focused engineer. The damage was fairly good for what you could get at that range for Engi and what made it work was the piercing projectile, since Engi will more often be amidst or behind the majority of his team in most situations. 2. The cloak drain is a neat idea, I enjoy a weapon that makes Engi's job an easier one. It assists dealing with 1 specific nuisance to the class (like the southern hospitality) while being more different to other primaries. It being a projectile alone helps hit cloaked spies too.
I love how you can spot every aspect in this video used to extend it, from the unnecessarily long pauses to the random side tract rambles he goes on here and there.

For my personal rework of the pomson, I always thought it could be more like a shotgun, make it shoot three lasers at once, all dealing about 30 at max rampup(making it about 90 for a meatshot) and a small speed buff. I’d remove the Uber and cloak drain mechanic, and make falloff still applicable but take twice as long as it does now to come to max falloff.
Pompsons slow projectile speed could MAYBE potentially come in handy for suppressing a sniper position at long range, but that's oddly specific and not even focused on actually hitting the target more just for dissuade their focus on an area. Idk just a thought
My idea for a rework is that the projectile starts with lower damage, but it ramps up as it goes, to lets say 125%. When it has full damage it penetrates enemies and has a wider hitbox. To compensate for evey penetrated enemy damage is lowered, but uber/cloak drain does not. Add some more stats to balance and it could be useful and balances gun for turtling engies
Fun fact: in the ROBLOX tf2, typical colours 2, there’s a weapon for the scout(flanker) that’s inspired by the mule uuuuuuuhhhhhhhh, call the mule mauler, and it sucks to fight against!

Players do weird things in casual play - but if you see a player you can immediately tell 2-3 things if you have experience: 1. What class they are 2. What weapon they have equipped 3. What passive weapons they have, if any (like the gunboats for example). With this information, you can figure out the approximate amount of damage a particular class can deal to you, and plan accordingly even amongst the chaos of casual, random players. ... Except oh wait here's a sudden 3x damage bonus on the class that can deal up to 100 damage in a splash radius.
@@numbug1234 you're talking about things people would be thinking about in competitive. People go to casual to just goof around and play semi seriously. Sometimes depending on the match it can be serious but if you are doing complex damage equations and taking extreme detail to min/max sweat on casual, it's generally only going to be you. There are always exceptions of course and I personally think random Crit chance should be lowered on some weapons but should stay in casual.

The best way i found to play with pomson is battle engineer. I use the gunslinger for the 25 added hp and for the mini sentry and I use the stock pistol. Pistol for critically injured enemies and the pomson to either snipe on choke points or to use as anti-tank, and if they get too close... Gunslinger crit babeh! I usually do so on Turbine, putting my minit sentry in the vents with a dispenser blocking the vent that goes to the intel and meanwhile I go out and help my team push.

Ohhhh how dare you, that's mah favorite! it's strengths lie in spam and the fact it pisses of the enemy team much like the classic, they become that guy who died to the pomson and they get really tilted. So they then dedicate themselves to killing you so they will most likely go a projectile based class so you then bust out the short circuit and that's when it gets really fun ;D.
Honestly buffing the projectile speed and maybe loosening up on the damage penalty (and also fixing that stupid bug where your Allies will eat your shots) would be enough to make it atleast usable
I feel like it would be cool if the pomson was like a laser assault rifle for battle engie. It always seemed to me like it should be the battle engie equivalent of the Rescue Ranger, but it's just so bad that it basically doesn't work.
Instead of being a medic counter, the pompson could be a pretty neat spy counter if additionally to the pretty annoying cloak drain it made the spy flash in his original team colour to alert teammates to his presence, because currently even if YOU have figured out theres a spy among you, the other people will just carry on normally and even get in your way accidentally.
My idea for a pomson rework is to remove the cloak/uber drain, increase the speed, and to finally give an option similar to the Panic Attack's old gimmick where you load multiple rounds up to be fired in rapid succession. My idea is when the player holds down the right click, it effectively plays the reload animation as the engineer charges up this burst attack, pulling rounds out of the pomson's clip. You could visually show it in the UI by having a bar of your team color go over the white bar representing the pomson's clip, showing how many rounds you've got ready to unleash. I'd imagine the drawback of using this burst fire is a large drop in accuracy when firing the burst, maybe to a similar level to the Beggar's Bazooka of 5% cone of fire. It'd be a lot bigger of an issue for the Pomson's projectiles, since they don't have splash damage, so this burst would only be viable at close range. If that's not enough of a drawback, make it so the gun can't be reloaded and the engineer can't switch weapons for a second or two after you drop the burst, from like the force of firing so much at once, leaving you a bit vulnerable. My dream scenario would add in new animations to telegraph the engineer having a max charge to the enemy. At its most basic, you could have it just make a glowing ball out at the end of your barrel. My most complicated idea would also involve all the little doodads of the gun and having them move about. There are the pistons mid way down that could start moving in and out, there's stuff coming out the top right after the trigger/handle that could start venting steam, all the little pressure gages could start going crazy in the red, the whole front end of the barrel could start spinning, and the whole gun could start shaking. If you do make it unable to reload for a few seconds, you could add something where it vents a lot of heat/pressure with maybe the engineer kinda fanning it down to help cool. It'd allow for long range sniping with single fire, but also the potential for close range burst damage after taking time to set up and making yourself vulnerable afterwards.
Honestly even if it was just fixing the bugs (the lower projectile and the piercing shots) The Pomson would be quite a lot better and would probably be more worth using. It'd be a chokey weapon and would actually be useable, random crits would decimate groups of players which would give it a better crowd control role than the rest of the shotguns and even the sentry, as that's still single-target, and the weapon would be less punishing for no reason.
And what makes my blood boil is that the TF2 team NEVER APOLOGIZED. No one of them was mature enough to publicly say in front of everyone "Sorry for making a weapon that sucks ass with a straw and not giving a shit about it".

There are the pistons mid way down that could start moving in and out, there's stuff coming out the top right after the trigger/handle that could start venting steam, all the little pressure gages could start going crazy in the red, the whole front end of the barrel could start spinning, and the whole gun could start shaking. If you do make it unable to reload for a few seconds, you could add something where it vents a lot of heat/pressure with maybe the engineer kinda fanning it down to help cool.
It'd allow for long range sniping with single fire, but also the potential for close range burst damage after taking time to set up and making yourself vulnerable afterwards.
Honestly even if it was just fixing the bugs (the lower projectile and the piercing shots) The Pomson would be quite a lot better and would probably be more worth using. It'd be a chokey weapon and would actually be useable, random crits would decimate groups of players which would give it a better crowd control role than the rest of the shotguns and even the sentry, as that's still single-target, and the weapon would be less punishing for no reason.

some guy in voice chat was using it to counter the whole enemy team of spys for the meme....i joined him and haven't unequipped it yet....
And what makes my blood boil is that the TF2 team NEVER APOLOGIZED. No one of them was mature enough to publicly say in front of everyone "Sorry for making a weapon that sucks ass with a straw and not giving a shit about it".
