She is happy, because she gets to keep her life, does not have to suffer on starvation, but imagine her life. She escaped at 15, had to go through a foster family when she was learning English. My aunt settled in NY and for the first 1 year of her life, she could not speak English and she could not hold a conversation with anyone other than her family. Evelyn must have gone through that phase. At times, I am sure she hopes to find out where her best friend from elementary school is, have that dish that she cannot find anywhere in the US, or use that spice specific go her locale. Also, everyone calls her only Evelyn. She no longer gets to use that cute Korean name that probably has a special meaning, because the people around her do not know how to pronounce.
I am happy that she is safe, but I hope that all the people of North Korea get their freedom.
