I have an embarrassing story related to this - before anyone comments it, yes I was an idiot, I was much younger when this took place! So quite a few years back, I had a major surgery and was in rehabilitation/physical therapy in an inpatient facility. I was also incredibly into the game Counter Strike: Global Offensive and was looking to join a team once I had the time. I was a total idiot and put that I was recovering from surgery on comments on my Steam profile back and forth with someone starting a team, and was of course completely shocked when, that very same day, someone started doing a “psychic reading” in a match where they were literally reading off my comments! It’s amazing how even someone like myself (I was already aware of how these readings work) was fooled simply because I had forgotten about the comments!
i like that magicians are still continuing the proud tradition of debunking fraudster psychics. Houdini pushed it hard and it's been carried far by the likes of James Randi, Penn and Teller, and channels like this.
I am very familiar with all these tricks and such, so I was skeptical when my wife wanted us to have a reading with someone she new of. Suffice to say, this woman ended up having SPOT ON information that doesn't exist in any corner of the internet about things my loved ones and I have shared. The only place they exist is in my memory, so when she grabbed those nuggets out of thin air I was legitimately impressed. I didn't get taken advantage of, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Which is always the importance of entertainment anyway.
Could have been pure luck. IF and I really mean IF somebody is able to read people in such a way, 100% they would be able to replicate it again and again and pass several tests, done in a controlled enviroment. It all comes down to science nothing more nothing less.
Really enjoyed that video, if enjoyed is the right word. My Great-Grandfather was an officer in WWI and spent half the war in a Turkish POW camp. He eventually escaped by feigning madness but, in the lead up to that, he figured out how to trick the entire camp, including the commandant, with a ouija board. He had an accomplice who had been a part-time magician before the war and figured out his routine, so the 2 of them scammed the camp's guards & commandant together and had them running all over the place looking for a made-up treasure. After the war, when he had returned to Britain, he discovered many people were visiting psychics hoping to speak with their relatives who they had lost on the Western Front - spiritualism was even BIGGER BUSINESS around 1920 than today! So my Great-Grandfather wrote his story in a book, explaining exactly how easy it was to trick people with a ouija board, in the hope it would prevent people being taken advantage of. I think he would have approved of this video, lol!

there's people that will look you in the eye and tell you with no hint of irony that the world is flat. takes all sorts of folks and usually these "mediums" are preying on vulnerable people looking for closure from loved ones, basically it's easy to fool people who want to be fooled.
I had an aunt called Janet who died recently, one of the three women who raised me - grandmother, mother and aunt. I have a small leprechaun on my keyring which she gave me, and I'm wearing pyjamas with a missing button. I have leg ulcers and scars from old ulcers on my left leg. So if I wasn't already aware of how cold-reading works, that initial cold-read could have been quite impressive, especially with a bit of follow-up probing.
If you haven't already, I recommend looking up a guy called Derren Brown. He's a British entertainer who uses showmanship, cold reading, and magic techniques in his shows. The best thing about him is that he explains everything he does. He makes it clear that he's using these techniques, but still manages to blow your mind. I think you, as a magician, would probably appreciate his work. He's also debunked all these "psychics" and demonstrated just how silly they really are.
If you watch one of his shows, he goes to the USA saying he us a psychic, when he comes clean, and says its all fake, they tell him he has "the gift" even if he won't accept it.

Their was a thing about 3 that resonated with me. Today I worked for a guy and he gave me a 21 sting harp because I said, “that looks cool” It has 3 octaves so your prediction was *DEAD ON*

i recall watching John Edward back in the early 2000's (i believe) on the syfy channel (sci-fi back in the good old days) i think at 11pm EST. anyway,.I though of myself as fairly intelligent back then in my 30's. I wasn't a Skeptic with a capitol 'S"'. I was a skeptic with a small 's'. I did believe that what i saw and heard him do was the real thing.. Then being a magic fan I was very excited to see a magician coming to the sci-fi channel that I had never heard of. Derren Brown had some excellent 1/2 hour programs. So good that it got me hunting down his Big stage performances. Then I saw him do several his "psychic ability" acts. John Edward that dirty emm effer owes me 86 hours of tv time back. c'mon son!
This is a very good and fair observation and near assessment of the examples used in the video that logic would win out over the cringe performances played out by the mediums, especially the more public open ones.Although I have heard some accounts of experiences that people have had with visits to some mediums that were very curious as to the specific description of circumstances that only the individual would relate to, or would know about, which makes it more difficult to dismiss as chance, the guessing work from the medium. However if you look at the fundamental suggestions by mediums such as M or J and living or dead , sicknesses that are high statistically, eg.cancer , road accidents etc . It is disgraceful that some mediums do it for the money as opposed to any rare talent that might exist out there with an ability to pick up on specific events personal to an individual. Vulnerability is an awful place to be and it forces people to clutch to straws, no matter what form those straws take, it is a bitter natural law of loss consequence. The parasites vultures rats and snakes that prey on the weak which I find the horror element of life is what sickens me. The fact that government tax officials impose death duties is a form of parasitic behaviour of state on assets of deceased people. The in laws and distant family appear to take their share too from the dead. It was better ancient Egyptians buried their dead with all the possessions out of respect until people decided otherwise. This topic can last a long time to discuss. Thanks for posting this video , it has helped me to refocus the injustices of liars cheats and cruel people including the institutions of state that dump on vulnerable people. If there is a God and Judgments Day , few will be acquitted as a result.

What troubles me most is how so many people want to believe and how they so readily ignore all the misses. We need to teach people how to question everything - especially the stuff we want to be true. I used to be into this nonsenses but watching Derren Brown's fake séance live on TV cured me.

Im a medium and i would consider these techniques as fishing or even social engineering. Its feeding and preying upon the weak and vulnerable.The most potent information i pick up on is usually involuntary and via my dreams. This is a great video, and these people need to be pointed out, especially in this day and age.

I dunno. I'm such a skeptic, and it annoys me so much that people actually go for this. I'm the kind of person who says, "prove it. You wanna read me? Tell me something even my best friend doesn't know." I remember I went to church with a friend of mine (I'm an atheist) who wanted me to see a "prophet." I didn't really want to, but I did it just to be nice. I sat in the back pew, reading a book for most of it, but ended up getting a "prophecy" anyway. It was the very definition of a cold reading. So general it could have applied to my dog. "You're not sure....you're searching, and you're skeptical about the existence of god" (gee, I'm reading a book during your prophecy, in the back row, and completely ignoring you...how did you ever guess?) I was just standing there thinking, "yeah, okay dude, whatever...can I get back to my book now?" Ugh. These people disgust me.
If they were really chatting to the spirits surely they'd just say the message to the person without having to ask all the questions. It would be like "hey, your son anon says he loves you and he was with you yesterday when you and dad visited his grave"

Welp, I needed to find the name for my 4-month old cockatiel, he has red cheeks, is the only survivor of a three siblings hood (other two were too weak), he loves chewing on t-shirts and is very attracted to my shiny rings. So... M or J... Guess Merry will do then.
I know he was just showing am example of a cold read and if I believed in this sort of thing I would have been astounded...my father, Jeffrey, recently passed away, had a scar on his knee from knee surgery, he had a red golf shirt that he wore that earned him a nickname and I sometimes wore his old wedding band. Even though it wasn't spot on I could see how someone, especially someone grieving, would grasp onto that. It is terrible that these people prey on grief.

All of them have speech patterns that make them sound like auctioneers. "Is there a J, J, M, how about an M? Kathy, Katherine? Kate? Do I hear a Kate? Lady in the pink. Going once, do you understand? Going twice, is there a person in you life who has died? Going three times, do you know anyone who has ever died? Sold!"
they have to keep things rapid fire, you can't give folks time to stop and count your misses you need to fish for a hit quickly so you can focus in on it. As we saw with the last guy if you find yourself floundering for too long the audience starts to turn a bit as it becomes clear you're just talking crap.
For those interested in Truth: I'm sure you've wondered if Heaven/Hell are real. This world seems so curropt sometimes, it's as if justice is a lie, and the bad are more often rewarded. I know it can be hard to accept that God is real, especially when it seems like all evidence points in the opposite direction. You'll never find physical evidence, no scientist is going to prove God, our universe isn't set up that way. However, there actually is a way to find him for yourself. God has given me four simple steps, via divine revelation, he's told me anyone who does them genuinely is gureenteed a revelation of their own. As it turns out these steps are scattered throughout the Bible, but for so many it's only a paper weight, so they never find them, and never get their personal revelation. These steps are the mustard seed of Faith God wants to see from us. The bare minimum amount of effort he's willing to accept before he reveals himself. God steamlined these steps for me to spread, because we're at the end. Nigh was decades ago. These steps are the absolute lowest he's willing to accept, and also the order is very important. They are, forgive your parents, brake down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. Three books of the bible will be enough to get the revelation at step four. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. To be forgiven we must forgive. It's all over the Bible, both new, and old. Jesus teaches this lesson himself via parable in Mathew, but if you're not willing to search for that lesson, just read Mathew 6 14-15. We're supposed to forgive everyone, but because God knows that's hard, he makes the bare minimum forgiving your parents, because they've fed, clothed, housed, raised, loved you to some degree, and should be the easiest to forgive. Forgiveness is a huge step, and it trips up most people. Churches barley even bother to teach it's importance. Even though the Bible makes it extremely clear you cannot be saved until you do. Everyone has issues with their parents, it is for this reason, so you have someone easy to forgive. It can be harder if you have horrible parents, but just try, God will notice your efforts. This step coming first is extremely important, it basically primes your soul, gets God's attention. The order is like baking a cake. If you bake unmixed eggs, and flour, no cake. Since you can't be forgiven until you forgive, most people mess this up. Thinking falsely that asking for forgiveness is enough. It is not. The next biggest trip up is one of the worst in my opinion, actually reading the Bible for yourself. It is a necessity. God uses the time you spend reading to show you who he is, and give you important signs. Church is not enough. It's really only for community, and helping each other anyway. The denomination does not matter at all, as long as you're following what's written yourself. Although Catholics have a unique problem, in the fact that the church promotes the worship/prayer to saints. This is idolatry. The only way to the Father is though Jesus Christ. Saint Paul may have been a good person, but praying to him will lead you to Hell. I can state with absolute certainty that these steps work every time, when done with a genuine heart. It's not hard, just mean the steps when you do them. Testing God only makes him hide himself. Please, take your salvation seriously. Once you've done these four steps, God reveals himself. It won't be anything you can miss, nor misinterpretae, not signs, not feelings, but an actual one on one conversation with God. He gives you so many secrets then. Along with all the proof you'll ever need. Faith is the path to God, but once you've found him his existence should be knowledge. Faith is still extremely important, but more so in trusting his plan. Please, do these steps for yourself. Each must walk his own journey. Nobody else can get you into Heaven. I'm so serious. It's all real. See for yourself..
You know, I sometimes think Deceitful Spirits might exist. They might actually be trolling these psychics because they know they are not living in the spirit of truth. These psychics use their gifts to enrich themselves and so have earned the distain of the spirit world.

I’m never able to find the words to express the pure, seething rage and contempt I feel towards the frauds who profit from the grieving and most vulnerable. I remember a case roughly 15 to 20 years ago where a “psychic” called Sylvia Browne absolutely devastated the mother of a kidnapping victim by telling her (on national TV) “she’s not alive, honey,” “she’s in water” and described “seeing” her blood-stained clothing. Now, it had been more than a year and a half since her disappearance-similar cases and historical precedence meant the likelihood she would be found alive were _very_ slim-so a fraud like Browne would have felt on pretty safe ground making such a statement. The mother died shortly after of heart failure likely brought on from grief. Her daughter was found alive several years later. For me, these frauds are just unforgivable. There are no words to describe them.
If it makes you feel better, my ex used to work for a major airline in the San Francisco Bay Area. And guess what, Sylvia Browne was a passenger on a flight, and she had gotten stuck in traffic. Entitled as she was, she had her son call the airline and tell them to hold the plane for her since she was delayed by traffic. My ex told the son that nobody is entitled to having the plane held for them. In anger, the son asked him "do you know who my mother is??" My ex said "yes I do, and if she were a real psychic, she should have predicted the traffic jam and left home earlier."
I listened to her bomb live on the radio (coast2Coast AM) with George Noory when they had the Sago Mine disaster. I was skeptical but wanted to believe in this stuff but that was the last straw.

I'm just realizing I don't have a parent, grandparent, sibling, 1st cousin, aunt or uncle who has a name that starts with m or J. And my mom has 6 siblings lol.
With audience as large as Chris's it's pretty much a statistic inevitability to get a hit or a few hits on at least someone. And even if you don't hit every time, people tend to have some sort of a confirmation bias and ignore the misses after you get a hit.
I chuckled at the Catholic one. The larger the audience the more likelihood of there being at least one Catholic considering there are a huge number of Catholics in the older generations. It would be like if someone walked into a room full of 10,000 Asian people. At least one is bound to be Bhuddist. It's the same way if you walk into a huge room in Mexico at least one Mexican will be Catholic. The stuff these people put out is basic common sense, no more or less. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out honestly. But those who go to these people are so desperate and that is why they go, for "reassurance" to hear what their itching ears want to hear. It is honestly sad they prey off people. It is better for people to work through their problems, but some choose to listen to a pied piper's flute instead.
The FIRST thing he mentioned (the letter 'M') got me hooked. I was thinking about my mom who passed away several years back and her name started with an M. The crazy part is that the subsequent statements did not really apply to me, but since his first supposition was "correct," I can see how easy it would be for me to believe him if he were claiming to be an actual psychic.
When I die, I’m totally going to haunt a psychic and only ever tell them my first initial and bleed the information out as slowly as possible, seems like the best way to get information across to a loved one that I’m desperately trying to contact

Thank you for doing this. I’m a small town magician, primarily a mentalism act. I have, many times, had to persuade friends from going to physics or mediums and explain that they are paying for an over priced magic show that preys on the weak. Hope this reaches a lot of people
Once you've watched "The Mentalist", you understand the basic premise. The extras on the DVD from the first season include a lot of footage regarding this! 😉

That's the truth of it for many anymore. I have a friend whose father died and my friend never went to his funeral or shed one tear. When asked my friend always responds their father and mother were biological, but never genuine parents and abusive. So it makes sense. I hear a lot of times from people who have no loved ones. I think some just tolerate people and that is the summary of their "relationship".
If psychics are real, why do you have to make an appointment? If I blindly show up at their place and they say, "Hi Jim, I've been expecting you", I'd believe anything they said after that!

Unless there is an entrance camera which is recognizing your face and immediately can search your data in public social networks. In China specifically they do it all the time.

Some people don’t realise why they are good at this cold reading and start to believe they really have special powers... and even events like this one fail to bring them to their senses.
I think it's because hot reading is too close to what news anchor's do. A news anchor could set up fake stuff on their profiles just to trap them. They are playing the news anchor's game when they are hot reading. It is also the first thing the news person suspects because they also google peoples information before an interview. While cold reading is more of a magician thing and a news person isn't going to understand it.

Or do you think they talk at home (in private only) like they know it’s all a sham??? So is that the answer? That maybe some “psychics” realize they are unproven shysters but don’t care and maybe others think they’re really “touched” (idk) and possibly convince themselves AND close loved ones? The best way to catch them out when they are trying to give you a reading is to not talk back to them, don't nod your head yes or shake no, just say ok when ever they say something. You will find out they will soon run out of things to say then blame it on the spirits on the other side thats reluctant to communicate that certain day.
It really angers me when these so-called “psychics” manipulate vulnerable, trusting people into believing they can communicate with their deceased loved ones. If I did the deceitful, heinous things that these “psychics “ do on a daily basis I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.

Well that's because he could only show half of the process. "Cold" is that he's throwing generic/random information at the mark. "Reading" is for reading their reaction (hence slowly moving into warm territory). -- Obviously, on youtube with no mark, it leads nowhere.

Also I remember how Randi was savage with psychics, I still remember how he recorded one and read the long list of well over 20 names that the Psychic managed to sneak into the conversation, the interesting part was that the victim thought the psychic tried 2 or 3 names only.
Yes , I saw that . It was 37 names and the so called psychic managed to hit on 9 names . Lord with that many names to choose from , bound to hit a few ud think jst like what happened there.
The best part of that was the recipient of the reading wanted to believe it and tried arguing back. Randi was just like 'it's all in the transcript' and just tossed it at him

Yes there is one that did and is continuing to do this to my sister. Her son (my nephew), died in a car accident and this psychic is telling her dumb stuff all the time, she cut us all off because of the crap they told her.

I have an embarrassing story related to this - before anyone comments it, yes I was an idiot, I was much younger when this took place! So quite a few years back, I had a major surgery and was in rehabilitation/physical therapy in an inpatient facility. I was also incredibly into the game Counter Strike: Global Offensive and was looking to join a team once I had the time. I was a total idiot and put that I was recovering from surgery on comments on my Steam profile back and forth with someone starting a team, and was of course completely shocked when, that very same day, someone started doing a “psychic reading” in a match where they were literally reading off my comments! It’s amazing how even someone like myself (I was already aware of how these readings work) was fooled simply because I had forgotten about the comments!

I am very familiar with all these tricks and such, so I was skeptical when my wife wanted us to have a reading with someone she new of. Suffice to say, this woman ended up having SPOT ON information that doesn't exist in any corner of the internet about things my loved ones and I have shared. The only place they exist is in my memory, so when she grabbed those nuggets out of thin air I was legitimately impressed. I didn't get taken advantage of, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Which is always the importance of entertainment anyway.
Could have been pure luck. IF and I really mean IF somebody is able to read people in such a way, 100% they would be able to replicate it again and again and pass several tests, done in a controlled enviroment. It all comes down to science nothing more nothing less.

He eventually escaped by feigning madness but, in the lead up to that, he figured out how to trick the entire camp, including the commandant, with a ouija board. He had an accomplice who had been a part-time magician before the war and figured out his routine, so the 2 of them scammed the camp's guards & commandant together and had them running all over the place looking for a made-up treasure. After the war, when he had returned to Britain, he discovered many people were visiting psychics hoping to speak with their relatives who they had lost on the Western Front - spiritualism was even BIGGER BUSINESS around 1920 than today! So my Great-Grandfather wrote his story in a book, explaining exactly how easy it was to trick people with a ouija board, in the hope it would prevent people being taken advantage of. I think he would have approved of this video, lol!

I had an aunt called Janet who died recently, one of the three women who raised me - grandmother, mother and aunt. I have a small leprechaun on my keyring which she gave me, and I'm wearing pyjamas with a missing button. I have leg ulcers and scars from old ulcers on my left leg. So if I wasn't already aware of how cold-reading works, that initial cold-read could have been quite impressive, especially with a bit of follow-up probing.
If you haven't already, I recommend looking up a guy called Derren Brown. He's a British entertainer who uses showmanship, cold reading, and magic techniques in his shows. The best thing about him is that he explains everything he does. He makes it clear that he's using these techniques, but still manages to blow your mind. I think you, as a magician, would probably appreciate his work.
He's also debunked all these "psychics" and demonstrated just how silly they really are.
If you watch one of his shows, he goes to the USA saying he us a psychic, when he comes clean, and says its all fake, they tell him he has "the gift" even if he won't accept it.

i recall watching John Edward back in the early 2000's (i believe) on the syfy channel (sci-fi back in the good old days) i think at 11pm EST. anyway,.I though of myself as fairly intelligent back then in my 30's. I wasn't a Skeptic with a capitol 'S"'. I was a skeptic with a small 's'. I did believe that what i saw and heard him do was the real thing.. Then being a magic fan I was very excited to see a magician coming to the sci-fi channel that I had never heard of. Derren Brown had some excellent 1/2 hour programs. So good that it got me hunting down his Big stage performances. Then I saw him do several his "psychic ability" acts. John Edward that dirty emm effer owes me 86 hours of tv time back. c'mon son!

This is a very good and fair observation and near assessment of the examples used in the video that logic would win out over the cringe performances played out by the mediums, especially the more public open ones.Although I have heard some accounts of experiences that people have had with visits to some mediums that were very curious as to the specific description of circumstances that only the individual would relate to, or would know about, which makes it more difficult to dismiss as chance, the guessing work from the medium. However if you look at the fundamental suggestions by mediums such as M or J and living or dead , sicknesses that are high statistically, eg.cancer , road accidents etc . It is disgraceful that some mediums do it for the money as opposed to any rare talent that might exist out there with an ability to pick up on specific events personal to an individual. Vulnerability is an awful place to be and it forces people to clutch to straws, no matter what form those straws take, it is a bitter natural law of loss consequence. The parasites vultures rats and snakes that prey on the weak which I find the horror element of life is what sickens me. The fact that government tax officials impose death duties is a form of parasitic behaviour of state on assets of deceased people. The in laws and distant family appear to take their share too from the dead. It was better ancient Egyptians buried their dead with all the possessions out of respect until people decided otherwise. This topic can last a long time to discuss. Thanks for posting this video , it has helped me to refocus the injustices of liars cheats and cruel people including the institutions of state that dump on vulnerable people. If there is a God and Judgments Day , few will be acquitted as a result.

I'm sure you've wondered if Heaven/Hell are real. This world seems so curropt sometimes, it's as if justice is a lie, and the bad are more often rewarded. I know it can be hard to accept that God is real, especially when it seems like all evidence points in the opposite direction. You'll never find physical evidence, no scientist is going to prove God, our universe isn't set up that way. However, there actually is a way to find him for yourself. God has given me four simple steps, via divine revelation, he's told me anyone who does them genuinely is gureenteed a revelation of their own. As it turns out these steps are scattered throughout the Bible, but for so many it's only a paper weight, so they never find them, and never get their personal revelation. These steps are the mustard seed of Faith God wants to see from us. The bare minimum amount of effort he's willing to accept before he reveals himself. God steamlined these steps for me to spread, because we're at the end. Nigh was decades ago. These steps are the absolute lowest he's willing to accept, and also the order is very important. They are, forgive your parents, brake down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. Three books of the bible will be enough to get the revelation at step four. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. To be forgiven we must forgive. It's all over the Bible, both new, and old. Jesus teaches this lesson himself via parable in Mathew, but if you're not willing to search for that lesson, just read Mathew 6 14-15. We're supposed to forgive everyone, but because God knows that's hard, he makes the bare minimum forgiving your parents, because they've fed, clothed, housed, raised, loved you to some degree, and should be the easiest to forgive. Forgiveness is a huge step, and it trips up most people. Churches barley even bother to teach it's importance. Even though the Bible makes it extremely clear you cannot be saved until you do. Everyone has issues with their parents, it is for this reason, so you have someone easy to forgive. It can be harder if you have horrible parents, but just try, God will notice your efforts. This step coming first is extremely important, it basically primes your soul, gets God's attention. The order is like baking a cake. If you bake unmixed eggs, and flour, no cake. Since you can't be forgiven until you forgive, most people mess this up. Thinking falsely that asking for forgiveness is enough. It is not. The next biggest trip up is one of the worst in my opinion, actually reading the Bible for yourself. It is a necessity. God uses the time you spend reading to show you who he is, and give you important signs. Church is not enough. It's really only for community, and helping each other anyway. The denomination does not matter at all, as long as you're following what's written yourself. Although Catholics have a unique problem, in the fact that the church promotes the worship/prayer to saints. This is idolatry. The only way to the Father is though Jesus Christ. Saint Paul may have been a good person, but praying to him will lead you to Hell. I can state with absolute certainty that these steps work every time, when done with a genuine heart. It's not hard, just mean the steps when you do them. Testing God only makes him hide himself. Please, take your salvation seriously. Once you've done these four steps, God reveals himself. It won't be anything you can miss, nor misinterpretae, not signs, not feelings, but an actual one on one conversation with God. He gives you so many secrets then. Along with all the proof you'll ever need. Faith is the path to God, but once you've found him his existence should be knowledge. Faith is still extremely important, but more so in trusting his plan. Please, do these steps for yourself. Each must walk his own journey. Nobody else can get you into Heaven. I'm so serious. It's all real. See for yourself..

I’m never able to find the words to express the pure, seething rage and contempt I feel towards the frauds who profit from the grieving and most vulnerable. I remember a case roughly 15 to 20 years ago where a “psychic” called Sylvia Browne absolutely devastated the mother of a kidnapping victim by telling her (on national TV) “she’s not alive, honey,” “she’s in water” and described “seeing” her blood-stained clothing. Now, it had been more than a year and a half since her disappearance-similar cases and historical precedence meant the likelihood she would be found alive were _very_ slim-so a fraud like Browne would have felt on pretty safe ground making such a statement. The mother died shortly after of heart failure likely brought on from grief. Her daughter was found alive several years later.
For me, these frauds are just unforgivable. There are no words to describe them.
If it makes you feel better, my ex used to work for a major airline in the San Francisco Bay Area. And guess what, Sylvia Browne was a passenger on a flight, and she had gotten stuck in traffic. Entitled as she was, she had her son call the airline and tell them to hold the plane for her since she was delayed by traffic. My ex told the son that nobody is entitled to having the plane held for them.
In anger, the son asked him "do you know who my mother is??" My ex said "yes I do, and if she were a real psychic, she should have predicted the traffic jam and left home earlier."

I'm just realizing I don't have a parent, grandparent, sibling, 1st cousin, aunt or uncle who has a name that starts with m or J. And my mom has 6 siblings lol.
With audience as large as Chris's it's pretty much a statistic inevitability to get a hit or a few hits on at least someone. And even if you don't hit every time, people tend to have some sort of a confirmation bias and ignore the misses after you get a hit.

Lol - my mother is named Margaret Mary and she's a former Catholic nun. The chances of someone with that name being Catholic is like 99.9%
I chuckled at the Catholic one. The larger the audience the more likelihood of there being at least one Catholic considering there are a huge number of Catholics in the older generations. It would be like if someone walked into a room full of 10,000 Asian people. At least one is bound to be Bhuddist. It's the same way if you walk into a huge room in Mexico at least one Mexican will be Catholic. The stuff these people put out is basic common sense, no more or less. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out honestly.
But those who go to these people are so desperate and that is why they go, for "reassurance" to hear what their itching ears want to hear.
It is honestly sad they prey off people. It is better for people to work through their problems, but some choose to listen to a pied piper's flute instead.

The FIRST thing he mentioned (the letter 'M') got me hooked. I was thinking about my mom who passed away several years back and her name started with an M. The crazy part is that the subsequent statements did not really apply to me, but since his first supposition was "correct," I can see how easy it would be for me to believe him if he were claiming to be an actual psychic.
That is why psychics prey on those who are in grief.
When I die, I’m totally going to haunt a psychic and only ever tell them my first initial and bleed the information out as slowly as possible, seems like the best way to get information across to a loved one that I’m desperately trying to contact

That's the truth of it for many anymore. I have a friend whose father died and my friend never went to his funeral or shed one tear. When asked my friend always responds their father and mother were biological, but never genuine parents and abusive. So it makes sense. I hear a lot of times from people who have no loved ones. I think some just tolerate people and that is the summary of their "relationship".

I think it's because hot reading is too close to what news anchor's do. A news anchor could set up fake stuff on their profiles just to trap them. They are playing the news anchor's game when they are hot reading. It is also the first thing the news person suspects because they also google peoples information before an interview. While cold reading is more of a magician thing and a news person isn't going to understand it.

The best way to catch them out when they are trying to give you a reading is to not talk back to them, don't nod your head yes or shake no, just say ok when ever they say something. You will find out they will soon run out of things to say then blame it on the spirits on the other side thats reluctant to communicate that certain day.
It really angers me when these so-called “psychics” manipulate vulnerable, trusting people into believing they can communicate with their deceased loved ones. If I did the deceitful, heinous things that these “psychics “ do on a daily basis I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
They should be in prison, honestly. They are simply predators, nothing more.

Also I remember how Randi was savage with psychics, I still remember how he recorded one and read the long list of well over 20 names that the Psychic managed to sneak into the conversation, the interesting part was that the victim thought the psychic tried 2 or 3 names only.

typically the last procedure a patient will have is a chest X-Ray, not because it's diagnostically useful just so it seems like something is being done. In our radiography department we called them passport photos because hospitals are like that. So psychics guessing "Something to do with the chest" is a very wide net
