On your 61 project, yes its the pats system and the transceiver i discovered is what it is called. The transceiver is square and has a circle that goes around the back of the switch that signals the PCM to allow it to crank. That system allows for that engine to start if its in neutral or park actually, but yes, that must have an electronic switch on the transmission for that. It can be done for sure because here at YT there are videos of people putting modular V8s in ford pickups in 61 all the way up to the 80s models.
