fantastic video as always, Elin! I'm about to start working on the engine of my spitfire and have been loving watching your videos and seeing the attention to detail you give to your restorations
I know Keith, but as needles are specific to the car, the jets are specific too. They need to match. So why would they put a jet in the kit, but no needle. Anyways, obviously I am wrong to expect to have the needle in the kit, I just don't get why... Are you my angel, Keith? I know I've done some good things in the past, but that's amazing. Even a book? I can't thank you enough!
Hi I think the kits are generic for that carb and the needles are specicic to engine and tune so they would need to have hundeds of kits , so thats why you need to uy the correct needles you need.
On the first carby you have the sticking needle did you try and centre the needle? When assembling an SU you have to test that the piston drops with a "clunk". If it doesn't, then you have to loosen off the bottom of the jet assembly and wiggle/rotate the jet around and tighten it up again. A few goes by trial and error, and eventually the piston drops with a clunk. Have a look at this video: th-cam.com/video/sxVFCY_1aSA/w-d-xo.html Also, I'm not sure whether the different size motors may have different size needles in them. If they do, then your carbys may now have miss matched needles. Something to check on.
Hey, Brian! No, the bent was so obvious that I didn't even try to make it work. And you are right, there are many different needles - size, step (taper)... So the chances to have same needle in the two carbs are very low. That is why I am ordering two needles and I will replace both. Thanks for the link!
THANK YOU . This really helped having never doing this before.
Engine rebuilds are one of my most favorite parts of a restoration.
Yeah, I enjoy them too!
Very nicely done and very well explained. Engine work is the best part of any restoration, I believe.
It is all fun, but yeah, I enjoy the engine work the most I think

Thanks, Karan. Good luck with your rebuild!
All these videos are great. I wanted to let you know that this part is not included in the restoration playlist.
Thank you. I will correct that!
Such a pleasure to watch mate!
Thanks Brendon! Your Poppy is getting together nicely too! Hope to see you on the road soon. Loved your doter's interview. She is amazing girl!
thanks mate, just ordered some more parts now. so wanting to get the car going.
I bet you won't forget to order the needles for the 1147 😎
I didn't forget for this one either, but I was expecting them to be in the kit. Why would they give you a jet with n o needle. They should be a pair!
Elin Yakov Many different cars use HS4 carbs. Needles are specific to the car. I have an SU book for you also.
