Farming VS Rain

  • We switched back to planting corn after spending a day doing soybeans. We're racing the rain and trying to get our last 200 acres in! This has been a rainy spring but the farm work never stops.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

This has been the most crazy spring I can remember in my 48 years. Winter dragging on 'til April, April showers coming a month late, flowers freezing, which means a serious hit to fruit crops, especially apples. My wife and I will be lucky if we can get our balcony bucket garden going before the end of June!

Another informative video. I like how you explain the process that you go through when planting. For us city slickers we see that there is more to farming than meets the eye. Thanks. Stay dry!!!!! Oh I also like your 'behind' the scenes action..... eating a long john, having lunch delivered, belching. You never bring a boring day on the farm.

Here in michigan we call our field cultivator a digger as well. We enjoy the videos and we watch them while we farm as well. We have 3500 acres and custom farm another 1500 to 2000 acres depending on the year and weather in our area. Nice video stay safe and farm on my friend! I'm watching this video again I'm starting to think about planting season it's only 7 to 8 weeks away .

Hey Zack....could you bolt a piece of steel on the green frame that is just above each track. The steel would stick straight out to the end of the tracks. Weld a piece at the end to make a T and have have a piece on each of the ends the would be close enough to the tracks to knock of residue but not touch the tracks? Not a farmer but a fan so it may sound ridiculous but just a thought.

I noticed you got to deal with the bomb cyclone, much like we did down here in my area of the country.
Needless to say, the flash flooding and the tornadoes haven't been enjoyable at all. Moreover, the weather was bad enough to close the school a family member works at here in Oklahoma on both days. Which from what I can recall is the first time they closed school for this type of weather outbreak.

The way you talk about how all the vehicles have to be synchronized reminds me of my studies of World War I and II. Grunts can't get too far ahead of mech which can't get too far ahead of fuel which can't get too far ahead of spare parts, and NO ONE can get too far ahead of food and warm clothes, (Winter is always right around the corner). Man, you REALLY ARE fighting a war. The logistics of farming is a major project EVERY YEAR! It'd be easier to over-sea a major highway or pipelne construction project!!
