No. The corries was a Scottish folk group. That's who I listened too. Well aware this is Irish folk music. This competes with the best the corries produced
It never ceases to amaze me all the comments on this video .....years later .....God Bless You Barney , You really were a Genius on the banjo ....and what a personality you had as well Thank You so Much .....Up The Dubs ! Hon Barney !
The one reason I started playing banjo, he has been a great idol on my playing. Always been my favourite musician. I hope you will find peace and everlasting rest on the fiddlers green. Rip Barney "Banjo" Mckenna. You will forever be in our minds.
Several years ago, just before the Dubliners retired from performing live, i was lucky enough to visit them back stage, when they were performing in llandudno in North Wales. I will never forget how hospitable and friendly they all were, and they willingly signed their autographs. What ever you think about their music, they were real gentlemen, and i am still a big admirer of their Irish Folk Music.
+Peter Lewis They are and always will be the best Irish Folk Band ever to exist and you sir were a very lucky man to see them live, and even most of them have all but gone they will still live on forever in our hearts.
+eejwelshtaff Several year's ago i used to work as a steward in the theatre in Llandudno, and the Dubliners were regular performers there. One year, after the concert had finished, i was allowed back stage to meet them all. They were winding down, sipping cups of tea and just relaxing before heading on their way. I only spent around ten minutes or so with them, but there was a real warmth given off in the room. Would you please sign my cd i asked, they all signed it, and were true gentleman, the kind you would not hesitate in inviting to any gathering. I also met the Stylistics some years ago as well, and they were on par with the Dubliners, charming and professional towards admiring fans.
I just find it incredible how Barney could play so fast yet his left hand looks as if it's not doing that much. And not a single wrong note. A true legend of the banjo. Eamonn had to really bust a gut to keep up with him, which of course he did as always.
@@gconthemic2502 4 out of 11 are still alive but very old. Seán Cannon is still going with the Dublin Legends band, John Sheahan is still active, recently released the tune, Flirting Fiddles. Though Paddy Reilly is retired and lives in America and not sure about Patsy Watchorn, I think he's retired too but still lives in Dublin
Barney was a genius on the banjo he could make it talk but eamon here also was a really fantastic guitar player. Credit to both men and may they rest in peace.
His fingers hardly seem to move and yet all these notes come cascading out.. What a legend. RIP Barney, banjo and mandolin players like me owe so much to you.
I can barely describe what these sounds are doing to me. Whenever I feel down, tired by what is going on around me or simply had a bad day, I listen to these tunes. It just touches something inside me and I get a comfortable feeling, that everything is going to be fine. Lots of love from Cologne, Germany.
Barney Mckenna, has now joined Luke, Ciaran and Ronnie for some "rare auld times " and glasses of Stout, along with the Clancys' and Tommy M, and so many more. Great songs, wonderful memories.RIP Boys
I was shocked when I read the message of Barneys death today. He was a great musician, and I am glad that I had the chance to see him live in concert. It's just a pity that I had this chance only once. Although your banjo may be silent now, your music will never be forgotten. Heaven must be a funnier place now with you, Luke, Ronnie and Ciaran reunited. Thank you, Barney. Rest in peace.
RIP Eamonn Cambell, had the pleasure of seeing him 2 years ago were he done this solo with another banjo player. it was very simular to this but what a player on the guitar too. all the legends together again having a guiness and a sing song no doubt
Barney, best specialist on banjo/ humor ever, if you ask me!!! Love the guy, thanks Barney and the Dubliners for years of great music and the joy you bring to the people!!!!
Dearest Barney...I canna think that it could get ony better than what you were God given..Jesu.....sure I hope I will meet you someday on Fiddlers Green....God Bless you Barney....
Nearly 60 years listening to these great entertainers and they are still the best. Barney still gets me up and dancing in spite of all the arthritic aches and pains.
Still mesmerised by this and I've watched it many times. Listen to it, go away, come back and it still surprises with something you didn't hear or spot before.
Really sad that Eamonn Campbell has died - he was incredible. Barney is my musical hero - both of them are legends. I really hope John Sheahan has at least another decade in him.

i remember a day in bremen, germany, it may've been september 1991. just debarked the ship in wilhelmshaven, after a 3-months-trip off to bahrain, doing the mine-sweeping after the gulf conflict. got a call from a friend of mine, about going to "the glocke" in bremen, to watch a dubliners' concert. after that, we went out for a few scoops, that all ended in peter finch's irish pub in the "schnoor" in bremen...we opened the door, and now guess, who was sitting at the bar? what a great night!!! I'll never forget one of them! those guys made me conscient, that i have irish roots. thank ya, barney, luke, ronnie, eamon, john, séan, ciarán, and patsy
the best banjo player ever, Barney is just Brilliant. i met him in Hamburg last year and what a night. we sat and chatted for ages. and the next day after breakfast. he never stops. loved it.

Tomorrow I'm going to their 50 years anniversary concert in Tilburg, a city in The Netherlands. Last time I have seen them, oth Barney and Ronnie were still there. Sadly enough I have never seen Jim perform. Though I will miss the sound of Barney playing the banjo and Ronnie's rough voice, this concert as allways will be a blast. RIP Barney and Ronnie.
Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight... Must leave us and the world we know without their radiant light. But we know that like a candle their lovely light will surely shine to brighten up another place more perfect... more divine. And in the realm of Heaven where they shine so warm and bright. Our loved ones live forevermore in God’s eternal light., may you play the Banjo beeing with HIM and that we al may here this heavenly music and the Angels that sing along ! LY Barney
I'm on an inspiration search for music for this animation I'm working on. It's about a grasshopper who ends up on stage at a fair, tunes his legs from cricket to violin and does a dance very "river dance" style to an Irish reel. I find this... mind has been blown and I'm so glad I found this!
RIP Barney McKenna, a gent, a musician and a bit of a joker, but a true exponent of the banjo. The Dubliners were very under-rated as musicians, but all the band could play, and I mean really play, and all were world class musicians, Barney among them. This man was a fisherman by trade and a musician by nature and the little world around Binn Eadair (Howth) is all the sadder for his passing. Not just for his music, but for his jolly nature, his love of his trade, and that rarest of things, a genuine smile and a wicked sense of humour --
It was a great privilage for me to have met Barney a great Irishman, incredible tenor banjo player and a true role mdel for Eire - we will all miss you - Add a Fada
Rest In Peace Barney. Getting tears in my eyes when listening and knowing that we'll never see you on stage again. Thank god i made it last year, when i said: I gotta see this concert, they might go away any day.. Well, i'm pleased to have followed your band for 30 years, it was a great honor to have met and talked to you even though we snuck in to do it. Thank you for your donation to history Barney, sleep tight.
